About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bathroom Cabin on Houghton Lake

This rustic cabin located on the east shoreline of Houghton Lake is the perfect getaway. Whether you are looking for, swimming, fishing or just relaxing on the water, Marsh Landing has it!

Sit on the dock watching the kids play in the lake with a fishing pole or read a good book all within feet of this cabin. This 40 foot dock has a bench that faces the beautiful sunsets on Houghton Lake.

A lawn swing overlooks the lake for capturing the early morning sun and waterfowl or gazing at the beautiful view of the night lights reflecting on the lake. Enough can’t be said about the beauty of this lake from the dock. Not only is the waterfront a great feature, the large lawn area between the cabin and the lake is great for yard games too!

The 2 bedrooms offers Queen size beds with brand new mattresses. There are two full size sofa sleepers in the living room area to sleep an additional 4 guests. All you need to bring is your bedding, towels and toiletries.

The kitchen has everything you need; dishes, pots & pans and utensils. The owners have also installed a water filter for cool great tasting water. Wi-Fi is provided and the living room TV offers Chromecast.

If cooking is not what you want to do on vacation, there are an array of menus from local restaurants for dining in and take out or delivery. If BBQ is more your style, there is an outdoor gas grill and a charcoal grill for you to show off your skills. A large cement patio with table and chairs round out this wonderful vacation getaway.

We had a blast staying here. Nice yard to play lawn games, neighbors are close but friendly.

Great lake view but had some challenges...

  • 2 of 5

Multiple emails (3) with access instructions and the address were not received until a couple of hours prior to the expected arrival and the lock box code noted in the most recent email was not accurate. I had to call the emergency line and wait for a while to get a call back with the right code that it turns out I had all along in the 1st email. I arrived at dusk on Friday and could not see the address on the property and there were no exterior lights on as the motion sensor switch inside the cottage was set to "off". The house address was discovered the next day on the face of the garage but the numbers need updated painting to be more visible. There was no phone number or on sight support available for general issues that were non-emergent that if available and responsive would likely have improved our experience. I emailed and called back to the emergency number on Saturday reporting missing screens on the windows facing the water, missing screen slider on the the sliding door wall, the door wall lock being problematic to lock or unlock (but we couldn't use the door wall anyway due to the missing screen slider) and have yet to receive a call back when I was told I would receive a call back the next day (Sunday). I didn't really expect a call back on Sunday but no call came on Monday or ever. So we just dealt with the missing screens and didn't use the slider door wall at all. If present, the screens would have assisted cross-ventilation and air flow that was necessary due to the heat and lack of air-conditioning but the property did have multiple oscillating fans that helped. The bed sizes were advertised as queen but they were only full sized beds. The water pressure in the shower was very weak. Most of the electrical outlets were only 2 prong. I expected to be working and had to move furniture around and then back to have my work computer cords able to reach a properly grounded outlet. The cottage itself was very good sized with an amazing lake view but obviously suffered some from being occupied mostly by renters. There was peeling paint, unkempt shrubs, holes in the garage doors, multiple spider webs and the swing needs sanding and refinishing. The dock and bench seat looked nice but were wobbly and need securing. Overall, I reminded myself that it was just a rented cottage but the daily rate seemed fairly high for what we got. Apparently the price was for the view only. Disappointed but lesson learned...

Peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this cottage on the lake. It had a well stocked kitchen and plenty of space. The view of the lake was priceless. We plan to rent again when in the area.
