What a lovely and relaxing stay we had at Chez Raz. We felt immediately at home in the comfortable house, despite a delayed journey from the UK, and Paola and Paul made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. Ample living and bedroom space in the house and a substantial amount of outdoor space too - a peaceful garden full of fruit trees (the vines were laden with delicious grapes). Great sized pool for our 12-year-old to enjoy and lots of beds and seats for us 4 grown-ups to relax in too. Loved the outdoor kitchen, great idea for those sultry warm evenings and hot days. Spent lots of time fussing over the collection of cats and Snoopy the dog, as well as playing table tennis, table football and lots of board games.
Velletri is in a lovely part of Italy, with easy access to lots of places - we only managed a day trip to Rome - and wonderful food and people. We did experience the worst summer weather for around 25 years - quite amazing thunderstorms - and would have liked a little less rain but it did bring respite from the otherwise fierce sun.
We hope to come back as Chez Raz is such a home from home and we'd like to spend more time in the area. Highly recommended!
We enjoyed a week in August exploring Rome with our two teenage children. There is so much to do and see, we were spoiled for choice. We spent two days in Rome and opted to get the train and metro which was really easy. The train station in La Giustiniana is only a 5 minute drive from the house and the centre of Rome only a 25 minute train ride. A family ticket for the train and metro all day was only €12. A car is essential and on the other days we visited a lake, beach and the port at Ostia. The house has a great pool and it was very welcoming returning from a days sightseeing for a cool dip.
The accomodation is a self contained annex as part of a larger house. The house is fantastic and the annex is very private and extremely well equipped and spacious. The owners were really welcoming and helpful providing useful recommendations for the best places to visit and eat out and even a few tips on the best local wines.
Overall, this is a great place to stay and explore Rome and its surroundings. A very peaceful location and perfectly placed to see the city and also enjoy quieter days by the lakes or on the beach. There is tennis nearby and plenty of golf courses which if we'd been there longer I would have squeezed in a round or two. We will definitely stay again if we return to Rome.
