  • Nice little flat in nice little village
    5 of 5

The flat felt fairly spacious and was spotlessly clean. The kitchen/dining area was large enough for several people to use at the same time and had everything that you need to cook a proper meal. The lounge area was perfectly adequate but, as I often find in holiday properties, none of the chairs or sofas had good lumbar support so I had to rig up a couple of cushions. The mattresses were reasonably firm. It was cold overnight (in March) and we found that the single duvet supplied was sometimes not enough, so we borrowed the ones from the twin-bedded room. With the shutters closed, the blackout in the bedrooms was good. The rainhead shower had good power but got a bit tepid by the time the last person used it. The heating worked well. The owner was friendly and extremely quick to respond to messages. Lauris is a proper small Provencal village that still has a life outside the tourist season. We loved walking around the historic part and admiring the view over the Durance valley from the castle terraced gardens. The deli had lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, some of them organic, plus local wines and conserves. We also went to the Panier du Moulin organic shop a few kilometers away in Puyvert, which stocked everything you would expect in a health food shop, so we never needed to go to the supermarket. Lots of other attractive villages in the surrounding area to explore: Lourmarin, Vaugines, Cucuron, La Roque d'Antheron. We also did a couple of walks in the forest at Merindol and up on the Luberon ridge near Bonnieux. One day we drove to the nearest park-n-ride and took a bus into Aix centre, which was very good value and dead easy. The nearby restaurants were very good; we particularly enjoyed MatCha in Cucuron and Le P'tit Resto in Vaugines, both run by husband-and-wife teams, with the wife in the kitchen. However, we found Lou Pebre d'Ai, the restaurant in the village and only a stone's throw away, no more than average, although the service was friendly.

This is a great property, centrally located in a pleasant village with excellent local shops and a picturesque old quarter. The accomodation was well equipped with good bedding and a pleasant outdoor area. Patricia was very helpful and made us feel very welcome.
