Hale Huna('Hidden House')is a wonderful cottage on a hillside near the 'end of the road' on North Kauai. Located on a quiet cul-de-sac with only a few other local houses. Very private and peaceful (It is NOT on/near the highway like many Kauai rentals). Perfect for a meditative getaway or honeymoon cottage. Healing and restful.
Beautiful views of green mountains from backyard. Lush plant life, including mango, banana, grapefruit, avocado, papaya and lime trees. Outdoor shower sheltered by bamboo bushes. This is a small but charming and tastefully furnished plantation-style cottage with the feel of 'real' Hawaii. Within five minutes drive of gorgeous sandy beaches, incredible snorkeling at Tunnels, Ke'e and Lumahai Beaches and world class surf at Hanalei Bay.
The closest town is charming Hanalei, which has restaurants, a grocery store, a health food store, shops, bars and more. Hanalei Bay is famous for its large crescent beach, winter surfing and calm summer waters. The stunning Na Pali Coast is just minutes away (the mountains seen from the backyard are the back of the Pali's/Mountains).
The North Shore of Kauai is known for its lush, tropical, rainforest-like climate and vegetation and low key lifestyle. It's a fantastic place to relax, read, swim, hike, surf, snorkel, eat fresh fish and my favorite, just walking on the beach looking for shells.
We are a family of 4, who live in Avon, Colorado. We feel so blessed to be able to enjoy the contrasting beauty of the Colorado mountains and the tropics of Kauai. Our two sons feel pretty lucky that they get to ski at home and play in the ocean in Kauai.
Kristi Ferraro purchased this house in 2007
We always found ourselves being drawn back to the North Shore of Kauai, so we decided to take the plunge and buy a place. We couldn't believe that we found such a cute, vintage cottage. It truly feels like the Kauai I remembered from my first visit as a young kid in 1971.
We love eating the fruit from our yard and getting to know our local neighbors. We spend almost every day at the beach. We can hardly believe that some of the most dazzling places in the world are just a few miles from our cottage: Hanalei Bay, Tunnels Beach, the Napali coast, Ke'e Beach, the Kalalau Trail and Lumahai Beach.
I would highly recommend that anyone looking to get away to the wonders of Kauai's North Shore take advantage of staying at Hale Huna. My trip was planned last minute but Kristi was generously accommodating in the arrangements. The cottage itself is perfect--tastefully decorated, spacious, well appointed, and calming. I was concerned that it was too remote but my fears were completely ungrounded. There were splendid beaches just minutes away and getting to town was easy.
The cottage was peaceful without being isolated. Comfortable without being precious. Clean without being restrictive. And instantly relaxing with no stress in the arrangements.
I will certainly look to stay there again. A great experience all around. If you are researching places to stay, and this cottage is available. Stop looking and book. It is exactly what you are looking for. You won't regret it.
Hale Huna truly is a dream vacation rental home...it is both comfortable and beautifully decorated, with all the amenities we needed in the home, kitchen and for the beach. The grounds were lush and beautiful, so coffee and meals were often taken out on the back porch. The outdoor shower quickly became a favorite daily ritual! With Ke'e beach and Tunnels beach 10-15 minutes in one direction and the town of Hanalei just 15 minutes in the other direction, the location was perfect for us. We loved every minute of our stay at Hale Huna, and will most certainly be back for another getaway!
My wife and I met my sister in Kauai for her first trip to the island. Hale Huna was the perfect Hawaiian dream rental. We love Hanalei and Ke'e beach which made Hale Huna a perfect home base. The love and attention that has been put into this property is evident. It's nice to go on vacation and to have a place like this to stay in. It is truly special. If you're wanting to stay in the North End of Kauai look no further. Just magical.
We stayed here for 2 weeks in Oct. Just on the edge of the rainy season. We were pleasantly surprised by the house. Well maintained and was very clean and spacious. The house was some distance from the beach which is always hard to tell when looking at it online. One of the neighbors I understand raises dogs to hunt the wild boar/pigs on the island, so we were serenaded by barking dogs most nights which was annoying. Be aware that you will be charged by the cleaner for additional laundry over 5 loads. We prepared for this and washed all house towels and beach towels ourselves, yet somehow the cleaner still tried to charge us an additional fee. After talking to the owner we managed to avoid this fee but still I feel that this was an unpleasant fee to face. Also, house has no view of the mtns or the ocean, so you are some what in a bubble. Other than the above, the house was very well stocked with items that we needed along with Wii games/books/music and chairs and such for the beach.
Hale Huna has everything you need for a perfect stay on Kauai's extraordinary north shore: beautiful garden, beautifully decorated and super comfy rooms, fully equipped kitchen, a full complement of beach needs (chairs, boogie boards, snorkels & masks, etc.). The 'trades' (Tradewinds) kept the simple gauzy curtains dancing and the fans kept us comfy when the 'trades' died away. Though perched well above the 'tsunami' zone, you can still hear the ocean at night. Some of the most beautiful beaches, gardens and hikes in the world are close by. And Hanalei has loads of fun spots to enjoy. Couldn't ask for a better get-away!
This was our second time back to Kauai and to the house. As the first time, we had a wonderful time again. It is very peaceful and relaxing. The rooms get plenty of air circulation, the beds are very comfortable and we slept great each night (even with the wild roosters making noise periodically). Plenty of room to spread out. We usually cooked at home and also used the outdoor grill. We always rented a car, did sightseeing and hiking. The house is located to numerous great beaches. Overall, great vacation and we'll be back :)
