Happy times on a hill top

5 of 5
After a long, wet Welsh winter a last minute get away was needed. We were extremely lucky to secure a week in Joan's cottage on her hill top (it's booked back to back all summer!). Unfortunately, the weather stretched as far as the eastern Algarve, and the rain followed us there. We did not use the pool or the barbeque, and even had to turn the heating on, but we didn't mind. We had a week filled with happy times. Joan is the most affable, gregarious hostess. The roast chicken and dips kept us fed for four days, and after a day of travelling it is most welcome not to have to go and find a supermarket. We spent our days sight seeing and enjoyed Olhao, Fuseta, Estoi, Santa Luzia, and Tavira. On rainy day 1 we visited Seville, which was a very easy drive across the border. On rainy day 2 we enjoyed the books and dvds on offer in the cottage and danced to loud music before we went sightseeing in the afternoon. The highlight of the boat trip through Parque Natural de Ria Formosa was the Cataplana lunch: seafood at its very best! Although we were there in April, and the season had not properly begun, it was clear that it can get busy on the beaches and having a hill top to withdraw to is very nice - away from the crowds. We enjoyed being in the cottage. It is well equipped, and the kitchen has every utensil you can think of. We had a very relaxing and happy time on Joan's hill top, and recommend that you find out for yourself why this is a magic, little place.
