Hard to achieve perfection but this villa gets pretty close. The inside was spacious, well equipped, and all to a high standard. The pool area and garden was beautiful and hard to drag yourself away from to explore the surroundings. Plenty of shade or sunshine to be had. The outdoor eating area was great with a large BBQ and a bread/pizza oven. The views across to the nearby mountains were stunning. It was a very short and pleasant walk into Melodoni along a quiet lane. Melodoni itself was charming, relaxed and the inhabitants very friendly - restaurants, ice cream and mini supermarkets to be found here. 20 minutes away are lovely beaches and in much less than an hour you can be in Rethynmon or high up in the Psiloritis Mountains. Antonia’s parents were always on hand to respond very quickly to any enquires/issues we had. They were charming and they maintain the property immaculately. The meals and cake provided by them during the week were delicious! Perfection would be much closer with a few more mugs for our morning tea and coffee...... Many thanks to Antonia and her family and Valia for our wonderful, too short a week, on the amazing island of Crete. We hope we are still welcome to return should this sad Brexit thing actually happen!!!

  • Fantastic views away from it all

We stayed in the middle villa for 2 weeks and were very impressed. The villa is quite isolated - Rethmyno is a fair drive away - and at night you pretty much have the sound of goats and nothing else to disturb you! We weren't aware of the neighbouring villas particularly although they are reasonably close. The villa is very well equipped - especially the kitchen for cooking at home - and the owners provide a very comprehensive welcome pack on your arrival. The views in the evening are simply fantastic - the sunsets over Crete are spectacular and you can sit on the balcony or by the pool and watch the sun go down. The views over the sea and the mountains is spectacular, the piece and quiet up there is second to none. A short walk behind the villa is an impressive view of the Prassano Gorge, and a 10 minute walk away is the medieval village of Prasses which is worth a visit. You most definitely need a car and the will to drive up a very steep, windy, and not very well paved road to get to the villa, and as there are no shops nearby you need to be organised! The villa is well maintained, the pool (not that deep) is kept very clean, and the owner is attentive without invading your privacy. It is cleaned every three days with new sheets/towels provided, which is quite unusual I think for a self catering villa. Just note - at night in late September it can get a bit chilly and breezy up there, so we were grateful for spare blankets. Best 'local' beaches are a bit of a drive away as we weren't that keen on the beaches to the east of Rethymno which are probably the closest. But a 20 minute drive to the west of Rethymno is Episkopi beach which is lovely (and has sunbeds etc for free). The drive to the South of the island is stunning and the south island beaches are lovely. It's quite a trek to Elafonissi from here, but it's seriously worth the drive. Probably the nicest villa we've stayed in on a holiday. I'd happily stay for a month..... J&C, London
