Steep walk up from The Dale - I need to get fitter! Fantastic views, especially when the rain is seen across the valley in blown drifts! Comfortable seating & very comfortable bed. Didn't use the kitchen much (we were on holiday) but good quality utensils etc. Bit draughty, but to be expected when high winds outside & single glazing - not a big problem- an excuse to get close & cuddle up:)

  • A lovely cottage

Sadly we had poor weather and spent more time cooped up indoors than we would have liked. The only thing this emphasised was that there is no view form the cottage. We once spent a very, very wet week in a cottage in Scotland but could at least enjoy a view that was stunning even in the rain. Having said that, the cottage is otherwise a perfect hideaway, very cozy. I enjoyed watching live football in the "Skye" room. We had two bright days when we walked through the beauty of Dovedale, spotting treecreepers and an obliging dipper which performed for us for about 20 minutes. On drizzly days we explored Hartington itself and drove to discover villages such as Tideswell and Tissington, well worth a visit. We thoroughly enjoyed munching several times at the splendid YHA Hartington Hall (just a 300m walk). We liked both the food and the informal atmosphere. It was nice too to shop in the village - we ate rather more cheese than was good for us!
