Welcome to The Gateway Cottage! Our beautiful upscale 1765 sf 'cottage' is situated at above 7000' altitude in a natural setting on a peaceful acre of cool pines in Northern Arizona. We are located just minutes east of Williams, the Gateway to the Grand Canyon, where you will find plenty of shopping for most anything you need. It's an easy 45 minute/60 mile drive to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, and with Flagstaff 25 minutes and Sedona an hour away, this is a great central location!! The tastefully decorated interior includes 2 KING bedrooms and 2 full baths, plus a sleeping loft with a QUEEN bed and a TWIN bed, as well as a QUEEN sleeper sofa and pack-n-play crib comfortably accommodates up to 9 adult guests. Recent updates have been made with new curtains in living and bedrooms and new coverlets on beds in loft. See the stars through the skylights from the king size bed in the master and the queen bed in the loft. Both king bedrooms have a tv and dvd player. The fully stocked kitchen includes everything you need, bring your groceries and make a simple or gourmet meal. The laundry room includes linens and towels. Outside relaxation on the deck or the front porch. There is a land line (phone) in house for local calls. Fun activities (winter and summer) are nearby, including the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Grand Canyon Railway/Polar Express, Bearizona and the Deer Farm, as well as museums, observatories and outdoor recreation such as fishing, hiking, skiing, sledding and more. This home will not disappoint you! Sorry, as a courtesy to guests with allergies, we do not host pets. Check in is after 4:00 pm and checkout is before 11:00 am.

About Merrie

Our names are Darrel & Merrie, we met in Williams & have been married 45 years. We have 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren. Merrie grew up in the area, and has always called it "home". She loves the mountains, pines and the quiet pace of the location.

Merrie purchased this house in 2007

Why Merrie chose Williams

We purchased the land in 2002 and dreamed of the day we would see our cabin there on the property. We drew the plans and sub-contracted the construction beginning in 2005, the home was, for the most part, completed in 2007. We have enjoyed the process, and have been doing some finishing touches since then. We are confident you will enjoy the property, and make many happy memories there.

What makes this house unique

There is a peacefulness you'll feel when staying at our home, and the proximity to the Grand Canyon, Williams, Bearizona, The Grand Canyon Railway, Flagstaff and Sedona makes our home perfect for daily outings taking in all the sites. We enjoy taking the family to the cabin to enjoy the cool weather in summer. The smell of the pines, relaxing around the fire pit and taking walks in the forest, along with the occasional sightings of the deer, elk and antelope in the area are a welcome change of pace. The Kaibab squirrels that live in the neighborhood enjoy the handouts and are very entertaining. Winters are beautiful with the fresh snow, sledding and holidays in front of the fireplace with coffee, spiced cider and hot chocolate. Christmas in Williams is a sight to see, with the lighting of the huge Christmas tree, and boarding the Polar Express is a joy for the kiddies, young and old. Bearizona Wildlife Park and The Deer Farm are a must see, near Williams, only a few miles away. (Sorry, we do not host pets in consideration of those with allergies)

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a gorgeous Getaway. I definitely recommend this lovely chalet for your next trip to the Grand Canyon or the Flagstaff area. A cozy home in either winter or summer. We found it to have a lovely well-stocked kitchen...perfect for our family getaway. The living & dining areas are very spacious and our group of 8 was easily accommodated. Thanks for a lovely time....we'll definitely be returning.

Awesome

The cabin was gorgeous and spacious. We bought groceries for our stay and found that a lot of it was already here. The basics. It was very relaxing. We will definitely be back!

Just perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Right from when we stepped through the door we knew we had chosen the right accommodation. Coming from Australia we wanted to experience a Christmas in a cabin in the cold weather. The decor was lovely and the Christmas tree was just amazing.

The outside temperature was cold but with the log fire going and homely feel it couldn't have been more perfect.

The instructions left were easy to follow.

The cabin was very clean, the beds very comfortable.

We spent 5 nights there but wished we had booked it for longer.

I wouldn't hesitate in staying there again!

Beautiful house in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying here, really beautiful and well equipped house in the woods, very quiet location but easily access to Grand Canyon, Williams, Sedona etc. There was so much to do nearby that we wished we'd had more time to stay and enjoy the house!

Beautiful family retreat near Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, and Sedona

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time with our 3 children and our 2 in-laws at this beautiful cottage. We had plenty of space for the 7 of us and found the home to be clean, bright, and well-appointed. The forest setting was beautiful and the neighborhood quiet. We did hear the train on and off (including overnight) but found it charming. There were fun games for us all to play and the TVs and cable options were great for evening relaxing.

We took day trips to Grand Canyon, Sedona, Flagstaff areas, including 1 day on Grand Canyon train to South Rim. Safeway was close by in Williams for groceries.

The only drawback of the home was that the WIFI did not work at all (despite 3 different tech-savvy adults with 6 different devices trying to get connection at various hours of day/days of week) and cell phone coverage (AT&T, Verizon) was spotty to nil. Would caution against expecting any internet access for important work/business or other needs during your trip.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the wonderful review of our property, it sounds like you all had a great time. I must apologize once again for the lack of wifi during your stay, and advise that has been corrected. I found the modem/router had been contaminated, rendering it incapable of transmitting a signal. I purchased a new one and have placed it in an area where it is not accessible to children. It now works perfectly, so anyone needing to work during their stay has wifi access. We have had a land line in our home for over a year, for those who are unable to receive a cell phone signal. P
