About the property

Four storeys, 7 bedrooms, short walk to top tourist attractions

Live like a Londoner and share a postcode with the Queen! This spectacular family house, a classic London townhouse built in 1846 and quietly situated in a friendly and beautiful London terrace 10 minutes' WALK from Buckingham Palace, boasts 7 bedrooms, a sitting room, a kitchen-dining room (seats 12), a conservatory-study, 3 bathrooms + 2 separate WCs & free unlimited wi-fi throughout. With the rooms laid out on four main floors (and some mezzanines), the house works well for extended families. There are 4 x large double beds (150cm, 5'6' wide), 1 x smaller double bed (135 cm, 4"6" wide), 3 x single beds and 2 x fold-out bed-chairs. Maximum permitted occupancy is 12 people plus infants (2 x cots provided). The main rooms have ornate ceilings, marble fireplaces, chandeliers & working window-shutters yet the house is fitted with with every modern convenience: washing machine/dryer, microwave, dishwasher, hair-dryers, irons, SMART TVs in four rooms (with internet access, Netflix etc.), gas-log open fire, digital radio/sound systems with iPad, iPhone/MP3 'docks', linen/towels, books, toys, DVDs, 2 x highchairs and other baby equipment. Cozy and warm in winter, high quality fans keeps the top floors comfortable in the very hottest summer (though mostly, this being London, they're not needed). Outside there’s a suntrap terrace leading from the kitchen, plus a delightful patio garden wreathed in jasmine and wisteria. A great sports centre with public-access gym and swimming pools is a two minute walk from the house, as are a wide range of grocery stores and other local shops, banks, a post-office, beauty salons and so on..

We keep the house in immaculate condition, constantly re-painting to remove scuff marks and renewing furniture and accessories regularly. Guests frequently comment on our level of cleanliness and attention to detail. A welcome pack of groceries greets you on arrival.

We pride ourselves on the fact that the house is imaginatively decorated and laid out in such a way that there are great opportunities for privacy, as well as for all members of the household to meet together sociably.

The location of this wonderful house is unbeatable. Although it is situated in the very heart of London, it is quietly positioned. The area is very safe and well served in every possible way. The neighbouring streets are full of great local shops (including supermarkets - open all hours - and specialist delicatessans), cafes and restaurants. At one end of the street is a local food market; at the other, under two minutes' walk from the house, is Pimlico Underground ('Tube') Station and terrific local bus routes. From the house it is just a short stroll to Victoria Station, Tate Britain, the Thames, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Cathedral, St James’ Park, Battersea Park, Downing Street, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Several theatres, too, and a beautiful new cinema are within easy walking distance, and it is only a short tube/bus/taxi ride (or you can walk) to Hyde Park, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Oxford Street, Piccadilly Circus, the West End, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, the National Gallery, the National Theatre, the National Film Theatre, the Festival Hall, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, the London Eye, the London Aquarium and other main London attractions. There are easy transport links to all London airports and mainline stations, and London and regional bus tours. For those who like to run or jog, there are great routes along the River Thames and through the historic local streets and parks.

This spectacular house is brilliantly located for special annual London events, including - within WALKING distance - all Royal Family celebrations, the Chelsea Flower Show , the London Marathon (finishing line), the New Year's Day Parade, the Lord Mayor's Procession & Show, the Russian Winter Festival, outdoor skating ,the Chinese New Year celebrations, Trooping of the Colour, Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Thames Festival, the Chelsea Antiques Fair, the State Opening of Parliament, the London Film Festival, Guy Fawkes Night, the main New Year Celebrations, Christmas Lighting Celebrations and Westminster Abbey for Christmas Carols and all Royal Family celebrations.

Within a short tube/bus ride you'll reach the London International Boat Show, the Olympia Fine Art & Antique Fair, Wimbledon, the Holiday and Travel Show, Party in the Park, the Proms at the Albert Hall, the Covent Garden Festival of Street Theatre, the Notting Hill Carnival - and many others major cultural and sporting events. Wimbledon is an easy tube-ride away, as is Wembley Stadium.

About Adrienne Burgess

We are a couple who have worked mainly in the theatre and the arts, although Adrienne is now a writer/researcher specialising in fatherhood and Martin coaches in communications.

Adrienne Burgess purchased this house in 1985

Why Adrienne Burgess chose Pimlico

We purchased our central London home in 1985 and lived there until 2002. The moment we opened the door we loved it. It felt then, and feels now, as if only happy things have happened here - which can't possibly be true, since it's almost 170 years since it was built! We wanted to live right in the heart of London, and you can't get much closer to the heart than this. We also wanted a spacious house, with high ceilings and a sense of generations upon generations of people living there before us. And that is exactly what we got! We raised our family here, working from home, so the house has always been busy and full of children. When we left it, and downshifted to another part of London, we rejoiced that we didn't have to sell it, and that other people could now enjoy it too.

What makes this house unique

The remarkable thing about 'Pimlico' (the area in the London Borough of Westminster in which our house is), is that it is quite like a village, and yet it is right in the heart of perhaps the greatest city in the world. Neighbours know each other; our quiet street contains many family houses and has an active residents' association, the people in the shops are friendly, and yet it's cosmopolitan and fast-paced. In Pimlico you can be peaceful, yet never feel that life is passing you by.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have travelled from Australia and New Zealand for our daughter’s wedding – three generations. We had a wonderful time. The weather was great and the wedding went off without a hitch. The house of course made it all so easy. Just right for all our family and so wonderfully well equipped! We loved Pimlico (the local area – Owner) – so handy to everything!

