  • The perfect house for some peace and quiet
    5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at hummingbird cottage. The house has everything you need for your stay and is located close to some really great beaches and restaurants. First off, I would like to say how helpful Manfed was, he arranged a taxi to a from the airport for us and for the housekeeper to be there when we arrived. The housekeeper, sorry I can't remember her name, she was lovely really helpful with local information and explained how everything worked in the house, which was really clean and tidy. The house - It was simply furnished with a comfortable bed, nice linen and an abundance of towels! I think the thing to be aware of is that if like us you want to cook at home, then there isn't an oven. There are two electric hobs and a toaster oven. We ate really well just using the hobs, but if you are more adventurous with your cooking then you might struggle, The fridge freezer is huge and there is a great range of utensils and pans. Oh, and a blender so you can enjoy a rum cocktail for your sundowner! The outside space was great, we spent most of our time outside watching the chickens and groups of monkeys walking past. It really is a home away from home and somewhere that we hope to return to. A few things to note about the area. On the main road there is a fish market and fruit and veg stall, both are amazing. We had the best fish and it was so fresh! We really recommend the fish market. There's a big supermarket, Masseys in Holetown a 4 minute bus ride away that has everything you could wish to buy and a pharmacy. However, if you were to turn left once you are at the main road and walk for 5 minutes there is a small local shop on the left that's really well stocked. Beaches - There's a nice beach in Weston, but when we were there a house was being built so it was a little noisy, so we ventured out to find another one. If you turn left at the main road and walk for about 8 minutes there is another beach with beds and bars, where the Lone Star hotel and restaurant is - this is fancy! But if like us you crave some peace and quiet, there are some steps down to the beach next to a fruit and veg stall after the shop but before the Lone Star on the right. Buy some fruit from the lady and she is happy for you to walk down her drive to the steps. This takes you to a quiet stretch of beach that is like paradise, we had it to ourselves each day, you will thank me for this tip! The house is wonderful, go and stay there, you won't regret it.

  • Spacious and well equipped townhouse

We have just spent 2 week’s over Christmas and New Year at Porters Gate. We had a fabulous holiday and really enjoyed staying in this townhouse. The house is very spacious with a good size open plan kitchen/living area. The kitchen is very well equipped and the welcome pack on arrival was an extra bonus. We also enjoyed sitting out on the patio area where there is a good size dining table and a small couch and two chairs. The garden is very private. The bedrooms are all very spacious and light with good size ensuites and plenty of storage space. There is also a cupboard full of cool bags, beach chairs and tennis rackets/balls etc which we used. The complex is gated and felt secure and has a nice pool and tennis court. It is also at the end of a cul de sac and a few minutes walk from the main road so it is also very quiet We didn’t hire a car so travelled to places by bus. The bus stop to the city is at the end of the road. Most days we walked to the beach near the LoneStar restaurant which takes about 15 minutes. You just have to be careful in places as there is no pavement! Andrea the property manager was very helpful before we arrived and arranged airport transfers. She also met us at the property on arrival and explained everything to us. She also quickly sorted out a few minor issues with the house. We would definitely recommend Porters Gate
