What makes this house unique

Rum Point boasts a 5 story crow’s nest with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico, Pine Island Sound and at least a dozen of the surrounding islands. It’s a great place to gather for morning coffee while planning the day or for watching a sunset or stargazing. The screened deck on the kitchen level has ceiling fans and makes an excellent place for an afternoon card game. The screened deck on the bedroom level is complete with hammock and the most comfortable porch swing you’ll ever sit in. Rum Point sits on a secluded double lot surrounded by tall trees. The private pool is lighted and heated and has a very large pool deck surrounding it with plenty of seating and lounge chairs for the whole gang.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Spent week in early July at Rum Point with 5 adults and 8 teens. House was awesome, clean and well maintained, and island was very quiet and relaxing. Not a lot to do on island which was fine with adults, but feared teens would be climbing the walls by midweek. Just the opposite, they were loving the place and asking to come for two weeks next summer. One of the most unusual and enjoyable family vacations I have ever been on. Only complaint was getting groceries. It was not difficult but very $$$. The general store at the resort was downright laughable and the delivery service was not cheap. They overcharged me around $50 for delivery of our initial order, and I have called twice to get the situation resolved to no avail.

Can't say enough good things about Sarah Rapp and the Miklovcic's, the owners. All were extremely helpful, honest and hospitable. Without reservation, I highly recommend spending a week or two at Rum Point, just make sure you plan ahead and bring plenty of groceries.

Wonderful 50th Birthday week.

  • 5 of 5

3 generations of our family spent a fabulous week at Rum Point for my 50th birthday in August. The age range was 7 through 78 and everyone had a great time! The house is beautifully decorated with plenty of space for all ages. The teenagers hung out downstairs around the pool and pool table while us old folks stayed close to the kitchen and bar upstairs.

The house is fully stocked with plenty of linens and the kitchen is well appointed too. New built- in bunk beds in the upstairs guest room adds bed space for extra guests. The kids loved them. We had a few rainy days, but there were puzzles and the pool table to keep the kids occupied.

Having grown up in Florida, I have vacationed all over the state. North Captiva is really different than any other place. Natures beauty at its best. We enjoyed exploring the island on golf carts. The beach at the south end was better than the one right near Rum point for us. Our dogs enjoyed chasing the seagulls while we relaxed on the beach. It was a short golf cart ride and a little adventure .

We rented a boat for the week so we were able to go tubing, fishing and snorkeling whenever we wanted too, which was nice. The shells are abundant on North Captiva, but Costa Cayo State park is loaded with shells. Layers of beautiful, intact shells. It was crazy. If you want shells, it is a quick boat ride and you will have more than you can carry.

We ate at Barnacles twice and our food was great both times. The service was outstanding as well. We also had dinner at Over the Water on my birthday. It was a little difficult to get in touch with them, but worth the effort. The food was very good. Not inexpensive, but worth it. Large portions and cooked when you ordered it, by the owner.

We had a great time at this property, the owners were so pleasant to deal with in preparation for this trip.Very helpful in our planning . Bob and his wife even had a lovely birthday gift for me at house when we arrived.

I would highly recommend a trip to North Captiva for laid back vacation on a beautiful secluded island.

My kids are already asking to go back this summer!

Owner's Response: Hello Tiffany, Happy belated birthday and thank you for taking the time to write a review about Rum Point. We are so glad you were able to get together with so much of your family all in one house to share your special event. It sounds like you enjoyed everything the house had to offer to the fullest and made the most of the island too. Isn't it great how after you got settled in on that first day, that you begin to realize you have just discovered an actual slice of paradise and all that is required of you from that point on is to relax and make some memories with friends and family? It sounds like you did just that. Renting the boat was a great idea that we recommend to anyone. We're glad you got to get out and see some of the surrounding islands. There is so much opportunity for exploring in that part of Florida that you could have stayed for another week and still not seen it all. We hope to have you back again soon for more family celebrations.

4 Generation Family Dream

  • 5 of 5

This house was wonderful. We spent 2 weeks with 4 generations of family. The staff were excellent. The pool was great. Beds were comfortable. Everything we needed was there. Comes with NCIC membership. We took advantage of kayaking, bikes, pool. Order some fresh seafood from Mango's and bring it home to cook. Those were our best meals. 11 people there and we never felt crowded. We are still debating what was more beautiful, sunrise or sunset from the crows nest. We will be back to both North Captiva and Rum Point. This was the most relaxing vacation ever.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, we value any and all feedback from our guests. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed Rum Point, the home has been a dream come true for our family and a true pleasure to share with other families such as yours. We completely understand your inability to find a final winner in the debate over Sunrise or Sunset, the view from up top is possibly the best on the island and the colors that come alive twice a day are incredible. We are glad you were able to be there with so many of your family and that you found the home to be plenty big enough. We too travel with extended family often and one of the things we always appreciate is the amount of space and decks. It's great to hear you took advantage of the NCIC membership, the kayaks are great way to explore a little more of the island and check out some of our aquatic life.

Thanksgiving on Upper Captiva

  • 5 of 5

I have been coming to Upper Captiva since the 1950's (I was a very young kid) and Rum Point was one of the best houses we have stayed in. Had 14 guest and it was fantastic. 2.5 refrigerators really helped along with 2 golf carts. Great views of the Gulf, Captiva Pass and Pine Island Sound from the crow's nest where we watched up to 20 osprey and flocks of white pelicans going for breakfast while we drank our morning coffee. Fishing and beaches were just around the corner while the kids swam in the heated pool. The owner made sure we were well taken care of. This home is definitely on the top of our list to come back again.

family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Rum Point. This house is beautiful and has all the comforts of home and then some. We were looking for a large home to accommodate our family of 12 and Rum Point was perfect. Having a second refrigerator and washer and dryer really came in handy with so many of us. We would definetly come back for our next family get together.

Rum Pointe - Amazing Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

Our family has been vacationing on North Captiva for many years and this was our first stay at Rum Point. We loved it!! We will be staying there every time we visit North Captiva from now on.

The house is amazing! The view was the best of any home we have visited. I could stay up there all day in the comfy deck chairs on the roof, looking out at the waters all around me. I loved that being on the tip of the island, water was all around us. We were so close, I saw a dolphin from the roof!! The beautiful beach was just a short walk from the house. My family loved the screened in hammock room - it was our nighttime social area. We also loved hanging out in the game room, it was so much fun! The sprawling home had so many inviting decks that it made the large house seem huge!

The house came with two golf carts that made getting around the island a lot of fun. The house was incredibly clean when we arrived and everything in it was in working order.

The pool was private and beautiful and it even lit up at night. The large private lot with all of its flowers and palms was beautiful and quiet. The house was perfect! We are looking forward to going back later in the summer with our extended family. I love that there is room for everyone and I can't wait till they explore the home and the island with us!

North Captiva is truly our favorite vacation destination and Rum Point is the house for us from now on! We travel a lot and there is no place like North Captiva! It is our home away from home and Rum Point is now the cherry on top! It is spacious, clean, fun, comfortable, has everything we need, in the perfect location, private and absolutely beautiful! The perfect island getaway! Thank you, thank you, thank you for a wonderful vacation experience!
