Cute terrace house in main street of Garde Freinet

                                                          5 of 5
All the previous flattering reviews are still valid but it's time for a post-Brexit update. We stayed for all of August in this near perfect house in the centre of town. Well, the bedroom doors didn't always latch easily but I won't deduct a star for that - it's called value for money. The beds are very comfortable, the fridge, ovens and washing machine are just fine and you can dry things off on the terrace. Internet is fast and you can watch Team GB thrashing the French on the telly. Liz will arrange for Laetitia to meet you, show you where to park (more on this later), advise on the restaurants and beaches and will faire le ménage for a reasonable price - take it. All in all, the house has more than you need, plenty of character and locationx3, so go shopping and set off for the beach. Ours was Plage de Pampelonne, Murenes, Cap 21, which has a good restaurant, comfy sun beds, shades and excellent service. Yes, you'll pay for it but what do you expect just off St Tropez? If there are queues, your GPS will divert you onto a very bendy route instead and your wife will insist that you brake before each one, which is annoying but the drive is great - only watch out for idiots on your side of the road, whose massive wing-mirror can destroy yours in an instant...should you opt for all-risk insurance up-grade? Yes. La Feuille orientale restaurant up the street is well worth a visit if you like deliciously cooked cous-cous, and the next door pub: 'Jean's Tonic' (no, really) has talented musicians, an attentive landlord and good beer. La Presse, La Pharmacie and the post office are all staffed with affable folk, as is the best boulangèrie (the one with the massive queue), so you will soon know everyone in town! Even the local policeman, should you leave your car in the market square the evening before..Don't do that, as he will merely suggest that you go and get a cup of coffee,...no, he won't ask the stalls to move to let you out. Parking is much easier if you find a place down opposite the (très utile) Tourist office and stick to it. And if you are a good enough boules player to challenge the locals, do remember not to pack your match Obut's in your hand luggage at Nice Airport... Alors, Liz's house is all you'll ever want for a holiday in Provence but not next August please; it's booked!

                                                          Holiday home with everyting!

                                                          5 of 5
Arrived accompanied by the lovely Sandrine who showed us round this lovely house and promised to be on hand for any problems. The house 'wowed' us and totally lived up to our expectations in every way. It was homely and comfortable but very special in that wherever you looked there was some interesting object d'art or well placed shabby-chic item. The kitchen was the best equipped of any I have ever been in and this enabled us to prepare some lovely meals which we were able to eat on the terrace, lit by candles and huge Moroccan style lanterns. We were a party of two families with teenagers and the studio meant we could give them space to be messy without us having to see it! Gave extra fridge space also. The beds were good quality, if a tad firm, but the bed linen was of exceptional quality. Plenty of equally good quality towels in every room. We never once ran out of hot water with 10 of us showering every evening at much the same time. The house is on several levels which gave everyone an opportunity to find some quiet space to sit and chat or get some time out. The men particularly loved the boules area but they made a hasty retreat to the house as dusk settled and the rustling in the bushes suggested the wild boar wanted there time in the garden (they can't get into the main outdoor space of the house so perfectly safe, and we loved observing them from then side terrace vantage point). Super swimming pool which was maintained by Daz who did a great job. Useful knowledge of the area can be gleaned from him if you get up early enough. The village is 20 mins walk away. At first glance it seems like most others but after a week we were totally sold on it! Very very friendly locals and really quirky high class shops. Our girls bought some Grasse perfume from one shop for 8 euros and I wish I had its superb - many scents similar to popular brands, The restaurants were great but we couldn't get into one Le Carnot I think it was. It was full every night so it must be good. The Petite Fountain was good but we thought it was pricey. I really do recommend this property and the area, lots to do and I would suggest a guest book would be useful to highlight the various high points of the area for the other guests to enjoy. Our recommendations are; The Gorges du Verdon Gassin - Superb retaurants Chateau font du broc Grimaud - up on the hill

                                                          La Garde Freinet vacation

                                                          5 of 5
Everything went very smoothly with the landlord. You are just steps from the market on Sunday and Tuesday. Parking can be a little interesting on Sat and Mon night since market is the next day, takes away from the available parking spots. The house is perfect for what we needed. Had 3 adults, mom and dad on 2nd floor with their own full bathroom, I was on the 3rd floor, two double beds and full bathroom. On the terrace on 4th floor small kitchen and washer. Hadn't hung clothes on a clothes line since 1970's :-) But SO nice to have a washer. We had some electrical issues, but the electrician was there within minutes, got resolved, quickly, I believe landlord has fixed the core issue. Only negative I will have to say is the house is close to the dumpster, no smell issues, however at 5am they are dumping all the bottles from the pervious day/night and it does wake you up if your a light sleeper. All in all great location, 2 full bathrooms, great trip!
