We had a lovely 2 weeks here in the 6 person gite in August with our 2 children (aged 7 and 10) (and brief visit from grandparents) and would definitely go again. The views from the grounds/ pool are stunning and you are very much in the middle of nowhere (but with supermarkets etc within a 5 to 15 minute drive depending on the size you need) so very peaceful (other than my own children). The gite was very well equipped with pretty much everything you could think of, including endless good quality towels. The gite was very spacious with a lovely, secluded outside eating area. The pool was large, spotlessly clean with enough comfortable sun loungers for all the people staying at the complex (although a lot of the time we had the pool to ourselves), and loads of parasols to provide much needed shade. The only things which made our stay slightly less than perfect were that there was only 1 shower in our gite and the wifi was a bit flakey, which made last minute research into local activities a bit tricky at times..but otherwise it was fantastic! Thank you to our hosts.
We visited in mid August 2018 as a group of 4 families: 8 adults and 6 children (the latter between 3 and 9 years old). Firstly, I would concur with previous reviewers that both of the properties provide first-class, comfortable accommodation. The renovations have clearly been carried out with style and sensitivity. The availability of en-suite facilities in many of the bedrooms is a particularly desirable feature when mixed families are resident.
We noticed that the WiFi signal was variable throughout the properties and non-existent in parts of the main house, and that the DVD player was broken.
The pool and barbecue area provides a focal point for cooking, dining and relaxing and we spent much of our days together in this area. It was a pleasant surprise to find both a fridge and a dishwasher adjacent to the BBQ. The pool, itself, is safe, clean and well maintained by Paul. The grounds around the properties are quite extensive and provided much opportunity for the little ones to indulge in "famous five" fantasies: from rabbit hunting and mud-pie building to, even, a mini triathlon.
Les Cabanes has a very rural feel, but the local area provides many opportunities for interesting and exciting days out. The five cyclists amongst us indulged ourselves with many outings up and down the Dordogne valley. As we had lots of little ones to entertain we found the proximity of the "veloroute" (cycle track along an old railway line) a great bonus. Other memorable local excursions included: canoeing trips on the Dordogne (talk to Jane about how to claim a discount!), the Sarlat Monkey Forest and the Waterpark.
