Why not is the question!
Cozy cottage perfect for a honeymoon or couples retreat. Very private setting with beautiful water frontage and views of the bay.
Just miles from Wooden Boat School!
We thoroughly enjoyed our honeymoon at Nelson Cottage! We found the cottage to be cozy and comfortable and enjoyed the proximity to the ocean and to point of interest in the region, such as Isle au Haut and Stonington. Renting a kayak through Vacation Cottages was a fabulous way to see the bay and enjoy the wildlife along the coast; bald eagles, osprey, and deer. We would most certainly return to Nelson Cottage for another relaxing vacation!
We enjoyed our week at Nelson Cottage immensely. The view from the deck, the living area, and the bedroom were spectacular. While there is mowed area surrounding the cottage, there are woods on both sides of the lawn, providing plenty of privacy. We enjoyed walking along the shoreline (wear shoes you don't mind getting muddy) and watching the shore birds (bring binoculars). I particularly enjoyed studying the critters (hermit crabs, periwinkles, crabs, worms, shrimp) in the tide pools at the base of the stairs. We like to cook most of our meals at home, and the kitchen was equipped with basic necessities (but bring any spices, etc. that you might need). We spent about every other day exploring Deer Isle, Acadia, etc. Visited the homestead of Scott and Helen Nearing, Penobscot East Resource Center, and lots more. Other days, we hung out at the cottage or poked around at local shops. Filled up on groceries (including lobsters and mussels) at Tradewinds in Blue Hill. Highly recommend.
Excellent stay. Clean and cozy. Well maintained. Enjoyed walking along rocky coast. Watched lobster man from the deck. Biking opportunities. Very good customer service. Would recommend .
The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. The view of the water from the deck was beautiful and the sunrises were spectacular. The surrounding property is densely wooded. Twice my husband and I were visited by fawns and their mothers. The cottage was a tad remote for us city folk and we had to use a car more than we would have liked. We visited the Haystack Art Center, The Wooden Boat School and many of the towns in the area. This cottage is great for a couple who are looking for a peaceful getaway in a gorgeous part of Maine.
