Amazing property!

  • 5 of 5

Anne was excellent to deal with and the cabin and property were awesome. We had a great time around the fireplace and the sunsets were gorgeous. Highly recommend this location if you are looking to decompress and unplug for a while. Close to Galax, the Rex Theater, and Creek Bottom Brewing.

Great family fun!

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family of 12, 6 adults and 6 kids ranging from 4 months to 12 years old had an absolute blast in this house! Everything you'd ever need is provided! The weather wasn't great but despite the rain and high winds we made the most of our time on the property. the tire swing and fireplace provided priceless memories! Board games where a hit with the kids and the front porch was a hit with the adults. There is plenty of space for a large group similar to our size. The last day there the weather cleared and the views were stunning! Anne was extremely responsive to my emails and very accommodating. I'd take her recommendations about the directions and driveway, it was rough but our 4WD did fine. The instructions were spot on though I created ones with even more detail for my late 70s inlaws. A few things we noted were the very strong winds, not sure it that is normal becuase you're so high up or becuase of th unusual weather but it did impact the kids sleeping upstairs, it was very, very noisy at night and hard for them to sleep through. We carried up a lot of wood from the stack behind the house. This didn't pose a problem for us becuase we had so many hands but if there are only a few of you getting wood on the deck earlier in the day would be more ideal. Again, weather dependent, it was around 45 degrees in the evenings while we where there. Cell service is minimal and spotty but we managed to get a signal here and there. The house phone was a lifesaver, we were able to connect with family traveling later to give more details on location and keep in touch with dog sitter back home. There is wifi but it's a bit slower. I'd suggest taking the opportunity to really unplug while visiting this home, it provides the perfect setting to remove yourself of the hustle and bustle of everyday life. No one had devices glued to their face. We made great meals and truly enjoyed much needed family time together. We hope to come back in the spring or summer to fully enjoy the outdoors a bit more. Thanks to Anne for being such a welcoming home owner!

Outstanding Property

  • 5 of 5

The house has great attention to detail that comes from years of development. The best aspect about the cabin is its remoteness. It is absolutely peaceful. The property boasts great rocks. The large rock in front of the house has a gap below. If you play guitar or sing at the rock the sound is a natural stone theatre that fills the valley with sound. There were many smart things- the stone area when you walked in for groceries; the quality windows and doors; the hinges, the front porch, the back porch, the view from the lounge chairs- we took the Jeep to Hale Lake to trout fish- great off road experience. Other cool things- temperature variation; stars at night; wildlife- early in the morning heard Elk nearby; also had a groundhog make a run past us when we arrived. Very cool. Highly recommend.

A great place to get away

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I came up to visit her 6 year old grandson. We brought him here to spend some quality time with him. We certainly got that! The cabin is wonderful. The weather was cool enough we got to use the wood burning fireplace. It is huge. The kitchen is extremely well stock with everything you would need. And, the gas grill was great for making grilled chicken and hamburgers. The beds were comfortable as was the seating in the living room area. Which I might add was huge too! My great nephew and I spent time roaming around the grounds and finding wild blackberries. The wildlife was abundant: turkeys, deer, rabbits, squirrels and even an occasional hummingbird. The owner was very nice and helpful. Would highly recommend for a get away whether family or couple. Oh, the front porch is a great place to sit and read!

Charming lodging in a beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I couldn't have been happier with our choice to spend the July 4th weekend here. The cabin exceeded all of our expectations. The view is amazing and there are lot of fun things to do in the nearby parks and lovely towns, but it was all the little details that really set this place apart. The decor is rustic and charming. We arrived to fresh cut flowers in the kitchen and plenty of firewood (an extra good thing, because despite being July, the nights were pretty chilly up there). There were more than enough clean towels, books, and games, and the kitchen was stocked with all the tools you'd ever need to whip up a big country dinner. The property manager, Fred, was super friendly and easy to work with. Overall, we definitely felt very well taken care of through our interactions with Fred and by all the care that was obviously taken in the upkeep of the cabin. We'd surely stay here again in the future -- it was well worth the drive from Washington, DC (which, I should add, is a beautiful one).
