  • A few days in the mountains

The chalet was conveniently located for shops, restaurants and ski lifts and had parking opposite. It had great views out over the lake from the terrace. It was comfortable but a little cramped with a 15 month-old who can't sit still and two sets of stairs. A few minor gripes but nothing major - a light in the bathroom didn't work and the other one kept going off for no reason, no lids for the saucepans and the gas rings were either on or off, no regulation. Shower was good, plenty of hot water when we arrived, and the heating was on. Beds were comfortable. Would use it again.

  • Ideal get away from it all. Stunning location

The chalet we booked was in great condition, well equipped and spacious. However we are a family of 4 in a place that has enough beds to sleep 10 and we envisage that the property might feel somewhat cramped with that many people in it. Location is utterly brilliant for mountain views, hiking, horse riding, cycling, playing in the river or just lazing around. It is very quiet and peaceful (until we arrived 😉), but picturesque Ax les Thermes is only a 10 minute drive away with a decent range of restaurants. Car hire essential and having conversational French would be helpful because English is not widely spoken. The key area the owner could develop is customer service, hence why we rated the place 4 stars instead of 5. We hired sheets but when we were let into the chalet by a local couple, they essentially tossed the sheets on the couch and we had to make our own beds. After 12 hours travelling, this was not the most relaxing start to our holiday. We also paid 50 euros to get the place cleaned which, in our opinion, is hugely expensive. We made very little mess, but we didn't want to spend the last day of our hard earned holiday time doing it ourselves. We own a rental property and include linen, towels and the cleaning of the property within our rental price so were slightly disappointed by this. For British visitors, we found customer service in the area generally less of a priority than Brits are use to. That said, our holiday was very enjoyable and we will be back in the Pyrenees in the future.
