Quarré-les-Tombes Holiday Cottages (51)

Old building but comfortable, in a quiet very rural area. Very pleasant owners live nearby.

Warm cosy and comfortable property with 'character' and in a good location for visiting Vézelay and area. Renovated and modernised inside to a good standard, with pleasant outdoor seating areas. Bring your own teapot if you need one! A useful bread van comes 3 times a week with baguettes. Nearest village shops (in St Père) are about a 10 minute drive. Neither our 'school' French nor the owners' English was good so the booking process via the web site emails wasn't easy. The whole booking process (for this, and for another gîte) through the HomeAway web site was very clunky and tedious. I would not choose to book through HomeAway again. The owners are very pleasant and helpful despite our language difficulties. Electricity and the local tax are charged extra, as are bedding and towels if you don't bring your own.

Cosy surprise!

5 of 5
What a wonderful place this is! We keep coming back and everytime it feels like a warm bath, like our second home. The cottage is small, cute and very cosy. And it is amazing how complete it is furnished, everything one needs is there. The bed is big and very comfortable, placed on the mezzanine which makes it even more cosy. And the shower....I'm over 2meters tall and used to the fact that in most rentals I can not stand up straight. But in this little cottage the shower is definately high enough and even has a strong flow. In the private green garden next to the riverbank (small calm river), you can enjoy the shade or sun, listen to the birds and hunting fish...so relaxing an silent. The location is good, the environment is beautiful, for walks for instance. And at 10 minutes walking distance your are in the middle of the little village with nice restaurants. Or if you like to visit a nice city, Dijon is only 50 minutes driving. And last but not least, the owner Patricia, she is so nice and easy going, she takes care that you have everything you need. We will definately go back again. If you consider a stay at this cottage....do yourself a favor and book it!

Excellent holiday house with plenty to do

5 of 5
Franck and Sophie's farmhouse in Vic de Chassenay is delightful. We drove from London and it was very easy to get there. The farmhouse is very spacious, comfortable and well equipped: the kitchen was great and the billiard room was, of course, very popular. We had mixed weather but this was not a problem because the owners have also left a number of games to play, including table tennis with enough bats and balls for everyone. There are plenty of books in the French language which covered a wide range of subjects from Victor Hugo to local mushrooms. It’s easy to relax in the garden outside and the lounge area in the evenings. The neighbouring paddock is full of docile, grazing Charolais including a very large bull. We liked watching them close up from the garden. The pool is also large and well maintained. Vic de Chassenay is well located for Chateaux and vineyards alike. Alesia is an excellent attraction for all age ranges interested in Gallo-Roman relations and it provided good opportunities for our daughter to engage in workshops [in French with some English explanation]. The local village of Semur en Auxois is very handy for our shopping requirements. Chateau de Bussy Rabutin is an interesting site for lovers of French pre-Revolutionary history- worth a visit for the collecion of portraiture and witty and observant commentary on the court life of Louis XIV. We would love to return.
