Almost totally secluded, the property is bordered at the top by the Nantahala National Forest with mountain hiking available. The 4,400 sq ft, three floor interior contains: 4 custom decorated family suites, a loft, and 4 1/2 baths. Awesome 1,100 square foot game room in the lower level. It is lavishly furnished with art-work caliber hand-crafted live edge pieces. This home contains all the amenities necessary to enjoy your North Carolina vacationing experience. The Master Suite, called the Buck & Doe Room contains a handcrafted custom king bed. The Bear Den has a queen bed and a bench large enough for a small child, the Western Room has a queen bed. The Rustic Barn Room downstairs has 2 Queen Sharper Image Memory Foam beds. The Cowboy Loft has a convertible queen couch. A wrap-around deck on the main floor is accessible from the Master Suite and the Bear Den, with the main Viewing Deck completely covered, and has a staircase to the lower level deck. The game room (Little Critter Room) has six custom bunk beds, each with outlets, lights and chalk boards. All in all, the property sleeps 10 adults in the bedrooms, 2 more in the loft (fold-out couch) and 6 children in twin bunk beds (we have 2 inflatable queen mattresses also). Our main gathering room in the Lodge has a massive stone fireplace that reaches to the top of the cathedral ceiling. The Lodge is large enough for almost any family gathering looking to enjoy the great Smoky Mountains. The Loft is also our TV room with a 65” Mitsubishi and DVD collections for all ages; full game library and book library with over 100 hardcover titles. The lower level has a wrap-around fully covered deck. The Game Room has ping-pong, air hockey, foosball, and a 12 foot table shuffleboard. It also has a 75” LED Mac Daddy TV with gaming consoles and game library. This home is a party and relaxation paradise. What we offer above the rest however, is our spectacular property. Sitting on 11 acres of mountainside, we have several hiking trails and 3 seasonal waterfalls. Above us is unlimited hiking and hunting (in season) in the bordering Nantahala Forest. In addition to 4 fire pits, we have our own 10,000 sq. ft. Mountain Rec Deck. It boasts a multi-purpose sand court for volleyball, badminton and many other games. We have a great horseshoe pit, corn-hole set, tetherball and more. All sports equipment is included. So if you want to venture out for any of the spectacular day trips available or simply enjoy your visit to the Lodge at Beasley Mine, we’ve got you covered.
Our driveway is a 3/4 mile gravel road. We maintain it regularly and it stays very drive-able. We have no problem with our Caravan or Infinity going up and down. Front wheel and 4-wheel drive vehicles work best. It is not recommended for motorcycles as it is steep in parts and has some loose gravel.

About Ricky Howe
We are the Howe family from Tampa, FL. Debbie started Affordable Catering in 1995 when our son was born and we (Ricky, Debbie, two girls (Tera & Taylor) and a boy (Triston)) all work there now. It has been a great journey and this new project at the Lodge at Beasley Mine will be a blast.
Ricky Howe purchased this Cabin in 2015
Why Ricky Howe chose Cowee
We shopped all over Florida looking for a weekend getaway from our busy catering lives in Tampa. We exhausted all known listings and took a trip to Northern GA to see some lake properties there. Nice stuff but not quite what we wanted. Debbie had one more listing 2 hours away in Franklin NC. Not thrilled about driving that far but we did and went to see Beasley Mine the next day. We couldn't believe our eyes. Everything we ever wanted. It wasn't finished and wasn't maintained but we knew we could do that part. Here we are. Hope you like it as much as we do.
What makes this Cabin unique
We love that it is 11 miles from town, down a 2 lane country road that winds through a gorgeous river valley. The 3/4 mile gravel road to the top of the mountain is only scary the first time you make it to the top. We are almost totally secluded with 2 homes about 1/4 mile away down the "holler". Above us is the Nantahala National Forest with some timber roads and mines and mountain hiking. There is 1 year-round waterfall (challenging trail access) and 2 smaller seasonal waterfalls on the property and several trails. The whole log construction is pretty impressive and feels great. The massive stone fireplace is awesome. 2 decks wrap around the back of the house for watching the sunsets. 4 awesome fire pits. Incredible Game Room, and a fully equipped kitchen. This is mountain living at its best.

Unbelievable mountain retreat!
