Overview

About the property

Sleeps 10, Modern, grassy lawn, weed-free waterfront family vacation home

Family friendly, child safe! 70 minutes from Toronto on a quiet private road. All the luxuries of home (with excellent wifi), but with the ease & relaxation of cottage life. Bedding & bathroom towels are just some of the amenities included, we try to take care of all the little details so you can come, un-pack and cottage!

Lakefield Cottage is situated on maintained grassy, level land (almost an acre in size) with no stairs needed to get to the clear, weed-free, sandy (great sand), gradual entry, crystal clear water. A Primrose Lake location (Trent-waterway system) provides sheltered swimming and ample boat protection behind an island and large rock shoals. Explore the shoals with snorkels and try a hand at excellent local bass fishing (many bass live under our dock). At the end of a side road off Hwy 29, you will find the Lakefield Cottage located half way along a private road surrounded by mature sugar maple trees and hedging. We do have neighbours but you cannot directly see them because of hedging and strategic building locations. A quick 5 minuted drive or boat ride away brings you to town for LCBO, groceries, fantastic local restaurants, and Kawartha Dairy Ice-cream.

Details:

This ranch style, year-round, cottage faces East for beautiful sunrises off the dock and is nestled in a nice quiet bay of family cottages and seasonal homes. Parents of young children or those who find rocky or hilly terrain challenging appreciate the gentle and rock-free land with easy water access. The gently sloping, sand beach, beside the 40’ long x 6’ wide cedar wood dock, is a perfectly shaded spot for afternoon swims or splashing. The very well maintained, private cottage road has private woods and grassy fields offering privacy and an ideal area for walking, hiking, jogging and biking. We rarely have a pothole on the road, it is meticulously maintained by a resident of the road. A packed sand and gravel driveway leads to a cement-parking pad and offers ample parking and easy access to the cottage making loading and unloading a breeze!

The cottage is approximately 1500 square feet. There are 3 bedrooms in total. On the main floor you will find two bedrooms. The Master bedroom has a pillow top King size bed with double closet, TV, private deck access, and faces the water. Bedroom Two has one Queen size bed with double closet (and is the darkest for daytime naps). Upstairs is a HUGE bedroom with 50" TV & DVD, 2 Double beds, a bunk bed (single over double) AND a Disco Ball.

The spacious main floor, four piece, washroom is tiled for convenience and cleanliness (separate shower, bath tub, toilet, and vanity). The laundry room provides a front load washer and dryer or choose the huge clothes line. The custom Maple kitchen is huge with a dishwasher, glass cook top stove, microwave, stainless steel fridge, gas BBQ and every cooking necessity imaginable. The dining area and open concept living room with 2 couches and multiple bean bags make for cozy nights. The exterior is board and batten. The interior walls are drywall with Maple floors throughout. Large windows and a large ceiling fans help to circulate the air and keep the cottage comfortable in the summer and winer. Water supply is drawn from the lake and purified by a UV water filtration system, there is also a water cooler in the kitchen.

The kitchen area includes a huge 18 foot long counter with a stainless steel sink, maple cupboards, a new refrigerator, stove and dishwasher. Two skylights in the living room provide wonderful natural light as does the French doors leading to the kitchen deck and patio table.

The nice sized living area has picture windows with a view of the deck and lakefront beyond. Also included are a large flat screen TV with Apple TV (you need an Apple TV Account), DVD/Blu-ray Player, and a wii unit. The TV in the upstairs bedroom also has an HDMI port.

Appliances and electronics include fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, TV and DVD players.

There are several marina's in the area for boat rentals.

Primrose Lake is a clean, healthy lake located just outside of Lakefield approximately 10 minutes North Peterborough. The fishing and swimming are excellent. The lake contains small and large mouth bass (guarantee a catch off the dock) walleye, and some carp. The depth is about 15 feet on average and as much as 20 feet deep in some spots. There are two islands (Big and Small), one protects our beachfront and the other is fun to explore. There is no marina on our section of the water but there is a boat launch if you have a motorboat. We frequently see deer, heron, ducks, loons, beaver and turtles. The closest towns are Lakefield, Bridgenorth and Peterborough.

Outside you will find a pool table and piano in the garage, a HUGE bonfire pit down by the water, croquet, ladder ball, and a King size hammock at the waters edge. There are also 3 kayaks for you to enjoy as well as other water toys and floats.

We aim to make you cottage stay as easy and convenient as possible.

About Lesley Rocklin

We are a family of 5 (this photo is from 2006) who absolutely love being at the cottage. For us, the Lakefield cottage is a delightful, quiet retreat close enough to the City without long lines of traffic or isolation when you run out of eggs or bacon. Our children have grown up here and they, along with their friends, have formed life long friendships with people on the water and in town.

My husband and I met just down the river at Trent University and were thrilled when the opportunity presented to purchase this home. We look forward sharing this special place with you and your children.

We look forward to welcoming you and hope that every time you come to the cottage your memories are wonderful.

