Peace and Perfection in a beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is perfect for a couple wanting peace and quiet in a lovely, sleepy village. A car is a must because there is only one taverna in the village but the small seaside town of Kolymbari with shops and lovely restaurants is an easy five minute drive away.

The cottage is very cool, clean, very well equipped and the pool and private garden are beautiful. Manilos and his parents Yiannis and Katerina are a lovely family with a warm welcome and Manilos definitely goes the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need including helpful tips about the area, restaurants, beaches to visit etc.

Thank you to Manolis for the fresh fruit, yogurt, wine, Raki and all the other extras provided for us when we arrived. We felt very well looked after during our stay but nothing intrusive. The garden is lovely and private and Manolis just checked that we were okay every couple of days.

If we had to pick anything on the downside , be aware that there is a church next to the cottage and the clock does chime the hour but not during the night and this would not stop us returning. We did get used to it during our stay.

A perfect place to explore Western Crete.

We have only been back a day and we are already trying to plan when we can go back to Crete to our little piece of paradise.

Idyllic beautiful cottage and peaceful surrounds

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks staying at this beautiful cottage which was so perfect we hardly moved from the side of the pool for the first week, except for our daily frappe at Mylos Cafe in nearby Kolymbari (10 mins in car).

Manolis provides the perfect service (and more), with a never ending welcome pack (of fresh products eggs, honey, sweet stuff and fruit from his land), information about the local area and trips around the west of the island. Everything you need is provided from towels for the pool to shampoos, moisturisers and regular changes of bedding etc.

The local Taverna in the village (2 min walk) serves very good food and is also very reasonably priced, needless to say we enjoyed 5 or 6 meals there and were never fed up of going back.

For sea food we would highly recommend the Dictina restaurant in Kolymbari, another one of Manolis's tips.

Love this place

  • 5 of 5

Myself ,partner and 10 yr old daughter stayed in Yiannis 's Cottage for two weeks at the beginning of August. We had a wonderfully relaxing holiday whilst staying in this property.

It was lovely, airy and clean and in a beautiful location.

A fridge full of goodies from their farm welcomed us when we arrived.

The pool in the pretty garden was amazing and used constantly.

It was lovely sitting outside at night, listening to and watching all the wildlife(there was a regular owl that would swoop through the garden every night).

Manolis was brilliant and looked after us very well whilst we were there, bringing us fresh eggs a and vegetables from the farm and supplying us with lots of useful information on how to get to places and best tavernas , trips and beaches etc.

The local taverna serves tasty local food.

The village is well placed to visit the famous beaches and we took a taxi to beautiful Hania for the day and had a great meal in the old town( Tamam..don't forget to book..very popular!)

You will need a car to appreciate the area .

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place and was very sad to leave.

A wonderful holiday home!

  • 5 of 5

Villa Yiannis is owned by a very welcoming family who went out of their way to make sure we were happy and comfortable throughout our stay. On arrival we were greeted by Manolis, Yiannis the owners son, who showed us around the villa and had filled the fridge with food to get us started. Breakfast items of home grown fruits, freshly laid eggs, yogurt, juice, coffee etc, homemade olive oil, wine and raki! A very thoughtful and helpful touch when we arrived late on Saturday night.

The villa is well equipped with kitchen items, tv, DVD player, lots of books, a great shower and lovely cool air conditioning. The outdoor area is beautifully taken care of with lots of flowers, a lovely olive tree to sit under when you need a little shade, plenty of tables and chairs and shady spots to read a book or enjoy some food. There is also a bbq so you can cook by the pool.

The pool area is very private and has an incredible view of the opposite side of the valley. Although there are some other villas near by it is always very quiet and we never heard any one.

Locally there is a mini supermarket which is also open on Sunday a short drive away. A really great taverna 2 minutes walk away serving lots of homemade dishes with local foods. Friendly staff, great food and low prices had us returning numerous times over our 2 week holiday.

The villa is situated really well in the quiet village of spilia which is 30-40 minutes from Chania airport. It is a great spot to easily visit the many beautiful beaches of western Crete.

Manolis was a great help in giving us tips on which beaches, sights and restaurants to go to. Our favourite meals and beaches were all his recommendations so make sure to ask for tips! The personal touches and welcoming nature of the Cretan people really made our holiday special - especially that of Manolis and his family. You are welcomed like old friends and treated like family. We look forward to a return visit in the future!

