|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
The cares of the world will totally disappear as you arrive and become part of a unique and tranquil surrounding that will revitalize your senses.
This magnificent property of 114 acres of trees, hills and meadows encircle the house which fronts a four and half-acre lake surrounded by landscaped gardens. There is also a one-acre pond with its own island. Streams and several beautiful waterfalls run throughout the property. Sunbathe, row a boat or fish during the day—start a campfire, stargaze or take a night stroll and listen to the frogs and crickets. You can hike the 114 acres or the adjoining 650-acre New York’s Forest Preserve.
The lake is suitable for swimming. The area around the dock has a sandy bottom allowing easy access to the water without having to wade through a mud bottom. There is a raft in the middle of the lake, which you can swim to or sunbathe on.
A rowboat and canoe are available for your use. Fishing is permitted. The lake contains largemouth and smallmouth bass, perch, catfish and crappies. The small 1-acre pond is home to our “pet” rainbow trout. We call them our “pets” as we feed them but do not fish in that one location. It's something that our guests have greatly enjoyed doing.
The log cabin home is approximately 200 feet from the lake. The log cabin has original knotty pine wood throughout. The kitchen and both bathrooms have been completely renovated. The kitchen has new cabinets, appliances and granite counter tops. The wall between the kitchen and living room was removed, creating a great room that is at once larger yet more involving. The upstairs bathroom has a new glass block window and tub. The tub area has been tiled and the vanity has a granite countertop. The downstairs bathroom features a new glass enclosed tiled shower, floor and refurnished walls.
The living room contains a stone fireplace for cool evenings and winter days. There are two bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs with an added daybed in the downstairs lounge area. The house can accommodate eight people. Two of the bedrooms have queen size beds. The third has a day bed that, when opened, can sleep two comfortably. The downstairs lounge area can accommodate two comfortably as well.
Tennis, golf, biking and antique shopping begin within a five minute drive. Attractions include: Belleayre Mountain and Plattekill ski resorts, summer concerts, Roxbury Arts Center, and Hannah Golf Resort, to name a few. Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is a little over one hour away. Though the property feels completely isolated from the world, it is located just two miles from the Village of Margaretville which has a large supermarket, hospital, shops, banks, gas stations, veterinarians and restaurants. Many surrounding hamlets and villages offer additional eateries and quaint shopping experiences.
House amenities include wireless internet, cell phone service, free long distance in the continental USA and cable television. We have Apple TV, so you can access the inclusive HBO GO and Showtime Anytime. If you have a Netflix or iTunes account, you can download movies directly without having to go into town to rent a movie, although that is an option as well.

This is the most spectacular, beautiful property we've stayed at. The waterfalls, the pond, the lake, the cabin, the mountains, the rainbows, the owners, the relaxation! We love love love this place! It's pristine in every way. Very welcoming. Beautiful experience! Thank you Tom!
Imagine visiting the nicest park you've ever been too with gardens, woods, shimmering ponds and huge green expanses of lawn...that's what you'll find here, only that park becomes your private yard for the duration of your stay...
My boyfriend and I, and my dog, Summer stayed here a few weeks ago and it was just the best vacation. The cabin itself is beautiful, homey and immaculate with a modern kitchen, a rustic fireplace and gorgeous woodwork throughout - even the ceilings! To top it off, this is absolutely the best stocked house we have ever stayed at, and we've vacationed at a number of beautiful homes over the years. Aside from buying our basic food at the local supermarket and bringing our personal items from home, everything we could possibly want was already there. The pantry and cabinets were filled with the spices and oils we needed to cook great dinners, and there were even dry goods like coffee and oatmeal available. I've always had a running joke about all the terrible vegetable peelers I find at vacation homes, but this house had one so much better than the good one I already had at home that I actually went out and bought one just like it for myself! There was a great selection of movies, books, CDs and cassette tapes to enjoy.
Another unique feature is the landscaping. The landscaper, Lenore is truly an artist and her flower gardens need to be seen to be believed. In addition to being breathtaking, they also attract all kinds of delicate butterflies, dragonflies and fuzzy moths that were thrilling to watch and photograph.
The owners Tom and Cindi, and their daughter Kim are absolutely lovely people who address any concerns or questions you might have right away. Their dog Bella was friendly and exuberant. Really our stay was just the right balance of solitude/privacy and having the nicest neighbors one could imagine.
Guests get to feed the pet trout every day! It was so peaceful walking down to the trout pond, sitting on a sun-warmed rock and lazily tossing fish pellets to the trout, who attacked them like hungry piranha...
Another special touch: There's a hidden statue of a dog called Fugly hidden in the woods and if a guest finds it they get to hide it somewhere else for the next guest. We finally found Fugly the last night and I have to admit I was as excited as a little kid.
The only downside is you have to go home eventually...
Absolutely magical vacation spot. I would totally recommend.
My husband and our 3 kids I stayed at treetop acres for Memorial Day weekend
I contacted Tom inquiring about the availability and he responded early the next morning. Coordinating with Tom to book the place, payment and getting all the necessary information together was fast and a breeze.
The house was spacious, clean and inviting. Plenty of room and closet space in all the bedrooms and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped and stocked with pots, plenty of plates and utensils. There are also a few misc supplies (sugar, spices, ketchup, etc) so I recommend coming to the house first to check out what they have before stopping at the grocery (which is only 5 mins away)
Upon arrival we met Tom, Cindy and Bella (friendliest dog ever), all are very warm and friendly, and wonderful hosts! They offered use of their fun house, equipped with a ping pong table and numerous games such as badminton, baseball (with mitts), croquet, virtually every outdoor game you can play. Plus life jackets, and water floaters toys for water play.
We hiked through the woods and to the waterfall, checked out the pond where they were able to feed the fish, went on a adventure to find treetop acres infamous Fugly but they especially loved the lake making use of the canoe, kayak and swimming. When we weren't doing anything it was still perfect: Plenty of room for my little one to walk the meadow to pick and blow the dandelions, my teen under a tree by the lake reading a book, and my 8yr old son practicing rowing in the canoe. Quiet, serene and picturesque.
We didn't want to leave and are definitely looking forward to coming back!
My husband and I -- and our two dogs -- had an amazing holiday here! Tom was exceptionally responsive from our initial inquiry and he and Cindi are wonderfully gracious hosts, ensuring you have everything you need for an enjoyable stay with thoughtful touches throughout the immaculate cabin (including an exceptionally well-stocked kitchen, plentiful towels, soft linens, comfortable bed, a bottle of wine as a welcome gift, etc.)
The house itself is absolutely charming and cozy with fantastic details and the living/dining area is light and airy -- the entire home was spotless and sits on the most beautiful piece of property we've seen! We had every intention of spending our week traveling around the area, but being in this lakefront paradise, we hardly left! It truly is as glorious as the other reviews have echoed.
All in all, one of our best rentals yet -- We'll definitely be back!
Treetopp Acres bliss
singsong frogs and birds delight
wish we could move in
Best. Getaway. Ever.
This is such an amazing place for a family with little children. You have enough stuff to do on the property that you need not go out looking for activities. My son enjoyed running around in the wide open space and we had the best weekend getaway. We also had the privilege of meeting Tom and his dog, Bella. We got to spend a lot of time playing with Bella. The property is well maintained and a lot of effort is put in by Tom to keep it pristine. This is one of those places where you will need to plan a year in advance to rent unless you visit during the off season. We will surely be back.
