Situated within the walls of the village our house offers visitors a relaxed, peaceful & historic holiday experience. Guy and Claire provide a warm welcome and are on hand to provide advice or suggestions on where to visit. Our trip advisor reviews are excellent so why not search 'Holidays in Lagrasse' to view the comments from our past clients who describe the activities and the high standard of service that we provide. Held number 1 Speciality Lodgings 2014/15/16 in Languedoc-Rousillion and recently awarded another Certificate of Excellence for 2016 from Trip Advisor.
During loving renovation, the house unveiled many historic secrets associated with the Cathars. There are 15 authentic stone arches scattered throughout the property and various 13th century paintings. The latter are currently under restoration with the first paintings unveiled in the village Maison de Patrimone (September 2014) revealing 20 chevaliers including one that depicts the coat of arms for Simon de Montfort who was hated in the Languedoc for his cruelty and ambition towards the Cathars - you are sure to feel you have taken a step back in time! However, with all mod cons and a comfortable feel to the living accommodation in the self catering gîte, it is history at its best! With arguably the most spectacular façade in the village, Neuf Rue de Cancans really is a gem nestled within the cobbled streets of a village voted 'One of Frances Prettiest'
The Arch Apartment so called for its many splendid medieval arches is on the first floor of our 13th century house and has two bedrooms. The Master bedroom (kingsize), has a 3 metre high double Venetian arched window at the foot of the bed and is a light and airy room with a handmade vanity unit and large Italian shower. The garden bedroom, so called for its lovely views over the walled garden from the Juliet balcony, is a large fresh room with twin beds (can be made into a double) and has a unique modern en-suite shower room situated through yet another stone arch. There is a separate WC.
The majestic Venetian window central to the lounge/diner allows the sunlight to flood the room and window seat beneath adds character but also invites languid afternoons of reading. The fully equipped handmade reclaimed French oak fitted kitchen adds to the charm of this apartment. The apartment and garden has free wifi (18 MB) and is fully air conditioned.
The apartment also includes access to the communal garden. One of the few houses within the village walls to have a garden - a little piece of paradise can be found. With its beautiful grassy lawn, 3 BBQ areas, a pizza oven, a recent addition, 5 terraces & solar heated secure pool with sun deck, spending time in the communal garden will be high on your list of priorities.

We are a couple that originated from Cornwall, where we both grew up in the holiday industry. After careers in the marine industry, super-yachts and economic regeneration we have found our little piece of paradise here in Lagrasse.
After a 5 year and 600 ton renovation, the secrets of the property have been revealed, providing some of the most amazing architecture, sculptures and paintings from the Cathar period.
Supplying plenty of things to see and talk about over a cold glass.
Guy Viccars purchased this apartment in 2004
The house is nearly a 1000 years old. It has a unique past and ongoing story that seems to build with every room you walk into.
To much to tell so we will wet your whistle.

