I absolutely loved my stay here. The cottage was beautiful and we had every thing we needed from beach/pool towels, to games to every type of kitchen utensil needed. (We did a lot of baking) There was a big group of us who had come out for my 25th birthday and we felt very free to get on with our holiday. Barbara was such a warm and welcoming host. She was there at any point on the phone whenever I had any queries and though we didn't need to Barbara said we could knock on her door if we needed her. I just couldn't fault my stay here. The only thing I would have changed is the length of time we stayed. Two nights wasn't enough especially as I think I could have spent my whole life in the pool. Next time I'll be back for at least a week.
Thank you Barbara!
Wonderful property, perfect for large groups ( ideal for large families) in a good location for access to the moors and beauty spots. The owners are very pleasant and helpful. There is also a small heated swimming pool which is just perfect for a dip following a long walk on the moors !!.
We stayed for Christmas, 6 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs.
The owner Barbara Clarke got back to my messages instantly which made the booking so easy.
The property is lovely. 3 bedrooms downstairs with one ensuite plus a family bathroom. Upstairs is another family bathroom.
There are stairs either end of the large lounge a bedroom one end and at the other is a futon wich could easily be used as a bedroom.
The lounge has an open fire and 2 large doors to a private garden with decking and table and chairs.
The kitchen has everything you will need for cooking plus a dishwasher and washing machine.
The photos really don't do this property justice.
The pool is spotless with spectacular views and a play area outside.
We will definately be recommending this property and if we do a big family holiday we will be returning.
Exeter is 20 mins away and we found lovely shops there and restaurants.
This house deserves all 5 stars.
We have just returned from a week at Old Orchard and can't recommend it highly enough. The accommodation was spotless and the living room in particular was spectacular. The large outside deck area leading off the living room is private, sheltered and south facing and given that we had 7 days of unbroken sunshine, had lots of use so was an unexpected bonus (in late March!). The facilities in the cottage are of a high standard, including very good and plentiful kitchen equipment (even a food processor) and the added extras on arrival (toiletries/wine/flowers/biscuits/tea/filter coffee) are a nice touch. The shared games facilities are great (table tennis/table football/mini snooker/darts/swimming pool and sauna) and all indoors. The owners are are very helpful and attentive without being intrusive and their dogs are adorable.
We enjoyed dining at the Old Inn at Drewsteignton (booking required - only open Weds-Sat nights) and The White Horse at Moretonhampstead (fabulous Italian style pizza as well as normal menu choices).
The location is secluded whilst also being very convenient for accessing all parts of Dartmoor easily and we are certainly hoping to return in the future.
My family and I stayed at Great Cleave from the 10th April - 17th April 2010. We had a fantastic time. The cottage was very well equiped almost home from home. The swimming pool was an added bonus, really warm and very clean. The owners have several dogs who are very friendly and made friends with my dog and nephew. We would love to book this again.
Dartmoor National Park is one of the last wilderness areas of Britain -- moorland landscape, wild ponies, ancient settlements -- great walks. Also easy access to Exmoor, and either the rugged seascapes of North Devon and Cornwall or the milder Channel shores of South Devon. 3 miles from Chagford (old town known for its shopping and nearby walks), 10 from Exeter, 8 from Okehampton. We are within 10 miles of three 18 hole golf courses including Bovey Castle. Only an hour from the Eden Project. Children love the Miniature Pony Centre at Moretonhampstead (5 miles) and the House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey (12 miles). Five minutes from the last castle built in England -- Castle Drogo. 13 miles from Exeter and Exeter University.
On a typical day at East Underdown you could talk a short walk up the road to the ancient stones of Spinster's Rock, lunch at one of the many local pubs, relax with a swim and sauna before cuddling up by the wood burner (or hanging out on the private patio).
