From searching for a holiday rental in Santorini for a family wedding we came across this property on several sites. I contacted the owner directly and she came back to me almost immediately. I cannot fault the booking process and communication by text and email was excellent. We were met at the airport by Julian and driven to our accommodation. I was excited to see the property and Iro the villa manager was extremely welcoming and showed us around with great care, offering great tips about the area and supplying her english mobile number which made it very easy to contact her. The property itself is nestled into the hillside and you would have to be mobile if considering staying here as it has many steps and steep hills. It is well equipped with a well stocked kitchen and a great selection of local wine , beer and bubbly was provided, which was a lovely touch. The bedrooms are all cave like in the rock face, tastefully decorated and complete with air con and fans. There are two shower rooms with toilets and you soon get used to the fact that no paper products can be flushed away so bin is provided. The information pack that has been put together is excellent and so useful. We booked a hire car from Sarah the owner whilst in the UK and i would say this is a must. They deliver it to you and pick up when you leave. you need to pay cash though. The WiFi works well in the living room and courtyard , but once in bed in the cave signal is lost. The sun deck pool terrace is accessed up some very steep steps but you soon get used to them. The pool is small and water cold, but very welcoming after sunning yourself. The terrace gets the sun in the morning up until early afternoon, so if you like to sunbathe plan accordingly. The Metaxy Mas Tavern is a five minute walk away from the property and had been recommended by Sarah the owner and she had made a booking for the first evening ( this is a must as without booking you may not get a table) and all I can say is WOW great food, location and such friendly staff. There are specials every night and the menu is not large but has just enough of a selection. Once seated you are given cheese olives and bread cubes and my particular favorite Ice cold Raki which gives you perfect time to select your dishes. There were five in our party so between us we sampled most of the menu and everything was excellent. To finish the taverna brings out sharing deserts on the house, the cheesecake is divine!. A meal for 5 with plenty of wi
This cave house was fabulous. Really quirky accommodation with the most amazing sun terrace and splash pool with fantastic views across the island. The location is great, you definitely need a car, but it's quiet and you feel like you are in the 'real' Santorini. There are some great restaurants nearby, including metaximas, which you can walk to and everywhere is within easy reach by car. As for the owner Sarah, from our very first communication many months ago, she has been so helpful. She organised private transfers, our hire car, booked restaurants for us and there was a lovely 'welcome pack' with ham bread cheese beer wine etc upon our arrival. Iro the manager was also very helpful whilst we were in Santorini. It really was the most perfect week, our only regret is that we didn't book two!
We really enjoyed our stay.
The house is great , fabulous views in a great location. Very centrally situated on the island away from the hustle and bustle of the major towns.
Although the house has air conditioning in the bedrooms we didn't need it as it's really cool even in the height of summer.
All in all a great place to stay.
We stayed here in July and it was wonderful. Cannot thank Iro the manager enough, and thanks also to Darryl, the pool guy for his recommendations of where to eat. We ate numerous times at the local restaurant in Exo Gonia called Metaximas - eaten there before on previous holidays, and still never ceases to impress! Would def go back to this wonderful cave house, and many thanks to Sarah and Eddy, the owners for their very helpful correspondence throughout our booking etc, and also for the essentials in our cave house when we arrived - including beer and wine!!
Sarah was the perfect host and was helpful from our very first interaction all the way through to our drop off at the departures hall at the airport.
The house was exactly what we needed (and more) on our week away. Spacious, clean, air conditioned and everything else you might need.
The house is in a good residential area, away from the crowded and noisy streets of Kamari beach, Fira or Oia so you will need a car, but the house/location is the perfect home base and you'll be glad to have your own little piece of the island to yourself.
Really enjoyed our stay at Cavern House Helios - fantastic views from the terrace. Kimberley was very helpful, collecting us from the airport and ensuring there was food and drink at the villa for our arrival. Villa was very clean and had all the amenities you need. Would highly recommend Aroma Avlis, which is a winery and restaurant at the bottom of the hill (10 euros in taxi), the food, service and wine was excellent.
Overall a fantastic place which really made the holiday wonderful.
Self catering villa; pool; sea view; quiet traditional cave house.