Excellent rapport qualité/prix et un très bon accueil
village a visité
My husband found Holidays in Lagrasse while initially searching for accommodation near a beach and, although Lagrasse is not on the coast, we chose the accommodation based on the photos and other reviews. We were not disappointed! We're a family of three with a 12 year old daughter and we stayed in the two-bedroomed Arch apartment. It is a well-equipped apartment and has a lovely mix of old stonework and arched windows with bright, spacious and very clean rooms. Air conditioning units in the livingroom and both bedrooms kept us cool and was a real bonus! We loved eating our meals in the beautiful and peaceful courtyard and our wonderful hosts, Guy and Claire, organised both a barbecue evening and a pizza evening where we chatted with other guests while sipping delicious (local) Corbières wines. There is also a compact swimming pool which is perfect for cooling off on a hot day. The mediaeval village of Lagrasse is so lovely and doesn't feel touristy or crowded. It is also well placed for visits to Narbonne and the coast and also Carcassonne. We even managed a day trip to Aqualand at St Cyprien which is fun for children and teenagers (and grownups!) There are so many things to see and do in this area and we only scratched the surface - next time I'd like to hire bicycles and cycle by the Canal du Midi. I've been waxing lyrical about this place since we've been home and we're now planning a return visit next summer. Would I recommend this accommodation? Definitely! Thank you Guy and Claire!
This apartment and location was a real 'find'. The renovated apartment was full of character, was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The garden is a delight including the pizza oven and BBQ! The hosts Guy and Claire were lovely - welcoming, fun and very knowledgeable about the area. Thank you for a great trip - we'll definitely be back. L & A
Great apartment in lovely setting. Lagrasse very picturesque. Very relaxed week with much socialising. Guy and Claire very happy to help with advice, booking restaurants etc.
A beautiful holiday in a seriously historical house, with a wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable host. And he presents a first class barbeque! Who could ask for more. Of course we shall return.
Having spent many holidays throughout France, we stayed in one of the appartments at Neuf Rue de Cancans last September. It proved to be the highlight of a three week European tour! We have always felt on the periphery of French life but staying with the English owner Guy who is fluent in French and fully integrated into village life gave us a true flavour of France and allowed us a glimpse of what could be. From the slow cooked lamb on the barbeque, to the neighbours bringing round fresh home-grown produce and yes bottles of wine the experience is one we will never forget and will return again and again.

With consistent temperatures in the mid to late 20's from May to September this part of Southern France has something to offer everyone, with its colourful landscape which changes dramatically through the seasons.
Lagrasse is situated just 30 minutes drive from Carcassonne and 40 minutes from Narbonne. Both these wonderful cities are steeped in history with many beautiful and interesting places to explore. Lagrasse has something for everyone - bars, restaurants, local artisan shops, local supermarkets and a boulangerie to name but a few. In the summer 'brocantes' are held where you will pick up all sorts of wonderful and quirky artifacts. There is a market every Saturday in the village square where fresh regional produce can be sampled and purchased. Throughout the year you will find many events are held including live bands and classical concerts such as En Blanc et Noir. During July a internationally renowned music festival is held that engulfs the entire village. There are of course fireworks and live music to celebrate Bastille Day on July the 14th and in August there is an international ‘Banquet du Livres’ situated within the old stone walls of the medieval banqueting hall. All these lively and fun things will ensure a typically French atmosphere is found and most definitely enjoyed!
A two minute stroll up the main street will bring you to the tennis courts & the football & boules pitches. Sailing & windsurfing can be found 30 minutes drive away, so there is also something to occupy the more sporty! Skiing is approximately 2 hours away. For those wanting a truly relaxing French village experience there is the pretty beach on the river Orbieu which is only a stone's throw away through the cobbled streets. Superb fishing is also found on this river & with the Canal de Midi close by, tranquil boat trips are a must. Wonderful walks can be found in and around the village which can be tailored to suit individual needs. So whether you are wanting an invigorating hike high up in the hills or a gentle stroll along the river bank this region walking will suit all. Cycling is a fun way to explore the cobbled streets of the village and the surrounding areas we have bikes available to use. The Tour de France passes nearby each year and the tree lined roads are filled with spectators who travel from around the globe to cheer the cyclists on their way! Within easy driving distance you will also find a myriad of Cathar castles and ruins to explore.
The beautiful beaches of Leucate, Gruissan and La Franqui are located approximately 35 minutes drive away and offer all you would expect from French seaside towns. Port Leucate and its weather conditions are perfect for wind surfing, bringing keen surfers from all over Europe to hop on their boards here! There are 2 fun Aqua parks located within an hour of the house and a pirate theme park in Gruissan. In Carcassonne and Leucate there are the O2 Aventura Parcs where older children and adults can test their climbing skills - and their head for heights - in the tree top adventure park. In Sigean there is an African Safari Park which plays host - to amongst other things - elephants, lions and rhinos.
