Overview

About the property

Kona coffee, Avocados, mac nuts and more!

Kona Mauna Kai is a working farm on the slopes of Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawaii. Mauna Kai means mountain and ocean and that’s exactly what you get on our farm. 180 degree views of the beautiful Kona coastline.

Guests are invited to pick from the farm for breakfast. Our own 100% Kona coffee in the room for you, or tea if you prefer.

Currently, we grow and sell avocado, macadamia nuts, and Kona coffee. With oranges, lemons, limes, tangerines, bananas, guava, loquat, and many more, there’s always fresh produce in season. Stroll through the orchards and see what’s blooming.

The farmhouse has a stunning 180 degree view of the beautiful Kona coast. Enjoy dinner in the cool mountain air while you watch the amazing sunset. Gaze up at the brilliant stars and relax in a lounger. Walk the grounds and enjoy the tropical flowers and plantings. You might even see the pheasant family making their rounds or the wild turkeys that mosey through.

The 2 bedroom, 2 bath roomy guesthouse can sleep 8. The master has a king bed and sitting area, bathroom, and slider to the lania. The second bedroom has 2 twin beds and its own bathroom.

Kona Mauna Kai is perfectly located to enjoy the southern end of the island. Just 33 miles to the black sand beach at Punalu’u. Only 32 miles from the green sand beach at Papakolea. And just 60 miles from Volcanoes National Park.

Closer by is Pebble Beach, Hookena Beach Park, and the old fishing village of Millolii.

If you want to get away from it all and relax on the farm, Kona Mauna Kai Farm is the place for you.

About Dana Cowden

We met in Hawaii and fell in love with this magical island. After ten years of visits and buying the perfect place, we finally made the move. We love it here and can't imagine living anywhere else. This island is soothing, healing, and a joyous place. We love sharing this all with those traveling here to find paradise.

Why Dana Cowden chose Captain Cook

This property is in a quiet rural area. We have 100 Mac nut trees, 100 Avocado trees, and 150+ coffee trees. Also growing on the farm are papaya, oranges, tangerines, passion fruit, etc... We are away from the hustle and bustle. You can see the ocean from every vantage point.

What makes this house unique

Farm fresh Kona Coffee ready for you to grind and brew.

We are only 6 miles from our favorite beach, Honomalino Beach.

On the way to the Black sand beach and Green sand beach. Volcano Park is an hour drive up the road.

Amazing gem!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great little hideaway, the view from the Lanai was incredible, we loved listening to the birds during the day and frogs at night. The owners were very accommodating and even made us an amazing breakfast. Very cool to walk the farm itself and see everything growing! Would be happy to visit again!

Dreamy and relaxing property

  • 5 of 5

I made a last-minute decision to stay here, after the volcano eruption ruined our original plans. Not knowing much about this area, I relied on previous reviews of the place--and they were all correct. Dana and Sam were wonderful hosts--as Texans they understand true hospitality--and the Farmhouse was comfortable, clean, and a perfect size for our party of 4 plus 1 toddler. Our toddler loved feeding the chickens and stomping around the 6 acres of lush coffee and avocado trees. We especially enjoyed the Honomolino black sand beach just a drive down from the house, and listening to the tree frogs at night. Driving to and from Kona does take some time, so be prepared to enjoy the south side of the island once you arrive here. Our only regret was not staying an extra night! Many thanks to Dana and Sam for welcoming travelers to Hawaii.

A great place; wonderful hosts. The accommodation was very clean, the farm was fun to walk around.

Dana and Sam were both very nice and very helpful. The breakfasts were amazing ! They had some extra beach gear we borrowed ( masks, snorkels, fins, ...), which was great because some amazing snorkelling locations are very close by. The highway to their farm was narrow and twisty, so you need to leave enough time for this.

Looking for that unique get-away? This is it!

  • 5 of 5

Dana and Sammy were fantastic hosts. The farmhouse is amazing and is the perfect set up for two couples allowing each to have their own private bedroom/bathroom space. Everything was very clean and comfy.

This is a nice central location on the west side of the island. We had great walks each morning and then came back to their spectacular breakfast on the deck.

Added bonuses were our many conversations with our hosts, meeting several guests that stayed in the studio suite, listening to the endless songbirds, casual walks throughout the property, and more.

Thank you Dana and Sammy for sharing your piece of heaven with us.

Accomodations could not have been better suited to us

  • 5 of 5

The weather didn’t really cooperate for the grand views but we really enjoyed ourselves. Jana provides unparalleled breakfasts. Sammy is a wonderful guide and educator about farming on their part of the Big Island
