Overview

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Indre-et-Loire - La Roche d'Enchaille

Once the farm to the Châteaux de Cussay

La Roche d'Enchaille is a barn conversion located between the medieval market towns of Ligueil and Descartes; ideally positioned for exploring the Loire Valley and its Châteaux. Set in to a hillside with a wood behind, La Roche d'Enchaille enjoys uninterrupted views of the surrounding rolling farmland and woodlands. The accommodation is a careful restoration and conversion of the farm to the Châteaux de Cussay, this dates back to 1268 when the first record of the châteaux can be traced as being sold to Guy the Doyen of St Martin. The main West-facing wall is formed from the original châteaux ramparts and vestiges of these are present through out the grounds as well as entrances to caves and tunnels. The locals swear there is a tunnel linking La Roche d’Enchaille with the Church in the centre of Cussay some 5 km away. The châteaux had several roles during its long history, including operating as a mint striking coinage back in the 16th century and more recently as a “Relais de Post'.

Fabulous holiday in beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

We have recently returned from 10 days stay at La Roche d'Enchaille. There were 6 adults and 2 small children in our party, and the gite catered for all of our needs. Everything we needed was right there for us; a superbly stocked kitchen, plenty of living space and beds for everyone. We were particularly impressed with the range of toys and books for our two children, aged 3 and 6. The house was perfect for the children with a huge amount of outdoor space, boules pitch, table tennis, darts, bikes etc. The gite has been restored to a very high standard, was very clean and the owners Garth & Elizabeth were on hand to assist whenever required without being obtrusive. Buster the friendly dog was a big hit with the kids too! Plenty of places nearby to visit; however we were just as happy to relax at the house. The sunsets over the surrounding fields are amazing! We would not hesitate in recommending it to others. Thank you Garth & Elizabeth for a most enjoyable holiday.

Fantastic stay!

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic location and superbly equipped accommodation. The downstairs bedroom and shower room were particularly appreciated by my elderly mother. She lovely the fact that there was no step into the shower and the non-slip shower tray and described it as 'a luxury wet room which I will miss'. The kitchen was equipped to a high standard with a massive cooker, very good dishwasher and fridge. Upstairs bedrooms were very comfortable. Lots of lovely touches such as freshly laundered napkins, lovely cotton sheets with lots of pillows, piles of towels and bath mats, fresh flowers, etc. the terrace was lovely to sit on to watch the owl, kestrels, swallows, bantams, and the cows in the field. Buster is quite a character and we miss him already! Liz and Garth are great hosts and very attentive, whilst at the same time letting us feel we were totally on our own and we loved the peace and tranquility. Shops were close by and also great access to the road network which made the journey so simple. The only thing we would change would be the length of the stay - it was far too short - and we would have liked to have missed the gale in the English Channel on the way home!

Absolutely beautiful.

  • 5 of 5

The property was gorgeous set in a wonderful location and providing everything we could wish for and more, the best equipped holiday home we have ever stayed in. We had a week of happiness , sunshine , and spectacular sunsets viewed from the terrace with local wine in hand, perfect. We would highly recommend it and hope to return ourselves soon.

Beautiful house in peaceful location.

  • 5 of 5

This is the best house we have stayed in over many years taking holidays in France. It is in a very peaceful location amid fields of sunflowers and owls and other birds of prey seen from the garden.

The house is spacious, bright and comfortable and very well equipped throughout. The indoor games area with table tennis and darts and the boules pitch outside and the large selection of bicycles were well used.

Garth and Liz were the perfect hosts steeping in as needed but otherwise staying in the background. Buster (the dog) was great company.

Shops and places to visit were not far away. We particularly enjoyed visiting Leonardo da Vinci's last residence at Chateau du Clos Luce was well worth a visit.

Beautiful property in a peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

We spent a delightful week in probably the best equipped and presented property that we have had the fortune to rent. It was just like having all the comforts of home but with beautiful sunshine and a view over fields of sunflowers. Garth and Liz were two friendly and helpful hosts and the infamous Buster visited every morning and evening to check how we were.

Descartes and Loches are both close by and most of the main Chateaux are easily reachable. Particular mentions of places to visit would have to go to Chenonceau, Chambord, Amboise and Parc Beauval (Pandas!).

All in all, highly recommended. Many Thanks.

Beautiful house in a wonderful setting

  • 5 of 5

Had a week here with my family of 5 and had a fantastic time. The house is beautiful, spacious, charming and well equiped and was the central part of a fantastic holiday. The region has so much to offer and following a coffee in the sun on the terrace overlooking the acres of sunflowers it was hard to choose between any of the fantastic options all within an hours drive or to stay in the farm house and relax with only the sound of farm activity, happy children and the metalic clank of the petanque balls !!! Would stay again in a heart beat and cannot recommend this property highly enough.
