About James McGunn
We are an American couple from northern California and New York; and have lived in various countries, including Canada, Singapore, Germany, Ireland and the British Virgin Islands. Of all the places in the world, we found The Villa Oasis on Great Camanoe Island has a near perfect balance of everything one would seek in a tropical environment: convenient to the mainland US, the US Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico, superb climate, unbeatable sailing and boating, clean air, clear water, spectacular scenery, US currency & time zone, and a safe environment.
James McGunn purchased this Villa in 2005
Why James McGunn chose Great Camanoe
As a consequence of moving a business from Europe to Tortola in 2005, we searched the entire BVI for the perfect island home: a private & safe location, beautiful views of the sea, walking distance to a sandy beach and private boat dock. Moreover, we wanted a home that faced the easterly trade winds. Nothing met our criteria (many sites had great views but were located way too far from the water, others lacked easy access to a boat dock, beaches and swimming areas, or had not so pleasant orientations). Finally, we found The Villa Oasis - it exceeded our expectations and had everything we were searching for, and right at the end of its driveway. After residing here for six years, the BVI will now become our part-time residence, so we are letting out the estate for others to enjoy when we are away.

Wonderful midwinter getaway!
Our stay at Villa Oasis on Great Camanoe couldn’t have been more perfect! Barbara and James accurately described the property and offered every comfort to satisfy our family beyond expectations. The house is beautifully laid out for our group of three couples, there was a fully stocked kitchen, plenty to read about exploring the area and every technology to keep us connected as necessary to the mainland. The location and climate are magical- truly a perfect place to rest and or play. Having the boat to explore was perfect for those in the group craving the blue water experience and the huge front porch excellent for hanging out, watching boats cruising by while playing games and reconnecting with family. Communication was very good with the hosts and also with the property manager Carlos. We are so happy to have had experienced BVI at the aptly named “Villa Oasis”!! Thank you
"Our family thoroughly enjoyed our week at The Villa Oasis over the Christmas holiday. The veranda at the villa immediately became our gathering place. We never tired of watching boat activity, sunrises and sunsets from this long outdoor living area with plenty of comfortable seating and a magical view of a corner of the BVI. Although the house was isolated and private, once we walked down the long driveway, we had the community dock and two beaches at our disposal.
The kitchen was well equipped and the living room and dining room allowed our group of 5 plenty of space to spread out.
Bathrooms were spacious and well stocked. Having a large outdoor grill and a washer/dryer was most appreciated.
We had many adventures on The Buckaroo (boat) and the hosts provided a detailed house guidebook about boat and house use. Trips to Trellis Bay, Marina Cay and Scrub Island were quick and easy.
I'd highly recommend this lovely and tasteful property.
Wonderful Family Vacation!
The Villa Oasis was the perfect set up for our family of five. The house is extremely comfortable and was very well stocked with amenities. We used the car to get up and down from the house to the dock and the boat every day. The Yamaha engine worked flawlessly and we had a great time island hopping the BVIs. We went to the Baths at Virgin Gorda several times including the restaurant (and fresh water pool) at the top of the Baths. We really enjoyed Cooper Island Resort which has a nice set up for docking the boat, lounging on the beach and getting some pretty tasty food and drink beach side. Our trip to Jost Van Dyke and The Soggy Dollar and Foxies was very memorable as well. Will definitely go back there on our next trip. Make sure you spend some time at the beach on Sandy Cay! For Mother's Day, we had a very nice formal dinner at the resort on Scrub Island five minutes away. We spent a lot of time at Marina Cay right across from the house as well. Here we had lunch, dinner, hung out at the beach and listened to live music. We also fund the market at Trellis Bay to be well stocked and pretty reasonable. The barbecued and jerked chicken is amazing. You can eat there or order it as take out. Overall a wonderful trip with our adult kids. I would highly recommend this property if you are "boat people" and would like exploring the BVIs on your own.
A Truly Magical Vacation
We had a wonderful family vacation at Villa Oasis on Great Camino. The house and property were beautiful. We loved the ability to take the boat to neighboring islands to snorkel, shop and have terrific dinners. I only wish we had gone earlier in the summer because some of the restaurants and shops were closed for the season. However, that didn't stop us from having a great time. Thank you so much!
The Villa Oasis is located on Great Camanoe, a private island paradise centered in a sea of islands and within 5 minutes by boat from Trellis Bay, Tortola. The sea views from the terrace (and from every room in the house) are exceptional - probably the most breathtaking in the entire Caribbean. There, I said it! And it's true. The actual setting is even more spectacular than the pictures can show. Day or night, the sights of yachts swinging at anchor or sailing through the strait, the little resort island of Marina Cay in your front yard, and the backdrop of green islands in a turquoise sea under a blue sky are stunning. The entire island of Great Camanoe is lovely and offers energetic walkers the most memorable sights of pristine bays and secluded coves. Best of all, the Villa comes with a wonderful power boat that enables you to sail about the nearby islands, snorkel over Diamond Reef just off Camanoe, stop for lunch at Marina Cay, have drinks at Scrub Island Resort, or dine along Trellis Bay or at The Last Resort on Bellamy Cay. Truly an adventure of a lifetime. The house is very relaxing and provides all the things most visitors want: very well furnished, good kitchen appliances, air con in the bedrooms, and just high enough above the water to catch the gentle tropical breezes. The Villa's Honda CRV is there if you want it for driving up and down the steep driveway to the beach and boat dock. We lived the dream and will return.
Situated on private island named Great Camanoe, the Villa Oasis is located 100 feed above the clear blue Caribbean, within steps of a quiet and private beach & boat dock. The beach sand slops gently to the sea, with calm water for safe swimming. The Villa has three air conditioned en suite bedrooms - one with king size bed and two with queen beds. Walk the island's safe and private roads in daylight or moonlight. Experience crystal clear water, teeming with tropical fish, secluded beaches with beautiful shells, morning rainbows, tropical flowers and magnificent star filled nights. World-class snorkeling and SCUBA diving within swimming distance of house. Dive facilities & lessons available on close-by Marina Cay and Scrub Island. Restaurants and beachfront bars with live music only minutes away by small boat. Boat or walk to secluded, romantic bays & coves. Explore uninhabited islands and enjoy the varied water sports: swimming; windsurfing; sailing & boating; snorkeling & SCUBA. House comes with a 18' motor boat and car, and car rentals and taxi cabs are available on Tortola, 5 min from Great Camanoe. After arriving at Tortola Airport, no need for a taxi, just walk 150 yards to dock at Trellis Bay.
