We fell in love with Tavira and spent three years trying to find a suitable second home.
Then we discovered Casa Nautica ! It is in the historic area of Tavira .
Ideally situated in a central location for shops restaurants. ferry to the beach, local fish and produce market
We also loved the quirky nautical theme of the house.
Everything we required was there and although we didn't cook there was so much equipment had we wanted to. Fabulous house. Very envious. Taveira is charming.
We found some lovely restaurants, visited the castle, palace, museum and several churches. Took a boat trip from Santa Luzia, taxi to Cabasna (whatever its called) twice to Taveira beach and once to Barrill beach. Went by bus to Faro and another day to Real Santa Antonio. Saw many birds - flamingos, storks and herons. Even met some fellow U3A members who live in Spain in our favourite restaurant Rive Gauche.
We stayed in Casa Nautica from the 23rd of October to the 6th of November. The house is very central but is in a quiet location, all the amenities of Tavira are within easy walking distance. The house is well equipped and comfortable and we found everything we needed there. Tavira is a lovely town with plenty of places to see and full of good restaurants. We went to the beach a few times, (temperature was in the high 70's in November!), miles and miles of sand. When we go back to Tavira we will book this house again. The owners were a delight to deal with and could not have been more helpful.
We spent two weeks in Casa Nautica last August and we enjoyed it from the beginning to the end! We felt immediately at home. The house is simply perfect, fully equipped and very nicely decorated. The weather during our stay was extremely hot and we appreciated highly the air conditioning upon our return from the beach. There were even beach towels at our disposal. There is also a washing machine, so you may pack light.
We were very nicely welcomed by Tracey, the House Manager and found a welcoming bottle of wine in the fridge.
The house is located within walking distance to restaurants, shops and the ferry to Isla de Tavira.
Tavira is a lovely little town, with lots of great restaurants and in the near area several beautiful sandy beaches. On the central square of the town we discovered great ice cream and free concerts.
We are already dreaming of returning to Casa Nautica and Tavira next summer!
the property was very clean and comfortable and near to lots of cafes restaurants etc. The manager who met us was very nice and very helpful.
Casa Nautica was highly recommended to us and surpassed all our expectations being spotlessly clean and equipped to a very high standard. The owner was very helpful and House Manager gave us a very warm welcome. The centrally located property was very convenient for shops, excellent restaurants and the town. The river and nearby island provided opportunities for bird watching and enjoying the beautiful sandy beaches. We particularly enjoyed the boat trips on the river. We would love to return to Casa Nautica but possibly earlier or later in the year when cooler which would offer more opportunities for walking.
This was our first visit to Portugal and the choice of Casa Nautica in the seaside town of Tavira couldn't have better. The location was excellent with everything within easy walking distance including grocery shopping and the ferry dock to Isla Tavira, the wonderful beach. The house was in a quiet neighbourhood and was fully equipped with every thing we needed to make our stay enjoyable. Pauline , the owner, and propery manager Tracey couldn't have been more helpful. Tavira and Casa Nautica, thank you for a memorable holiday.
WE SPENT A WEEK IN THIS WELL EQUIPPED AND DESIGNED HOUSE IN TAVIRA."CASA NAUTICA" IS VERY CENTRALLY LOCATED IN TAVIRA. THE TOWN OF TAVIRA IS SPLIT IN HALF BY THE RIVER WHICH RUNS THROUGH IT.THIS HOUSE IS SITUATED A FEW STREETS SOUTH OF THE RIVER,WITHIN FIVE MINUTES WALK OF ITS CENTRAL SQUARE AND PARK AREA.THE FERRY BOAT TO THE LOCAL BEACH -ISLA de TAVIRA--IS VERY CLOSE, SO TOO ARE RESTAURANTS, CAFES, TOURIST SHOPS, AN OFF-LICENCE, SMALL GROCERY SHOPS AND THE FAMOUS ROMAN BRIDGE.
THIS HOUSE HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED DOWN TO THE SALT AND PEPPER IN THE KITCHEN ! IF YOU WISH TO COOK. THERE IS A GAS HOB WITH AN ELECTRIC OVEN AT YOUR DISPOSAL.THERE IS ALSO A DISHWASHER IN THE KITCHEN AND A WASHER/ DRYER ON THE TOP FLOOR WITH AN OUTDOOR WASHING LINE.
YOU ARE SPOILT BY THE BATHROOM FACILITIES; THERE BEING 3 TOILETS, 2 SHOWERS, PLUS A BATH ! THE KITCHEN IS LARGE AND FULLY FITTED WITH LOADS OF CROCKERY, INCLUDING BARBECUEING ITEMS.
THE CENTRAL SQUARE HAS FREE MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT AT 10 PM AT NIGHT IN THE SUMMER MONTHS.I PARTICULARLY ENJOYED EATING OUT AT THE IRISH BAR , WITH A RIVERSIDE TABLE, GAZING TOWARDS THE ROMAN BRIDGE AT SUNSET.WITH A MENU IN ENGLISH, AND MOST OF THE WAITERS SPEAKING ENGLISH, ORDERING WAS NOT A PROBLEM AND THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD WITH A LARGE CHOICE AS WELL.
TAVIRA IS A SMALL, BEAUTIFUL TOWN, VERY SCENIC WITH IT'S 18TH CENTURY ARCHITECTURE IN THE CENTRE, YET IT ALSO HAS VERY GOOD AMENITIES FOR SHOPPING, SWIMMING,EATING OUT, BEACH LIFE, CINEMAS AND A MODERN SHOPPING COMPLEX.IT IS UNUSUAL IN THAT IT IS VERY NON HIGH-RISE.
THE OWNER PAULINE AND TRACEY, HER ON-SITE MANAGER IN PORTUGAL, ARE VERY OBLIGING.
I WAS SO PLEASED BY BOTH "CASA NAUTICA" AND TAVIRA ITSELF THAT I WILL BE RETURNING NEXT YEAR; ADDING MYSELF TO AN ALREADY LONG LIST OF RETURNING CUSTOMERS YEAR-BY-YEAR.
MANY THANKS TO BOTH PAULINE AND TRACEY. MY HOLIDAY WAS EVERTHING I HOPED IT WOULD BE, AND MORE !

Tavira is a wonderful mix of the unexpected and the unusual. Within a 10 minute walk from Casa Nautica you will find a 13th century castle, the old gate of the city, a Camera Obscura, a magnificent Roman bridge, a beautiful garden with bandstand, and the old market hall which has been converted into a cafe/restaurant, craftshops' area. Then, there are the numerous churches for which Tavira is famous. Pick up your fresh fish, fruit and vegetables from the new local market and admire the salt pans where the famous Tavira salt is harvested.
The closest beach to Casa Nautica is the Ilha de Tavira, a popular attraction for locals and visitors, summer and winter. A picturesque ferry trip takes you there from the riverside in the town, during the summer, or from the four aquas' jetty, in the winter. The Barril beach, close to Pedras del Rei, is often voted by our guests as the best beach.
Other Activities: Bird watching.
Golf: There are four golf courses in the Eastern Algarve. The closest golf courses to Casa Nautica are Benamor and Quinta da Ria..