Our group of 15 lacked nothing during our spectacular stay at the Lodge at Beasley Mine. WOW! I've never seen a house quite like it! With the huge, well-stocked game room, multiple flat-screen televisions, book and movie library, open kitchen, and massive stone fireplace, you could never get bored at this home, even on the coldest or rainiest day. Our kids were happy from the minute we entered the driveway! We also loved exploring the outdoor property. We took hikes, explored mines and waterfalls, and sat around the fire at night. Several of our boys and one dad took the "Beasley Mine Challenge" and posted times. The adults loved the covered porches and many places to sit and talk or read. We also played games at the huge dining room table after cooking together every night. We never felt a need to be in town or have any entertainment not provided at the cabin. Our kids are busy planning the next stay! We just hope we can get on the schedule. As much as I'd like to keep information about this cabin all to myself, I have to say that you'll never regret a stay here. Book it and make memories for a lifetime!
Wow is right. You guys had family fun the old fashioned way. So happy you explored the property, the trails, the mines, the swings and everything in between. A blazing fire pit at night is just the best way to sit around and re-enjoy everything that happened that day and imagine the great plans for the next day. Thanks for running the Beasley Mine Challenge and thanks for staying with us.
Beautiful cabin and grounds
We celebrated our daughter's graduation from WCU with people coming from NY, VA and NC. The cabin was very clean with plenty room for 16 of us. We weren't lacking for anything (blankets, bedding, towels, kitchen supplies, etc). We were blessed with gorgeous weather so most of our time was spent playing the variety of outdoor activities provided as well as a bonfire each night but there were also lots of games and movies available indoors.
The drive up the driveway was a little bumpy and would recommend an AWD or FWD vehicle (truck/SUV) for the added power.
I would highly recommend enjoying this cabin!
Surface clean; not really clean
The place was not very clean. It was clean on the surface but as you got into your stay you saw that it really wasn't clean. For example, when you went to open a window you would stick your hand up under the blinds to unlock it and come down with a hand full of cobwebs and flies.
Ultimately, I could not give this place a better review because we had mouse droppings in our bed. I would never go back to a hotel if I slept in mouse poop so I have to say I would not return here for the same reason.
- You have to take you own trash to the dump. This is not a problem in general until you are packing up to go home. If you do not have a pickup truck this is very inconvenient. Even if you go to the dump the night before leaving, you are going to have trash to take from breakfast, cabin clean-up, and just the fact that eleven people produce trash.
- No real internet, there is limited internet but in today's world in might as well not even be listed. If you want to use the internet there is an additional fee to the owner.
- This is a beautiful place and big enough for a large group
- It is secluded and quiet
- Lots of land to explore
Really Awesome Cabin!
Our group of 8 adults had a great time and loved everything about the place. The pictures can't really do this property justice in my opinion. The owners have really thought of everything.
Thank you for the kind words and thanks for staying with us at the Lodge at Beasley Mine. Hope you can visit again.
Beautiful, well-stocked house on amazing property!
We stayed three nights with 18 people ranging from ages 2 to 72. This house is so spacious with plenty of room to spread out. The kids loved the Critter Room with all of the games, and there are numerous hiking trails on the property. The owner was consistently quick with a reply, which we appreciated. The driveway was fine for driving, but that "Beasley Mine Challenge" (a race up the driveway) was a workout! We hope to return soon.
Thank you for staying with us and so glad you all had a great vacation. Your times for the Beasley Mine Challenge were incredible and it's always great to see multi-generational families take on the toughest 3/4 mile race in the Great Smoky Mountains. :)
The pictures online do not do this cabin or the property justice. The whole cabin has a rustic appeal with country-western themed rooms. We visited the cabin with another family and all of the teenagers spent a majority of their time downstairs in the Bunk/Game Room or outside in the recreation area.
During our stay, we enjoyed walking the trails up the mountain. We were absolutely amazed by the waterfalls and the caves. We took a trek inside one of the caves and, once in, it opened up into a waterfall with a small pool area. It was so exciting to be able to explore the cave without a guide!
We will absolutely be booking this cabin again!
Thank you for the great review. With all the rain there, the waterfalls have been great. The caves are for the brave souls willing to venture into the darkness but they are beautiful once you get inside. So glad you had to chance to check them out. It's quite an adventure. Thanks for staying with us.
This corner of NC is the waterfall capital of the U.S. There are waterfalls of every size and shape. Some near the road, some a good hike. Great exploring. There are also many gem mines in the surrounding area that are great fun. All types of outdoor activities are available within 1-2 hours, including whitewater rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, tubing and golf. There is fishing and hunting (in season), all around. Franklin NC is only 11 miles away and is a great little town with all the expected amenities, shops and restaurants.
