A tranquil hideaway on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific ocean between Ventura and Santa Barbara, just above world famous Rincon Point, and minutes from the seaside town of Carpinteria and its "World's Safest Beach."
Rancho Mesa Escondida (Hidden Mesa) is a working organic avocado and citrus ranch with lush orchards and beautiful views of the ocean, canyons, and mountains. Spanish-style home owned by the family for 4 generations was built by master adobero Pete Aquilar with adobe soil from the site and is furnished with Spanish antiques. The house and gardens provide a private, peaceful setting for a writer, artist, bird watcher, business team, family, or small group seeking a quiet getaway close to town. Maximum occupancy of 6.
Note: No events are allowed at this property.
INSIDE THE HOUSE
A long driveway winds through fruit trees to the home. Step through the front door into the living area with antique furnishings below vaulted ceilings. Couch seating for 8 surrounds a wood fireplace, and a dining area drenched with light from a long wall of sliding glass doors seats 6.
Outside, a patio with outdoor dining enjoys views across the Pacific Ocean and Los Padres mountain range.
In the kitchen, find new stainless steel appliances, wood countertops, and original cabinetry. Plenty of space and lovely views makes cooking light work!
The 1st bathroom has a walk-in shower and single farm-style vanity. It serves bedroom 2, where you’ll find a king bed and Spanish antiques.
If you value privacy, the master bedroom answers your wish: it has windows looking at the sea and is slightly detached from the main house with one connecting hall. There’s a king bed, antique furnishings including a Moroccan birdcage, and an armoire with your own TV.
Curl up on the sofa, sit and write at the desk, or step out to the yard from a private door. An en-suite bathroom has a shower/tub combo.
Bedroom 3 is separate, accessed through glass sliding doors, and hosts 2 twin beds, a couch, and an original desk. It too has an en-suite walk-in shower.
Outside, a large pool is surrounded by Adirondack deck chairs, and a pathway leads to the vegetable gardens. Set on 18 acres of avocado trees, there’s no shortage of space here! There is an additional charge to heat the pool, $50 per day.
A laundry room on site is available for use, but it’s a shared facility, so plan accordingly.
Rincon Beach Park is just moments away, just below the ranch is popular with surfers, but you can swim, picnic, explore tide pools, or birdwatch too. Head to the nearby Carpinteria Bluffs Nature Preserve, where you’ll find hiking trails and scenic overlooks with views of harbor seals. And Carpinteria’s restaurants, shops, and “World’s Safest Beach” are just a 3 minute drive away.
You can be in Santa Barbara in 15 minutes—visit Stearns Wharf, the zoo, and the beach—or head inland to Ojai, 20 miles away, for art galleries, forest trails, and the Classical Music Festival. Ventura is also a quick drive down the 101.
Please note that the rental area is a full house, but the 3rd bedroom shares a wall, with no pass through, to another occupied apartment. The expansive grounds and working farm are maintained by employees during the day, and the owners live in a separate house on the property.
