Description

Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday cottage in Broughton-in-Furness - Oakbank Cottage

Peaceful, stylish and super-comfy, with great walks from the door

'A really fabulous cottage in a beautiful location'.

'The best holiday cottage we've stayed in in the Lakes( Visitor comments)

BEDLINEN, TOWELS, FULL SKY TV PACKAGE, PHONE & WIFI - NO CHARGE

This beautifully furnished cottage is a real home-from-home, with bags of space and really stylish and comfortable family accommodation. Wonderfully peaceful (and relaxing!) it's set in breathtaking scenery, with an old post office & stores a delightful stroll down the valley. There's loads of great things for all the family to enjoy nearby - from the owl sanctuary at Muncaster Castle and the little single gauge steam railway to the coast, to the Cumbrian Heavy Horses Centre and the Roman fort at Hardknott. It's an easy drive to the Lake District's best-known attractions and amazingly, to vast sandy beaches. The little town of Broughton-in Furness is just 10 minutes away with two great food shops offering local produce, and some lovely old inns nearby offer excellent food. Yet you're in the heart of the mountains here with wonderful walks from the door too. You can relax in the oak-beamed sitting room and enjoy roaring log fires, comfy sofas & piles of books and games, or chill out and watch Sky TV and DVDs. The gorgeous, beautifully-equipped kitchen -breakfast room has glass doors that open onto the patio and walled garden, where you can sit with a glass of wine and relax, listening to the waterfall and rushing stream nearby. Heaven! This cottage is 4 Star Visit Britain, Gold, which means it's really lovely, but not too scary for families with young children or pets.

Delightful well equipped cottage in a beautiful location.

Can't ask for any better in Cumbria!

Lots to do and see in the surrounding areas but wonderful to return home to a roaring fire after a busy sightseeing day.

Oakbank Cottage, Lake District (South)

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage. Well equipped and maintained. It is in a good location for exploring the South Lakes which have so much to offer - small and big walks, boating, seaside etc. The owners were really helpful and responsive too.

July/August 2010

We stayed here for the first week of the summer holidays with 5 adults and 2 teenagers. The cottage location is fabulous and the standard of accommodation very good - it is exactly what you see in the photos. We had the most wonderful time and walked from the house on a couple of occasions through the wonderful Duddon valley - which we called 'our valley' as we felt so at home there. It was great to arrive back to the comfortable house and relax outside in the garden. I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of staying here - plenty of room for up to 9 people and very comfortable.

A beautiful retreat!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here recently and are in no doubt that we will return. The standard of cleanliness and attention to detail around the cottage were second to none.

Despite there being nine of us, we never once felt like we were on top of each other, as there was plenty of space.

The location of the cottage is also spectacular and we made full use of this; plenty of walking and a couple of trips to the local pub (although it has to be said that a car would be needed for this, as the pub was not in walking distance.)

I would recommend the cottage and location for all ages, as there is something to do for everyone.

I would also like to say how lovely it has been dealing with Candy; she is very, very friendly and professional. The ideal person to deal with when you are organising a holiday for nine girls!

5 day hideaway with my best friends

  • 5 of 5

This beautifully funished, typical Lakeland cottage was perfect for our stay in the Lakes. The cottage left no wishes open and with it`s charm we all enjoyed our holiday there.

You`ll find a very quiet and nice surrounding. Nevertheless you definitely need a car to reach the outer civilisation, but this makes it so very special to us. Hopefully the valley stays as it is with low impact of tourism. By car and with some "time in your luggage" you`ll find the best pubs, England can offer and there are more then enough activities in the valley as well as in driving distance you can choose from to make your stay a perfect holiday.

The owners of Oak Bank cottage are very friendly, helpful and accurate so your whole holiday is as it supposed to be - relaxing and inspiring.

Many thanks for these great days with my friends up there in the cottage, we loved it!

In the heart of the Lake District National Park, Oakbank nestles in the beautiful Duddon Valley surrounded by the high fells (mountains). This is the Lake District without the crowds - just rushing rivers, sheep and stunning scenery. Favourites like Beatrix Potter's Hilltop Farm, Dove Cottage at Grasmere and lively Ambleside are just 40 minutes drive, as are Windermere and Coniston Lakes for memorable boat trips. Oakbank is also just 30 minutes from beautiful vast, sandy beaches at St Bees and Silecroft. There is golf, bike hire, riding, canoeing and the tiny Eskdale stream train nearby, and Muncaster Castle with its owl sanctuary and gardens. Wastwater, England's deepest lake under England's highest mountain is just a short drive away and is breathtaking. Nearby Broughton-in-Furness is a historic market town with excellent amenities. The old Post Office & Stores is within walking distance.of the cottage & the area has several old inns serving excellent food.

Other Activities: Climbing, canoeing, Muncaster Castle Owl Sanctuary, Eskdale miniature railway, boat trips on Coniston and Windermere, Dalston Wildlife Park, Heavy Horses Centre at Millom, riding, golf, cycling.