Lovely property

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful stay at this superb cottage! Quite easy to reach, using the owner's route indications. Very nice people, always there to help and make your stay as confortable as possible. They even offered us a cretan dinner with products from their own garden (delicious!). There is a nice taverna just 50 m down the road which had the best food we had during our stay. Being awaken by the Sunday morning bells (there is a church just next to the property) was not as bad as expected, actually quite entertaining :-)) There's, also, a very friendly grey cat which comes to your door, every now and then, asking for food (but not intruding!) called Miu.

Overall, we would definitely recommend to have an extended stay, if possible. We might return next year!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your nice comments. It was really my pleasure to meet you . You are a grate couple , you smile all the time , i really wish you to be like this all your life. You left the house in excellent condition, i though that the housecleaner went before me ( but she hadn't came yet). I am really happy to hear that you had a good time in our property and at the region.... As I told you from the first day it is very difficult to explore the region in 8 days so...You need to come back!!! Miu the cat is looking for you... I really hope we will have the opportunity to meet you again!! Many wishes to both of you!! Manolis

A lovley quite hideaway

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed here for the Last 6 years. So that should give you an idea of what I think of this Cottage.

Over the last few years there has been a nice Change in side with a new " walk in wet shower room " and a altomatic washing machine. The crockery and cutlery are well looked after. This year there was a new Coffee machine and sandwich toaster. The property is ALWAS spotlessly clean. There have been a lot of changes out side. The pine trees had a problem and died so were cut down, but new screening and planing of new trees c

Keeps this lovely out side screened. The pool is lovely. Just right for the early morning dip strait out of bed !!!

The family are very nice, and over the years we have been good friends.

Your privacy is ALWAS respected as they ALWAS call out and wait for an answer before coming onto the property wile you are there. So what else can I say apart from its booked for next year.

Iv been coming to Crete for over 20 years now and this cottage is my favourite.

Spila is located on the edge of the plain of Chania 2 km from Kolymvari, 22km from Chania city-centre and 35 km from the airport of Chania. The village is near the junction with the national road which allows access to Chania in less than 20 minutes. Close by, there are 1 small mini market and a bigger one (2 minutes drive) where you will find provisions; fresh bread, fruit and vegetables and indispensable articles. You can also order by phone and the owner of the mini market can bring anything you need at the Cottage!!!

The village of Spilia is named after the Cave of Ai-Yiannis Erimiti which is to be found in the west part of the village on the hill above the Villa (1 km away), on an impressive site of great historical importance and exceptional views of the olives groves, the sea and the White Mountains.

The Cave of St John the Hermit looks like an oblong arcade. Its length is about 135 meters and the scientists believe that it is essentially a prehistoric river bed.

The history of the cave is associated with the ascetic life of the hermit John, since he lived there – according to researchers – in the 6th century.

A short distance away from the Villa (100m away) is situated a dense vegetation of extremely high Plane Trees, that are centuries old.

Under the trees is a very pleasant and local tavern which offers traditional food.

In charming Kolymvari (5 minutes by car) you will find the Iera Moni Gonias Monastery and the Orthodox Academy of Crete.

In the village there are many pleasant tavernas, restaurants and kafenions, a post office, a medical center, a supermarket and bank / ATM’s.

The area is famous for its fish, landed fresh daily from the harbour, the fragrant wine of the Kissamos area and the awarded olive oil with it’s low acidity rate.

Spilia village is ideally located for you to visit the most important coasts of Crete, the well-known Falassarna with the immense sandy beach, the ancient town and the enchanting lagoon of Elafonisi, attractions awarded by international organizations for their clearness and the multi coloured sand formations. In the wider area is set the beautiful lagoon of Balos at Gramvousa where you can enjoy all the tints of blue and green.

Night-life, beach bars, wind-surfing and other extreme sports can be found in abundance all in the Platanias area which is not far away.

The famous Samaria Gorge, and many other wonderful Gorges & walks in the countryside are another option.

We can also offer you several sevices::Car rentals, Transfers,Excursions to Samaria gorge or other gorges, guided walks,4X4 safari to Balos,Cooking services and Cretan cooking lessons, Spa, treatments, etc
