Studio centrally located in quiet San Diego neighborhood
I have lived in the San Diego area since 1974, previously in Del Mar for 25 years. I chose to move to Kensington for its neighborly feel and lovely homes. I'm an avid scuba diver and underwater photographer and dog lover.
Owner purchased this Guest House in 2016
Why Owner chose Kensington
Peaceful and restful retreat, yet close to everything and very easy access to freeways.
What makes this Guest House unique
Beautiful and private garden back yard. Both the main house and guest house open onto this back yard. You are welcome to enjoy the patio and yard until 10 p.m. I am usually at work during the week so you will have the yard mostly to yourselves while I am at work.

Wonderful guest house in Kensington
We had a 2 night stay recently and found the guest house to be perfect for us. Our dogs were right at home and Jennifer was a wonderful host. Highly recommend.
Thank you, Charles. We'd be happy to welcome you back any time!
Nice, but not private
I will start with saying a different type of guest would have a different experience than we did, but we booked this property because it was advertised as "very private" and the picture supports the advertised privacy. The yard was lovely and would have been enjoyable, but it was not disclosed that it is a shared back yard with little to no privacy. The studio is very cute, but cramped with too much stuff. We did not book this as a vacation but rather needed someplace to stay for a few days so without the option to enjoy the back yard or even keep our door open it felt very confining. There was no space in the studio to eat other than on the bed or in sling type chairs, not ideal for eating when you are half reclined. If the door was open the house dog was free to wander in to the space. The internet was inconsistent, we had to use our own hotspots for working, and we could not get through an entire tv show/movie without it freezing up.
I am sorry that your experience in my guest house was not what you were hoping for. I am also sorry that you did not see the upright chairs for dining and the table. Other guests have used these chairs and table for their dining needs. When your husband arrived for check in, I welcomed him and told him to please let me know if there was anything you needed or had concerns about., I'm sorry you did not let me know about the internet; I would have happily rebooted the router. I'm also sorry you did not feel able to enjoy the beautiful yard and patio, though I'm not sure why. I was at work all day every day you stayed, and generally out in the evenings, so you had full use of the yard. It is true, though, that the yard is not only the guest house yard but the main house is adjacent to it as well.
For potential guests who read this review, please remember that communication is key, and that I pride myself on promptly and effectively addressing guests' concerns, if they share them with me. The guest house has both "sling chairs" and upright chairs, as well as a small table that can be used for eating. It also has a collapsible computer desk. Others have not had complaints about the internet connectivity - I have 100 mps download speed - but I'd be happy to reboot the router if anyone is having problms. The aforementioned yard is the back yard/patio of the property and both the guest house and main house have access to it. However, during Kari's stay, I was never home and she had full use of the yard. My small dog will come to visit, but had I known this was an issue, I would have offered Kari a dog gate to place in the doorway to keep my dog from visiting her.
quiet, cute, comfortable
good size studio with a comfortable bed, simply decorated, and a newly remodeled bathroom.
TONS of books to read, as well as 100's of dvds to watch.
snacks & wine waiting for us, along with a note to contact if needed, was appreciated.
super easy check in, no issues requiring host contact, there is street or driveway parking, beautiful yard, bbq available, private.
walking distance (maybe a mile?) to adams blvd with a lot of restaurants & nice bars.
def will stay here again.
Thank you Alecia! I am glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to host you again!
Sweet little hideaway
Very comfortable, quiet, and pleasant place.
Thank you, Carolyn. Happy to welcome you back.
Quiet place that has everything you need
Fantastic little neighborhood, very quiet. The gate was a little clunky getting in and out but the owner was working on a fix. You can park in the driveway but I found street parking plentiful. The space had everything I could need or want. It’s a studio apartment but doesn’t have that feeling. There’s a couple of lounge chairs inside, the large bed is quite comfortable, and the bathroom has a great shower. The backyard is super cute and a nice place to hang out. I will definitely come back.
Thank you, Jennifer! You’ll be glad to know that the gate was “rehabbed” and now works smoothly. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back!
This was a wonderful stay. Jeanne had many little perks awaiting us. There are DVDs, books etc to keep anyone happy. The guest house is so clean, updated. Very beautiful area. Great yard to sit in and enjoy. All around wonderful stay.
Thank you for staying, Liz! I am glad that you enjoyed your brief stay and hope to host you again!
Kensington is about 10 minutes from the airport, downtown, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, Ocean and Mission Beaches, and retail shopping malls. It is a short drive to San Diego State University or University of San Diego and about a 20 minute drive north to University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, and Del Mar.
