About Dan Gilroy

Originally from Ohio I moved our family here before the children grew up because it is the opposite of cold and grey. In the decades since I have grown to love the natural beauty of things in, on and around the water.

Dan Gilroy purchased this house in 1996

Why Dan Gilroy chose Lower Florida Keys

We had wintered in the area for 2 years and picked this location because of good neighbors, easy water access and a quiet street that was still near enough to US1 to have easy access to necessities. Honestly, the view from the house across the water is the best I've ever seen down here. There's not a house in the Keys that I've ever visited that has a better view. See for yourself and decide.

What makes this house unique

The view. Almost a half acre of land which is quite large for the Keys. Lots of privacy fenced parking for friends , boat trailers and good times. Both blue water and backwater access right outside the door. Did I mention the view?

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our group had a very enjoyable stay at Casa Domingi. The weather was cooperative as we were able to fish every day and did not have any rain. The property worked out fine for us. The location is excellent for fishing the bridge area. We docked three boats and rafted two together which worked okay. The big inflated buoy’s worked great to keep the boats off the sea wall. We moved the table from the west patio into the living room for dining. We had plenty of room for parking our vehicles and boat trailers. The place is very quiet and somewhat isolated which we liked. We ended up with seven people as one individual had an accident the week before the trip and had to cancel. I slept one night on the couch and the rest of the week on the seaside patio on an air mattress and cot. The breeze was very nice and kept the mosquitoes away. Our group was definitely liked the properties and will consider it next year. I liked your house manual as it is very complete and well done. We did not eat any meals out and cooked all our meals in house.

A couple of improvements we would suggest are a fish cleaning station and rod racks for stowing the fishing rods would be nice. I did see a scorpion in the lower lever as it scooted under the chair. The seawall could use a few more cleats and bumpers to more conveniently dock three boats directly on the sea wall.

Great Value!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Domingi was all as advertised. The house was the perfect setup and location for a group of 6. Easy access to kayaking at the Old Wooden Bridge Fishcamp, quick drive to Bahia Honda, 25 minutes to Sombrero Beach in Marathon, 50 minutes to Key West. We missed snorkling at Looe Key because of unrelenting east winds but that drive is only 15 minutes. It was great to be able to bring our dogs with us. I highly recommend Casa Domingi if you are doing a trip to the lower Keys!

Owner's Response: Thanks much folks. We keep it real at Casa Domingi. We're glad you had a great time here in paradise. Casa Domingi is a great value in the Florida Keys in particular when our location is put into play. So close to everything, yet so peaceful. You bring up a point that is often overlooked, our pricing is quite the value when compared to any vacation home on open water. There just aren't that many of us down here and most are quite pricey. Good location, good times and good value... not a bad combo.

Beautiful Sunrises

  • 5 of 5

Everything was perfect, the house had everything we needed, very clean. Especially liked the welcoming bottle of champagne.

Owner's Response: Thank you kindly! It's not easy being perfect, but we sure do try. Cleanliness is next to Keysiness (ok, I made that up on the fly). Nonetheless a clean hut is a happy hut and we like clean just as much as you do. After that day of traveling down, it's always nice to find a little surprise to get your vacation started. If you like our sunrises, you'll love our moonrises, the view is spectacular. We at Casa Domingi are truly glad you had a good time, that's what vacations in paradise are made of.

Peaceful retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week at Casa Domingi. The house has fabulous views of th water. We were too lazy to get up with the sunrise, but saw some fantastic moon rises from the patio. The views never failed to impress us. We did a lot of sightseeing in the area and enjoyed the relaxing and peaceful surroundings of the house when we got back. There was a notebook full of terrific information at the house and we read it daily and even went to the bars and restaurants recommended. It was great information. The house iteself is very well stocked and had pretty much everything we needed. We had a small issue with an air conditioner, but the owner responded right away. The house is about a 40 minute drive to Key West and very close to the Honda Bahia State Park which is awesome. We all loved this place and highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: You nailed it, thanks folks! If you're looking for a place to recharge your batteries all the while being just a few minutes from the action, Casa Domingi is the hut for you. Walking out through the French doors to the water side veranda is breathtaking. If you did nothing more than that, your vacation would be complete... but there is so much more. It is freeing to enjoy a week of paradise here in the Florida Keys, irregardless of your game plan. That notebook is our little friend. It give you our vision of almost 20 years of local knowledge and lets you enjoy your vacation like a boss, making the most of your time. After you left, we went back to that A/C and found a kink in a line. We broke out our de-kinking device and now that we are kinkless, we have high anticipation of good things.

Owner's Response: Thanks guys! It is a great place to relax, we're glad you had a great time. As we speak, we're hard at it freshening things up to make it even more comfortable and relaxing. A little paint, a little art, we've even added a few new chaise loungers on the patio to aid in taking in that great view from the perfect location down here in the warm and sunny Florida Keys.

Quiet, Great Water View from 2 Levels, Covered

  • 5 of 5

Inside, the kitchen has all new appliances, and everything you need to cook, serve and clean up. Bedrooms are bright and happy, two overlooking the water with really comfy beds. The decision between the sunrise and bed was tough, but what a sunrise! Rooms have individual remote control temperature controls. I like energy efficiency. Shiny clean bathrooms, too. Lots of games, books and movies available for all ages, just in case. Also, read the white notebook. Very helpful.

Outside there are THREE different covered patio spots for hanging out, each with tables and chairs. One day when it was too windy for the upstairs balcony, we moved the party to the downstairs patio. Perfect. Also, the large front balcony off the kitchen overlooks the big front yard. There were mosquitoes closer to the road, but the breeze on the water side seemed to keep them there, away from the house. The citronella candles on the tables helped for the one time we were out at dusk with no breeze. The dog had a great time too. He learned stairs, and that the roosters in town were not his friend.

Next time, hopefully a longer stay, we'll rent a kayak and paddle boards to enjoy the water from the water. I would definitely recommend this property for anyone who likes quiet and remote, but so close to restaurants, bars, groceries, etc. Visit Key West if you've never been. It's pretty cool.

Owner's Response: What can I say but a very humble thank you kindly, folks. There's not much more for me to say. This accurate review says it all. There just isn't a better view on this island especially if you love dramatic sunrises. The location is excellent, convenient, quiet and tropical. This is a great, clean and well maintained base station for your next vacation.
