Your nearest resort if Haraki Bay, just 4 km from the village. Park your car in the square and take gentle stroll past the church and wander along the pedestrian only promenade along the beautiful horseshoe bay with crystal clear waters and dramatic back drop of the Pheraklos Castle ruins, even more spectacular when lit up at night. Visit one of the friendly, family run restaurants or laid back tavernas for drinks or a superb meal and during the day chill out on the beach where umbrellas and beds are available.
Also 4 km from the village to the west of Haraki Bay are the beautiful golden sands of Agathi beach with warm, shallow and crystal clear sea which is ideal for snorkelling and provides safe swimming for all the family. The beach is backed by mountains and sand dunes giving a stunning backdrop to your relaxing day on the beach. Sun beds and parasols are available to rent and there's a selection of 3 licensed tavernas serving a variety of refreshments from cold drinks to three course meals.
Other resorts nearby include Lindos and St Paul's Bay, only 10 minutes drive away, or you could visit Tsambika beach, a long sandy beach with numerous tavernas and water sports, a 15 minute drive from the village. While there why not visit Tsambika Monastry, not for the faint hearted at 300 m but persevere up the 350 steps and you will be rewarded with stunning views out to sea and to the north and South of the island.
We can provide you with an introductory tour of the village and nearby resort free of charge and there are a selection of guide books, information and maps provided for your convenience.
We would recommend a car although this is not essential as there is a regular bus service rough the village linking with Rhodes town and Lindos and the various resorts in between.
The village of Malona has a good restaurant, a bakery, three small bars, a post-office, four mini markets and an English speaking pharmacist.
Less than 60 minute drive from the village you will find yourself in Rhodes Town on the northern tip of the island exploring the old town with hassle free shopping, friendly traditional tavernas, ancient battlements and modern marina, or catching the meeting of the the calm Mediterranean Sea and stormy Aegean Sea at the southern tip of the Island at Prassonisi, a surfers paradise, or wine tasting on the western slopes of the Mount Attaviros.
Malona makes an ideal base for hiking and cycling, take a wander through the peaceful olive tracks or try spotting honey buzzards along the quiet mountain roads. The perfect place to unwind and relax.
We fell in love with Rhodes whilst on holiday in 2006 and decided to buy a holiday home so we could own a piece of this beautiful island. We now have three children and love to come and visit the island as often as we can, spending our time relaxing on the local, deserted beaches, just us, the sea and the peace and quiet. We always return home feeling completely relaxed.
Jo Kirk purchased this house in 2007
We loved Malona when we visited, enjoying the peace and quiet and the friendliness of the locals. Haraki is also a lovely peaceful resort that doesn't get over crowded even in the high season months of July and August. The backdrop of Malona and the surrounding mountains are beautiful.
Malona is the perfect station for exploring whole rhodes by car and also a very authentic and quite place far from mass-tourism. The property itself is great and offers everything you need for a self-organised holiday. The owners provided perfect customer service; the communication via e-mail was fast and very friendly. We would recommend this property to friends.
This is my second visit to this cottage - that really say's it all - I came back!! It is an ideal cottage, away from the tourists in a traditional village. The kitchen and shower room are good, a good spacious bedroom and a cool lounge downstairs. Air conditioning and fans. You will need a car, although there are a couple of small eating places and 'corner shops' in the village you will need to drive to restaurants, supermarkets and beaches. Although I was there pre-season the weather was hot and the sea very warm. The cottage has a nice balcony which catches the sun during the day and in the evenings and is a great place to have 'sundowners' before going out.
There is absolutely no doubt that I will be returning.
We had a wonderful weeks holiday at Jo and Ian's house in Malona. The house was a wonderful base for our stay, being comfortable, clean and tidy. It had everything we needed and we found it excellent value for money in comparison. We loved picking lemons from the tree and making our own fresh lemonade. Malona is a lovely village and we enjoyed wandering through the streets of an evening and visiting the local restaurant which provided us with lovely traditional Greek food. Even though it was early in the season we found Haraki, the nearest resort, to be quite lively with various restaurant and bars open. We spent a few days exploring the island and found it an easy island to navigate and there was plenty to see, definately need to make another trip to see what we missed this time round. We would definately recommend staying at Jo and Ian's place and hope to visit again later this year
We really enjoyed our 2 weeks staying at Jo and Ian's house in Malona. The house was exactly as described with comfortable bedroom, lounge and roof terrace, very clean throughout and well maintained. As the temperature was hovering around 40 degrees during our holiday the air conditioning was most welcome.
The owners were most efficient in every respect and their representative in Malona, Martin, could not have been more helpful including showing us around the area.
We found the information pack in the house very helpful and especially enjoyed visiting many of the suggestions listed. Our favourites were Rhodes Old City, Monte Smith which includes the Acropolis of Rhodes and the Archaeological site and the Acropolis at Lindos. Our favourite beaches were Agathi, Haraki, Kalathos and Prasonisi. We were lucky enough to have a car for the duration of our holiday which could be considered almost essential.
The locals are extremely friendly and there are two tavernas within walking distance of the property as well as several mini-marts, also within walking distance.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to others, particularly couples.

Pleasant stay, very quiet house and village ideally located between Lindos and Rhodes allowed to visit the island easily.
Very good home equipment, everything has been designed for us and Martin is a very good butler and tour guide too. Thank you very much for his kindness and availability.
We chose this holdiay rental as we wanted a weeks break away without being amongst hoards of tourist. We arrived to a lovely hot sunny day in Rhodes and were pleased to get into an air conditioned house! The propery is lovely and spacious with everything you need. We did not use the down stairs sitting room at all during the week as every evening we sat on the terrace watching the stars! Very romantic! The property was as described and the directions given were needed as it is tucked away down little streets. The house was clean and tidy and looked after. We did not hire a car as we wanted a laid back week so borrowed a couple of bikes which suited us fine when we wanted to get to the beach. No hills!! We also caught the bus a couple of days but be careful if you catch it to Rhodes as there wasn't one to bring us back! It did drop us off on the main road so we prepared ourselves for the walk back (about 1-1/2 miles) but luckily a kind local took pity on the mad tourists walking in the afternoon heat and gave us a lift. There is only one place to eat in the village with was very nice so we tended to have our main meal out at lunch times. The village shop was well stocked and we managed to do all our food shopping there during the week and did not find it too expensive. Rhodes town was lovely especially if you ventured away from the main town and investigated the small streets. There was nothing I did not like about Rhodes or the property and would definitely go again and recommend it to friends. The owners were very pleasant and answered any questions promptly.
The village of Malona is situated on the east coast of Rhodes where many beautiful beaches can be found. As an active traditional agricultural village it is surrounded by orange, manderin and olive groves. With footpaths leading from the village into the surrounding forests and hills the village is ideally located for those interested in walking and experiencing the beautiful surroundings.
There are a number of eateries to be found in Malona and the neighbouring village of Masari. Within the village are several small mini-markets, a chemist and a butchers. The local post office runs from one of the cafes in the square and fresh fruit and fish are sold from vans visiting daily.
Just 5 minutes drive lies the beautiful beach of Agathi, a sheltered beach with aqua blue waters and the port of Haraki which boasts a number of cafeterias, bars and tavernas.
