I found our dealings with Mattie to be average/poor. Firstly, the price advertised was not the price we paid ! After booking on owners direct we got an email stating that the price had increased because of the difference in value on euros! Absolutely ridiculous. Also Mattie failed on owners direct to state that actually the price doesn't include a 'service charge' ?! Essentially this is for the property to be 'cleaned', which one would expect in any event and surely should be included in the price advertised?! When I addressed this, I was informed that it was clearly stated on the website, well the one i was subsequently sent - yes, which notably was not the owners direct websites that I had booked on! I sent Mattie several subsequent emails asking whether the room had a travel cot, and although she replied to the emails she just wouldn't answer the question and stated I should ask the owner Valerie! I was also told, we must book the taxi via Valerie, as it would be cheaper. This isn't true and I recommended you get a cab from the airport, which will roughly be 45-55 euros.
Valerie was lovely and charming. The property was in a stunning location. It's spacious and well equipped. It's in an excellent location in the middle of Old town, 5 minutes to the beach. Lots of restaraunts close by.
There is also a deposit to be paid on arrival (this again isn't advertised by Mattie on Owners direct) however provided no damage is caused, it is paid straight back to you.
I must admit my husband was very miffed on leaving the property, that he was expected to take the rubbish out ! Surely this should be included in the cleaning charge?
Overall, the apartment is in a great location and we enjoyed our stay. There are plenty of restaraunts close by, and it was enjoyable eating on the balcony with a beautiful view.
Valerie has plenty of information in the apartment about Villefranche. I recommend that you visit Monaco and Nice. The train station is a 5-7 minute walk away and the trains are very regularly. No need for a car!
The beach is lovely, but stony rather than sand!
