About this property

Historic Waterfront Home With Big Views Of The Chesapeake Bay

Foxcroft, a lovely, two story home sites on 5 acres overlooking the Nassawadox Creek and the Chesapeake Bay. This perfect Eastern Shore retreat is 45 minutes from Norfolk International Airport and an hour from Virginia Beach. The property includes a deep water pier for swimming, fishing and boating. The pier is adjacent to a public boat ramp for easy launching of your power boat, sailboat, kayaks and canoes. Or just sit on the custom benches at the end of the pier and watch the beautiful sunset over the Chesapeake Bay.

The house has a newly renovated, open concept kitchen and family room with a wood burning stove and new appliances. The dining room table seats 8 comfortably and double living rooms have plenty of space for entertaining with big water views. The custom screen porch provides additional seating and dining areas and is a wonderful retreat with ceiling fans and views of the creek.

Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The master bedroom has a king bed (can be split into two singles) and the second and third bedrooms both have two twin beds. The rooms are tastefully decorated in a casual style.

There are lots of fun, family activities on the grounds including a large outdoor picnic table looking across the water, ping pong table, corn hole and badminton. Enjoy lazy walks around the waterfront hamlet of Bayford. Explore the nearby beaches by boat, canoe or kayack or scheduled a sit seeing trip to the sea side Barrier Islands with Captain Buddy. Dive and swim off the pier or catch your dinner of crab or fish right off the pier.

Foxcoft is 5 minutes by car or creek to Chatham Vineyards where you can enjoy a tour of the vineyards and winery with a tasting room to sample their wines. The Barrier Island Center Museum is 10 minutes away and provides a wonderful history of the Eastern Shore and its residents. Signature golf courses by Palmer and Nicholas are a 20 minute drive from Foxcroft. Chincoteague Island is a 30 minute drive to enjoy the scenic town, biking trails and beaches.

It is a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the beauty of Virginia's Eastern Shore.

Scenic getaway
Overall our stay was fine as we didn’t encounter any major problems or issues. We enjoyed the pier, particularly fishing and crabbing. There is not much in the area in terms of activities, so be prepared accordingly. There were a handful of items which led to us downgrading the property as these are not clear in the listing. First, while you could possibly swim off the pier it is not recommended. The current there is very strong and is not recommended for anyone who is lot a strong swimmer. The ladder to get back up on the pier is also covered in barnacles/shells making it a bit tricky to get up. One slip, as our teen daughter learned and your foot was cut. Second, the property sits on 5 acres however there is a second guest house about 25 ft from where you are residing. This is occupied year round by Captain Buddy and Laura. No problems in this area but if you are looking for something with more privacy this could be a concern. Overall, it was a nice stay and we enjoyed our time. We may have gone in a different direction had we known that swimming would be near impossible. The fishing and crabbing were great though!

Eastern Shore Heaven
Foxcroft far exceeded our every expectation. The historic home is both beautiful and well appointed. The sunset views and wildlife watching from the dock were a highlight of our stay. The location is very peaceful and feels remote, but you're still close enough to get to the highlights of the Eastern Shore. We hope to get back here soon! And for those visiting the area for the first time, please make time to visit the Barrier Island Visitor center.

We live in Virginia Beach and spend a lot of time on the Eastern Shore. We would love to share Foxcroft with you!

Why they chose this property

I grew up vacationing on the Eastern Shore with my family and brothers. I have owned several homes on the Shore and Foxcroft was the perfect location for our family. My children have grown up spending weekends, summers and holidays there just as I did growing up.

What makes this property unique

Foxcroft is the perfect blend of a country get away with all of the modern convieniences. We fell in love with the incredible views, the tranquility and easy water access. We have renovated the houseand landscaping.
