Good, quiet location - the cottage was excellent, and the surrounding garden was beautiful.

The owners were welcoming; and the cottage is detached (but it needs an identification name plate on the gate as we were uncertain that we had found the right property), with only few other properties on the same road. The cottage is situated on a rise whereby the back veranda has a excellent view of the valley with the mountains in the distance acting as a spectacular back drop. The cottage is well appointed, has very good facilities, (a good cooker, large fridge freezer, a good washing machine, wireless connectivity, excellent air conditioning). It is completely private with no properties overlooking. It has two verandas, a small one at the back (to watch the sunrise) and the larger at the front (to watch the sunset). The cottage is well built - with stone floors and wooden beams. The main bedroom is a good size, although the second bedroom is on the mezzanine platform in the main lounge area. Because it is high up in the room space it isn't as cool, so our son preferred to sleep at floor level. There is a substantial BBQ area with oven and BBQ griddle. The owner tends the garden every morning but he isn't intrusive, and Maria (his wife) will cook you at least two delicious meals that are typical Cretan. There is abundant animal life - it has all sorts of exotic insect life, Cretan spiny mice, lizards (big and small), snakes (all types are harmless - Cretan legends will tell you why), beautiful birds (eagles, buzzards, swallows etc). If you don't like such animal life then Crete is not for you. There is a very small cove nearby that has a little beach of sand, and a fair amount of fish life and we saw two dice snakes that were hunting the fish. The cove is just over ten minutes walk from the cottage - you need to take the track that leads through the fields across from the cottage. The cove is deserted in the mornings but can get too crowded in the afternoons and weekends. To sum up - all members of our group really liked the place and we will probably return some time in the future.

Amazing!

5 of 5
We had the pleasure of staying in the Parrot House. If I would have to summarize my stay in just one word it would be just amazing. First off, the beauty of the house is far greater then what you see in the pictures. Very clean, neat, meticulous and just perfect. Very well decorated with exquisite taste, comfortable and peaceful. The backyard is just an oasis of colours with all the fruits, plants with a feel of being in a rainforest with all the parrots and fishes. The parrots were quiet in their cages, they do not live in the house if anyone is wondering. They were a pleasure to have around and just added to the beauty of it all. George, is by far the best host anyone can ask for. He is very courteous, kind and always there if you need anything. His sidekick, his beautiful daughter, was also there to greet us and recommended great beaches, places and restaurants to visit. It's very well located in Platanias close to a bakery, shops, restos, bars and supermarkets. 5 mins to the beach, 15 mins to the Old Town and right next to the highway. I highly recommend you stay here, you will not be disappointed on the contrary, you will be pleasantly surprised how special this house is and you will not want to leave. We will for sure be back next year. Vicky & Stefano Montreal, Quebec, Canada
