Make a holiday apartment in Rome your home away from home

However you want to spend your Roman holiday, you’ll be able to find your ideal Rome apartment rental on HomeAway. Rome has more than 2,500 years of history, much of which is preserved as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There’s a wide selection of Rome apartments in a host of shapes, styles, and sizes, from sprawling luxury apartments in the Centro Storico to cosy studios in Trastevere. You can pick an apartment in Rome with the easiest connections to the coast, or opt for the heart of the city and all its culture and amenities. You can also define the extras you’d like at your Rome holiday home, with modern comforts like air-conditioning, which is a useful convenience in the summer months.

Things to do from your holiday apartment in Rome

-Ancient history. There are a host of remnants from Ancient Rome, some of which are remarkably well preserved. One is the Pantheon in Old Rome, which dates to the 2nd Century and is immaculate. Elsewhere there’s the Roman Forum, the various ruins on the Appian Way, as well as the baths of the Caracalla and, naturally, the Colosseum.

-Museums. Villa Borghese is home to many of Rome’s premier museums and cultural institutions. Here you can see a wealth of ancient, Renaissance and impressionist art at the Museo Nazionale di Villa Guilia, Galleria Nazionale d’ArteModerna and the Galleria Borghese. For Ancient Roman and Greek sculpture there are the Capitoline Museums in the Colosseo area.

-Religious landmarks. Containing the Vatican, and home to many hundreds of churches, Rome’s religious heritage is impressive. It would be well worth having a look at the interiors, which boast magnificent frescoes and other historic works of art. One of the earliest is San Clemente in Colosseo - built over a temple to Mithras from the 100s.

-Shopping. Rome is a city that appeals to all kinds of shoppers, with luxury designer shops, malls and markets. The hotspot for luxury fashion brands is Via Condotti, with its neighbour Via del Corso featuring slightly less expensive, high street brands. The largest mall in the city is Euroma2, which boasts more than 200 shops and services in the EUR area.

-Dining. Visiting Rome you’ll be able to enjoy an abundance of great restaurants, trattorias and cafes, which are scattered throughout the city. Traditional local dishes include oxtail stew, chicory salad, spaghetti carbonara and pasta all’ amatriciana. First-class gelato is ubiquitous, and there’s always an excellent pizzeria close by.

Weather in Rome

Rome is in a Mediterranean climate zone, which makes for warm summers and mild winters. Temperatures reach the mid-20s in the month of May, and the warm weather lasts all the way until October. In July and August daytime highs reach above 30 degrees on a consistent basis. Autumn and spring weather is moderate, with a little more rainfall than in summer and the odd unseasonably warm or cool spell. Winters are quite short, and still bring highs that usually get into double figures.

Travelling to your Rome holiday apartment

As the saying suggests, Rome continues to be a major meeting point for roads, but also railways and air transport. The city’s two main airports are Leonardo da Vinci (FCO) and Rome Ciampino (CIA). The former is the busiest airport in Italy, and can be reached from across the world. Ciampino is smaller and served mainly by pan-European low-cost airlines. At your holiday home in Rome you’ll have a number of urban transport systems at your service, including buses, the Metro, which has two lines, commuter rail, serving suburban areas, and even urban trams, for which there are six lines.

Fantastic pool, good location near Rome. Some upgrading required

4 of 5
We arrived late on a saturday evening and were met by Pierpaulo and Sylvia who were extremely pleasant and showed us around the house. The house is about 60 years old and was built by Pierpaulo's parents. Some aspects have been more recently upgraded such as the downstairs bathroom and one of the upstairs bathrooms. The kitchen is a mix of old and new units. The house was extremely clean throughout. The best bit of the house was the pool which was terrific and we all loved it, especially the kids. Also just outside the gates is a small but totally wonderful and very good value pizza restaurant. There is very easy access to Rome from a train station about 10 mins drive away. The town has a small supermarket (carrefour express) and there is a larger Co-op about 10 mins away by car. You would need a car. There were a couple of things that would have made the stay better. The house does need some upgrading and a lot of the old family bits and pieces and old magazines are still on display and from a guest point of view it would be nice if they weren't there. One of the upstairs bathrooms is clearly old designer and very orla kiely-esque in pattern. Quite a few of the plug sockets dont work. Also the house could really really do with air conditioning. Especially as a lot of the house is wooden inside (flooring etc) so absorbs the heat during the day making it very hot at night. Having said that it was our fault for not checking that they had air con before booking. All in all we enjoyed our stay but some upgrading of the property is required.

Superb

Anna met us at the Tram station and walked us to the Apartment, and she showed us all of her favorites restaurants and shops along the way. The location is ideal and is walking distance to most of the major sites. The apartment is very comfortable and was perfect for a family of four.
