Firkin Barn was exceptionally good .had everything there in a beautiful setting. The place was spotless .we liked the fact it had 2 bathrooms one had a bath & the other a showers. Would have to have a car 🚗 as closest shop was to far to walk. A very pleasant stay with my husband and his parents.
The highlight of our time there was the full day out in Rye , having a meal in the formal dinning room at the Mermaid inn. Such a wonderful untouched place to visit. From Firkin barn it was easy to do many day trips as in Hastings ect .
But none of them came close to beautiful RYE.
The Bryer is a very comfortable cottage - the living space and wet room are very generously proportioned, and the sofa and armchairs are genuinely comfy to curl up on. The kitchen was well equipped (dishwasher, toaster, oven & hob, microwave, washing machine) and had plenty of pots and pans. But the best thing about it is the beautiful view across the fields and down to the river. There are chairs just outside the back door and another bench just a short walk away, which was the most lovely place to sit quietly admiring the landscape. A really relaxing and quite place to be.
My husband and I wanted to explore the some of the local sights (Rye, Dungeness, the various National Trust properties in the region - Scotney Castle is a must!) and the location of the cottage worked really well for our forays.
The road to actually get to the vineyard is a long and narrow track so might be hard work if you have a car that sits very low to the ground, and we did struggle to find the correct track when we first arrived, and actually ended up at another vineyard along the same road! Don't follow the brown vineyard signs along the road!
We received a friendly welcome from Neil and met the lovely (soppy) dogs when we arrived but didn't see anyone else for pretty much the entire time we were there, which was great! Our visit was slight marred by a party at a nearby property on our final night which played seriously loud music until around midnight, but that was really the only negative and I would assume it not to be a regular occurrence.
Overall, very good.
