A great rural family retreat for s sense of real Italy

5 of 5
We had a fantastic stay the house is really well equipped and beautifully renovated .We were three family's , the pool was an obvious hit but we had great fun cooking pizzas in the outside pizza oven and the covered sitting area works brilliantly with the location of the pool , house and lounges . The restaurant at the bottom of the hill to which you can walk to was perfect ,everything you want for an authentic Italian experience . The antipasta were delicious as was all the other rustic fare provided . The two villages nearby were great for a drink or pizza . There are plenty of walking trails and mountain bike routes and you can hire bikes in Appechio which has a useful tourist information centre which can sort out canyoning , climbing etc if you are feeling more adventurous . To us it felt like bygone holidays in France from years ago , rural and unspoilt but with a thriving local population .

Historic property with fantastic views

5 of 5
We spent 2 weeks in early September in Villa La Torre. The villa is near Abbadia di Naro about 6km out of Aqualagna. The directions were excellent and we found it without any problems, but I would not like to try finding it in the dark. The access road is steep and the last section is a white road with an uneven surface. We were welcomed by Sandro on our arrival, who showed us round and left a few groceries for us including bread and a bottle of local wine! As we got to the villa we saw the view for the first time and we were amazed. There is a view down the valley in both directions and out as far as just the very top of Monte Nerone (1500m). The villa had all the equipment we needed and more for our stay - whatever your ambitions for cooking, you will find what you need. There is a barbecue outside with a lot of small pieces of wood to use on it as well. The bed upstairs was very comfortable, we did not use the bedroom downstairs. There is a small en-suite shower room upstairs and a much bigger bathroom downstairs, both clean and properly equipped. Outside there are extensive gardens with several places to sit and a couple of tables to eat on. There were several comfortable sunloungers and we also used one of the comfortable hammocks. The pool is small but nice enough for a cooling dip on hot days and has the same fantastic views as the rest of the property. The wi-fi worked most of the time and was pretty quick. We didn't turn on the TV. The furniture is a mix of old and new - there is not a lot of storage space for clothes in the top bedroom but there is plenty elsewhere. There are several places of interest within easy reach (Urbino is a must; also Cagli, Urbania, Fossombrone, the Gola di Furlo, Fano, etc.) with the nearest supermarket on the edge of Aqualagna about 6-7 km away. Sandro made several suggestions for trips by e-mail and was very kind and helpful. There are maps and guide books in the property. What is good: this is an interesting property dating back to the 12th Century with everything you need for your stay. The views are fantastic and it is very quiet. There are very pleasant gardens and a small plunge pool. It was very clean with all the cleaning equipment supplied. What is not so good: Not suitable for people with mobility problems, lots of steep stairs. You need to drive to get anywhere including shopping for basics. That's it.
