Casa Colonica is a quite remarkable place to stay.
Photos can often be deceptive, but if anything they underplay the beauty of this place. The building is beautiful, with high vaulted ceilings, and the grounds are spacious & pleasant.
The host, Laura, is welcoming, caring, and always helpful.
(Her kindness is reflected in the review she made of me!)
It felt like I was staying with friends, rather than with a stranger.
Though you share the grounds with the family, it feels as if they are your own very peaceful space.
With my own vehicle, the additional security of being in a gated garden was reassuring, though to be honest Salento felt like one of the safest parts of Italy that I have ever witnessed.
The town of Lecce is beautiful, historic, contains excellent restaurants & cafes, and yet is as yet not swamped by tourism. The city centre is 30 minutes walk from here, or a short taxi/car ride.
I would thoroughly recommend Casa Colonica.
I learned that most visitors stay only 2 or 3 nights, but to be honest Lecce makes a good base for touring the peninsula, returning for the lovely evening atmosphere in the town. I stayed a month!
