Our hosts were so kind and welcoming, they put out some delicious pastries when we arrived, and made us a traditional Italian meal. The apartment is the perfect place for exploring the area, we went to Varenna, Como, Bellagio, Bergamo, Milan and Monza, and all were less than an hours’ drive away. Plus the Piani D’Erna cable car is only 10 minutes drive and worth doing. The apartment has its own garage with automatic opening door, so there were no parking worries. The apartment is a 3 minute walk from a delicious pastry shop (O sole mio), and a 10 minutes walk to a huge supermarket (Iperal), which also had free parking. The apartment is charming and well equipped, there was a modern kitchen with cooker, hob, microwave and large fridge freezer, and dishwasher. There was also an immaculate bathroom with a small washing machine. The beds were very comfortable, and there were 2 TVs with many Italian channels. The wifi in the apartment was excellent. There is also a small garden, stone BBQ and a covered dining table, which was lovely to sit outside and have some shade. For me, the best thing about this apartment is that it is part of a large grand Italian house, and although it is extremely modern inside, it felt like being part of the history of the town. Lecco is the perfect location to explore the area, and the town itself has a pretty lakefront and some good shops. This apartment exceeded all my expectations and I would like to say a big thank you to our wonderful hosts.
I have stayed in this flat before and chose to return because I loved the house and the town so much the first time. Arriving by the funicular (which is handily close by) feels like entering a different world. The owner is cheerful and helpful, and the flat is within a beautiful grand palazzo and yet has all the comforts of a homely place. It is great to be on the top floor overlooking the town and the hills beyond, and on what feels like a level with all the bells which sound morning and night. Bergamo offers so much, from art and history to beautiful landscape which is easily accessible by foot from town. Cobbled paths go all over the hillside and there is a wonderful outdoor bar on Via Virgilio with views for miles. There are some excellent places to eat - avoiding some of those right in the centre - but best of all we enjoyed eating in the flat which has a memorable little roof terrace. Should you want to, the bus and train services are a useful way to venture further afield though we have always found plenty to do in Bergamo itself and have been loathe to leave it. It is a special place.
