Happy times on a hill top

5 of 5
After a long, wet Welsh winter a last minute get away was needed. We were extremely lucky to secure a week in Joan's cottage on her hill top (it's booked back to back all summer!). Unfortunately, the weather stretched as far as the eastern Algarve, and the rain followed us there. We did not use the pool or the barbeque, and even had to turn the heating on, but we didn't mind. We had a week filled with happy times. Joan is the most affable, gregarious hostess. The roast chicken and dips kept us fed for four days, and after a day of travelling it is most welcome not to have to go and find a supermarket. We spent our days sight seeing and enjoyed Olhao, Fuseta, Estoi, Santa Luzia, and Tavira. On rainy day 1 we visited Seville, which was a very easy drive across the border. On rainy day 2 we enjoyed the books and dvds on offer in the cottage and danced to loud music before we went sightseeing in the afternoon. The highlight of the boat trip through Parque Natural de Ria Formosa was the Cataplana lunch: seafood at its very best! Although we were there in April, and the season had not properly begun, it was clear that it can get busy on the beaches and having a hill top to withdraw to is very nice - away from the crowds. We enjoyed being in the cottage. It is well equipped, and the kitchen has every utensil you can think of. We had a very relaxing and happy time on Joan's hill top, and recommend that you find out for yourself why this is a magic, little place.

Casa Maxine 2015

5 of 5
As a family we visit every year, have done for 15 years now - sometimes 2 or 3 times each year. If you like rustic charm with modern amenities, being away from the madding crowd and with loads of safe space yet a short drive from the main towns this is the place for you. Maxine has a fabulous swimming pool complex, several indoor and outdoor dining areas, large gardens and a real rustic charm that all my family and friends we have taken there all love. The owners are now our friends, and your privacy is assured. It does get extremely hot in the peak months as the older style buildings do not have air con, but a few simple steps make this very easy to control. Fans are provided and during the late afternoon open all doors, rooflights and windows and close the Moroccan style curtains and turn the fans on to allow heat to leave via the roof and you will stay comfortable. During cooler months the pool can be heated, although is still comfortable, but from June to September no need at all. In the extensive grounds you can play football or badminton with the kids, and take pool toys, its a large pool and we play ball games in the water. The pool house is ideal for relaxing and there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. during the evening you can cook in the fully equipped kitchen, barbecue at the outside dining area with huge built in bbq or take a short drive to Moncarapacho where there are a couple of top quality well priced restaurants. During the day visit the nearby market town of Olhao with ancient streets, superb fruit and fish market and shopping mall and supermarkets. All in all for our needs it is perfect.