Great Home for Stay in London with Large Family

  • 5 of 5

Eleven of us comprising three generations spent 8 days at 112 Tachbrook Street during Christmas week 2017. The number of bedrooms, some large and some small, allowed us to be together at times, but also retreat for breaks from touring and interacting to some solitude. Important when you are intensively on the streets of London for many hours each day. And constantly in the presence of even your beloved family. Kids could take a break with their IPads or phones. Adults could take a nap!

The house is conveniently located to both the Underground at Pimlico Station, and in walking distance of some tourist sites like The British Museum and Tate Modern. We also walked to the center of London on temperate days to the Eye, various open markets like Burroughs, Parliament buildings, Churchill War Rooms, Big Ben, Tower Bridge andWestminster Abby.

It is easy to get comfortable with the Tube.

By the way, should mention that taking the subway from Heathrow to Pimlico at a cheap 6 pounds can be a good alternative to a 50 pound cab ride or Uber, if there are just two or three of you.

We enjoyed a number of good restaurants in the neighborhood: Pubs, Italian, Thai, French.

Be sure to have morning coffee and excellent pastries at Gail's Bakery down Tachbrook and left around the corner while you are here. Nice alternative to making breakfast.

Grocery stores in walking distance.

The house was clean, up to date. Adrienne stocked the kitchen with some goodies and essentials like dishwasher detergent. The neighborhood was quiet. We Americans probably caused the only noise to our neighborhood as we walked down the street with the kids.

Probably the greatest compliment I can give to Adrienne is that during our eight day stay we NEVER had to contact her even once about any problems or issues, because there weren't any.

Good job, Adrienne!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely and COMPREHENSIVE review! You were delightful guests. We are particularly thrilled that you took the opportunity to walk round London so much, even in mid-winter, and that all of you took so much advantage of what London has to offer. We'd love to welcome you back any time!

Fantastic Property, Great Owner and Perfect for Large Family Gatherings

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the property for a week long trip to London for Spring Break and it was wonderful! When we booked, the owner went out of her way to make sure all arrangements were properly made, including providing extensive material about the property, surrounding area, restaurants, transportation, etc... When we arrived, there was some food waiting for us, including a bottle of wine. The place itself looks even better than the photographs. the kitchen is completely modernized with an excellent stove, oven, refrigerator and fully stocked dishes and cookware. The place was extremely well kept, with all bedrooms nicely prepared for our arrival. The place itself is very close to a tube station (2 minute walk) and is central to all of the things in central London. On my first full day, I walked along the River Thames to Parliament and Westminster Abbey (Longer walk, but very doable). As far as restaurants, I would suggest the Queen's Arms which is 3 blocks away or Cask Pub and Kitchen that is 1 block away (2 minute walk). There is a great Thai restaurant 1 block away. There is also Wilton Street that has numerous restaurants. The grocery stores are a quick 10 minute walk. Gails Bakery is only two blocks away. I would not delay booking the place. We booked several months out. I think it is leased pretty quickly.

londown townhouse

  • 5 of 5

Historic property in central London. It is well furnished and very comfortable, there are no maintenance issues, the owner is meticulous about keeping the flat in excellent repair. This is a very well organized rental, there is nothing that the owner has not prepared for his guests including laminated notes as reminders where needed. The kitchen has new appliances, the dining room is comfortable and a sitting area has large comfortable couches and tele. There are numerous restaurants, bakeries, wine shops in the area. The Pimlico underground station is an easy four to five minute walk. Great area and would be difficult to beat if you need the room and rooms as advertised. A word of caution, read the given instructions carefully, they run a smooth tight organization and expect the same from their guests. Would definitely return .

Phenominal vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

This house is exactly what you are looking for in a family vacation home. There was not one missing detail. It is a lovely home with amazing owners. Anything I asked for was accommodated and they even decorated the home for Xmas for my daughter. This house has everything you can think of for a family. The photos really don’t do the property justice. I plan on staying here with my family whenever we come back to central London. We were lucky enough to see it snow and have a wonderful holiday in London. Thank you so much for your warm welcome.

Owner's Response: And thank you so much for being such warm and appreciative guests. You left a lovely atmosphere in the house! We do hope to welcome you again. And - by the way - there WAS one thing missing which you suggested we might have at the house: a 'cane' (or 'walking stick' as we call them here). Well - you will be glad to know it's on its way! I'm taking one to the house tomorrow! So when you come back, hopefully you will find it there!

As advertised- very cozy!

Great location! Easy access to most things. My only complaint is the

Master bedroom was a disappointment. Shower conditions needs to be reconfigured so you can actually take a shower in the master. Otherwise all was as offered.

Super location, charming house!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and extended family stayed for a week. (10 of us!) The location is amazing - you can walk to Pimlico station, the bus on Belgrave or Victoria station. We often walked to and from sight seeing (like Buckingham Palace or one of the many nearby parks.) Great local pubs, restaurants and grocery stores within a few minutes' walk.

Minor Downside: the street side can be noisy and the neighbors behind you like to stay up and enjoy their company. However, every guidebook I read noted that London, like most big cities, can be pretty loud. So, you will get a "city" experience.

The house was clean, the rooms and set up were as advertised. The new lower level rooms and toilets/showers were wonderful! This was very comfortable and "homey"! Would absolutely recommend it!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review - we are so pleased you enjoyed the house. You noticed noise, we think, because the weather has been so hot that you will have had most of the windows wide open. Londoners have undoubtedly been celebrating in the streets to make the most of the longest spell of 30+ temperatures since 1976!
