We are committed to doing whatever we can to make your stay in our family home on Martha's Vineyard a special one. We think that our house is the best in town and offers any visitor a truly unique and authentic island experience. Judging from our sellouts during our first two years on the market our guests agree.

I grew up in the home you are viewing and spent my summers there until I graduated from college. The home was purchased by my father the year I was born and was used by him and my mother until 2008.
Prior to managing this property I owned and ran Island Sports from 1974 until 2007 with my wife Nancy. I am now a Realtor in Southern Florida.
It is quite a home and I am proud to be able to share it with you.
Platt Johnson purchased this house in 1955
In 1955 my parents purchased the Captain Morse House and I then spent every summer there until I moved to Newport Rhode Island in 1979. I continued to visit my parents each summer until 2007. I now spend as much time as I can on island attending to the house and maintaining it. When it was built in 1840 it was perhaps the best home in Edgartown. Now movie stars and celebrities have built larger homes but non with the style and class of the Captain Morse House. Our guests aren't clients so much as they are friends assisting us in maintaining the property and keeping it in our family for future generations.
Our guests say this is the perfect location. You are close to town and right up from the harbor. Park the car for the week or leave it on the mainland. Our location allows for freedom from car pooling and shuttles. Everything is literally a walk away. We love walking down Morse Street to the boatyard to see what's happening on the waterfront and to talk to the boaters and fisherman.
The large open home offers privacy and retreat no matter how many people fill the house.
The large backyard can serve as a base for quiet afternoons as well as an evening party.
The restaurants and shops are all an easy walk away but it is the waterfront that is the best part of living at the Captain Morse House. After all - it is a whaling Captain's home
I stayed at the Captain Morse House Thanksgiving week with my entire family--11 adults and four children. We had very high hopes for a great weekend and they were far exceeded. The CMH is very roomy with plenty of bathrooms. It is in a wonderful location in Edgartown--beach/shops/pubs /restaurants all within easy walking distance. The house is very roomy and has a number of areas to relax or watch TV. Wifi is excellent. The two kitchens are incredibly well supplied. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner without any problem. I can't think of anything that we lacked. On top of it all, Platt was extremely easy to deal with and ultra-responsive to any questions that we had. My family is ready to book CMH again. I recommend without any reservation.
I rented this home for a mastermind weekend for 8 women. We loved the ability to walk to everything in Edgartown, the charm of home and how well stocked the kitchen was!
My husband and I rented this home for our closest friends and extended family members to stay during our wedding on the Vineyard this October. Although we are very familiar with the island, the vast majority of our guests had never been before, and the Captain Morse House offered a perfect location, very comfortable accommodations, and so much MV history for the group. The house is incredibly spacious and has numerous bathrooms and areas to spend time, while still offering plenty of space for groups looking to relax -- we had a rainy weekend and our guests loved solving puzzles in the living room and taking advantage of several of the DVDs provided as well. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and all guests said the rooms and beds were very comfortable. The location cannot be beat - a parking space is available but there is not a need for a car if you're looking to take advantage of all Edgartown has to offer.
We would highly recommend the property for anyone looking for a relaxing group stay in one of the most historic, well-maintained homes on the island. The owner was very responsive as well - the weekend was cooler than the previous week so we requested a temperature adjustment (it was controlled remotely). He immediately adjusted the thermostat for us and provided a quick text update as well. The house is a remarkable property and all of our guests left with very fond memories.
What an awesome house. Very clean, and centrally located to everything. My family walked everywhere!
I can’t imagine a more perfect setting for extended family to stay for a Martha’s Vineyard wedding. The location is ideal-- only a few minutes walk to all the Edgartown shops and restaurants and the waterfront. The historic house is lovingly maintained, full of charm and easily handled our crowd of sixteen. The bikes were a nice plus and we got good use out of them. Other members of the wedding party who were regular visitors to the Vineyard were eager to come over and get a tour —it is that kind of a house!!!
A truly superb home with all the amenities and ideally located. It was a A brief ten minute walk to fine dining and shops in Edgartown.
Staying in this elegant home was an experience in itself. It had all the finery and grandeur of a home of its significance but still fet warm and cozy for family gatherings.
Although the home is ideally suited for a family reunion with may adult couples and children in tow, my four sisters and our mother (who requires a wheel chair ) never felt lost in this grand home.
Sailing, Fishing, Beaches and Island fun. The Vineyard is a playground for adults and children of all ages. I grew up here and should know.
Yes I was lucky to grow up here. Vineyard summers are truly fantastic and the quality of the air and water combine to make things more crisp and beautiful than you can imagine.
