Looking for a place for 7 people from Canada and USA with good access to Edinburgh and close to family in Fife, we chose Hillview house for its 4 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, hoping that it would be as advertised. We were more than delighted when we arrived to find it with 4 lovely upstairs bedrooms, a lovely, sitting room, front dining room, rear solarium/ breakfast room, a lovely back yard set with an outside dining table, a terrific kitchen with a 6 burner range and all the cutlery, dishes and glasses we would ever need. It also has loads of space to put clothes, parking on the property for 4 or 5 vehicles, a functioning barbecue and a lovely rear yard.
The property was spotless and with an extremely helpful and consciencious owner living across the street, any info or help required was close at hand.
We were 18 minutes from Edinburgh Airport across the Forth Road Bridge by car and half an hour from the centre of Edinburgh by the very convenient every half hour train service and children travel free outside of rush hour. Edinburgh is too busy in August with the wonderful Festival for driving and parking so the train is perfect.
all our other sightseeing was north of the river, so after 5 minutes to get to the Motoorway , we were off. We visited St. Andrews, Gleneagles, Perth, Inverness, Loch Ness, Glencoe, Stirling, Glasgow, the East Neuk villages and Loch Lomond all on easy day trips from this terrific central location.
We would highly recommend thePitbauchlie House Hotel Restaurant, just a 4 minute walk along the street for an excellent meal. We had a family get-together dinner there for 25 people and were impressed greatly by the imaginative menu, excellent wine and drinks selection and the friendly, professional service we received.
As we had wonderful weather, we really enjoyed the lovely Scottish- Italian back yard, Obviously, a lot of time has been spent here creating a lovely, soothing space for guests.
For a family home-base near Edinburgh and handy for touring Scotland, I heartily recommend Hillview House and its owner, Tina.
