We booked the property for my wife's 70th birthday celebration. We invited all the extended family - brothers, nieces, nephews, children and grandchildren and this was the perfect size for us all. Had a sit down meal for 23 on one day, then we were joined by some more guests invited just for the day for a larger party and BBQ.
The layout of the property is great for this sort of celebration, two kitchens, BBQ, indoor seat, out door seating for lots of people, swimming pool, jacuzzi, table tennis, pool table room, table football, darts, badminton net, football goal, plenty of space for everybody and plenty for all to do.
When we arrived we were greeted by Timo who was very helpful throughout the stay with suggestions of things to do and came every other day to check on the pool, jacuzzi, feed the fish and see if anything else needed sorting out (mainly rubbish removal from all the partying).
We were very very lucky with the weather - bright , sunny and warm every day - with the configuration of the property you are in your own private world and could have been anywhere but you have Waitrose, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Lidl etc., nice pubs and restaurants all nearby - and Ringwood brewery where you can buy ale in bulk :-).
We saw previous comments about plastic glasses so took some but there were plenty of really nice quality wine glasses and beer mugs - so they obviously responded to the previous guest's comments.
The property was originally a cottage and a barn, which were joined by accommodation on one side and a wall on the other to form a courtyard which houses the pool. The cottage being solid wall and thatch block the road noise and all the other facilities are at the back so very peaceful. The courtyard is also sheltered from any wind.
We, and all our guests, thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thatch Cottage and would highly recommend it. Timo, Susanna and Steven were also great. The communication beforehand helped greatly with our planning of rooms etc. and Timo was on hand from when we arrived.
We did consider holding this celebration in France but were glad we did it here, much more convenient for our family and guests from London area, Scotland and Canada..
I would have no hesitation in staying again.
Faultless. The only downside was that we had to keep our small dog on a long lead as he kept chasing the wildlife into the grass at the back. However we loved the garden which was secluded and had lovely views. We often didn’t go out, just to sit in the garden and enjoy it and also the hot tub which was amazing. The cabin was clean and very comfortable and my wife and I had a wonderful peaceful break. Just what we wanted.