Why Lesley Rocklin chose Peterborough

Lakefield offers a quiet place to explore water, and trails without the stress of the 400 highway and cramped properties on conjested lakes. My husband and I were introduced to the Kawartha area while still in high school, through friends, and fell in love with its many lakes and restaurants.

Our cottage is about a 20 minute drive to Warsaw Caves, the majestic trees and massive boulders of this Glacial scratched land will take your breath away. The history of Lakefield: a Cement Factory, the railway, and the massive undertaking to build the Trent Waterway provides a rich, vibrant, story for authors, painters and sculptors. Our property is also a little famous, with Canadian Rock Stars, NHL Hockey Players and even an artist calling this property home at one time or another.

What makes this cottage unique

I love and long for my morning coffee on the master bedroom deck at about 6am, the sun is just peeking over the trees across the water. Some mornings, when the air is cooler than the water, the fog reminds me of a great Camelot story. Taking a kayak out to explore the river, seeing the loons, and watch the sun rise is an unfound experience anywhere else.

My husband loves our huge bonfire pit. He collects all the recycling he can and the property is usually twig free because the chance to sit along side the water from dusk to the early morning hours, with a cold beer in a large chair, with a "Fire Stick" to stoke the flames is all he really wants!

Our family had a wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cottage for our sister/sister annual get together (2 families of 4, with kids between the ages of 11-15), along with a dog, and we had a great time. Tons of fish to catch right off the dock, lots of water toys, and the water was so clear that you could see the bottom. The beds were very comfortable, and the entire family could easily sit in the living room for movie nights! Lesley made us feel relaxed and at home, and even sent good recommendations on local restaurants beforehand. We're hoping to come back another year!

Owner's Response: Adrienne, I am so glad you chose to have your Sister/Sister family mix at our Lakfield Cottage the summer. It was a pleasure to meet you and show you around, while answering any questions and giving "You Should Know" tips about the cottage and the area. One of the fantastic features that we love about our cottage is that it easily fits 2 families and is perfect for older children who want a bit of "their own space" upstairs in the "Kid Zone". Last year, we had a family who had Boys Upstairs (Dads too) and Girls Downstairs - something about bathroom and pool table rights! We are very fortunate to have such great water front for both fishing and swimming. I hope you got a chance to use the bon fire pit with a beer or three and fall asleep at least once in the hammock. You and your extended family are welcome to come back when the time suits you. Lakefield Cottage is in our family to stay! Thank you for the kind words and I look forward to hosting you again another time. -Lesley

Brought our family (4 kids ranging from 7-18) and the end of the summer. It had tons of space for us all and so much to do. Safe swimming, quiet and easy access to launch our boat (very close by) got to kayak and again was very peaceful. Tons of parking. Great flat outdoor space, great for families. Loved the kids group space upstairs.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words, your family is lovely and we enjoy having you. Mi Casa et sous Casa! The note from your youngest was so sweet, I promise more jumbo marshmallows next time you join us. I am glad that the fishing rod we found under a bed was safely returned to your daughter! We hope to see you next year.

Our family stay

  • 5 of 5

Was asked to submit a review after our family stay and was pleased to do this.

Lovely home on the water with quiet neighbours for our August week away on the water.

We had one of our older parents with us which turned out perfectly here. The land is very easy to manoeuvre on for seniors as it is very level, a big bonus. Water was not only warm but had great access to get in on two sides of the property and was sandy which is a plus. Kids hate weeds and mucky water and this was not at all like that.

Fantastic kitchen to cook in, lots of space and lovely bedrooms. We took the room overlooking the water which was gorgeous to wake up to.

Loved the place and are booked again for Aug 2017.

On vacation in under 2 hours. Best place ever

  • 5 of 5

The Lakefield Cottage is on a quiet, safe and secluded road and is very easy to get to.

My family tried this place for the first time 5 years ago and have booked in with Lesley every year since. The two main floor bedrooms are perfect. My husband and I loved the deck off the master bedroom, the sun rises are spectacular. My Mother In Law joined us for four nights she was very comfortable using her walker to navigate inside the house. Lesley even provided a shower chair for her to use.

The cottage is very clean and organized, with all the details covered. Cozy blankets, bath towels, (even tooth paste and q-tips) dinner ware to feed an army (a full drawer of cutlery).

My 4 children had plenty of space in the" Kids Apartment". It's huge, awesome for them, with plenty of sleeping options and all the things that make cottage life fun. We had friends up and the four beds up there provided sleeping space for everyone.

I appreciate and look forward to the jacuzzi tub as my own mini vacation, while on vacation. The owner leaves a few candles and plastic wine glasses.

Everyone looks for great swimming and this cottage has it. Great for jumping off the dock, playing on the sandy shore, snorkelling in and around the rock shoals, standing 40 feet off shore in 3 feet of water in one spot but 15 feet deep in another. It's so awesome. There is plenty of rock bass to enjoy right under the dock! We discovered that they eat raisin bread.

We brought our dog the first two years but found that he was too stressed to relax so now we leave with with friends.

Last year we brought our bikes and had three day trips. The best by far was out to the Warsaw Senic Caves, followed closely by a round trip along river road.
