The all-white interior with 12' ceilings and a view of a tree filled leafy garden will instantly put you in a peaceful mood. It is just one of 4 units in the building, so you will noticed its personalized attention.
Enter from the front stoop through the ornate carved wood entry arch and you will feel like you have just stepped back 100 years in time. All original oak details which show the charm of gently worn history. Go straight ahead to your own apartment through the 10' entry door.
This Studio Apartment is very special from the time you open the door. The 12' ceilings create a special ambience and all-white room direct you to look out at the beauty of the peaceful private back gardens with their trees and greenery. Since it is in the back of the building you hear no street noise.
The apartment is furnished with high end furniture, such as an original leather Corbusier sofa and raw steel full length mirror, a queen size bed (memory foam mattress) and bed stands. Also a 42'' screen mounted TV pivots out for viewing anywhere in the apartment. The bed area is carpeted for a more lush intimate feeling. The radio/iPod player holds and iPod filled with Harlem Hideaway playlist of jazz and blues. Books of New York and Harlem are provided, as well as current issues of Time Out and New York Magazine to let you know what is currently happening in the city.
There is a large closet and plenty of extra overhead storage to hide those suitcase so you can forget you are a visitor!
The kitchen has a new 4 burner gas stove/oven, microwave, toaster oven, toaster, coffee makers, stainless bottom freezer refrigerator and coffee/tea awaiting. The refrigerator has a filtered water pitcher. Eat on authentic colorful fiestaware plates under the huge oversized pendant light next to the original massive black and white blow-up from a vintage science book.
Check out the quirky items in the metal glass display case and you may laugh. Linens, towels, iron/board are provided, as well as lending umbrellas.
A 3 speed overhead ceiling fan and quiet built-in air conditioner/heater will add to your comfort, as well as separate adjustable bedside lamps.
The all white shower room with lit medicine cabinet contains an outlet, free cosmetics for the ladies, as well as a shampoo, soap and hairdryer. The separate toilet room has its own charms.
You also now have access to the beautiful shared backyard.
Want a larger room or additional space? The adjacent room in building is the Parlor Room (Home Away # 9825450). It sleeps three to four. We also have the Guest Room (Home Away # 993020) on the top floor. Sleeps two. We also have the Garden Apartment (#3634519) that sleeps four.

This building is typical of the historic neighborhood. I was impressed that it still retained so much of its original form and material. However, I was very impressed by the atmosphere of the block, with friendly, open and involved neighbors.
The quiet friendly tree-lined street, proximity to express subway- only 4 stops to Times Square, closeness to neighborhood coffee shop and historic park, as well as the 125 St. corridor and Central Park.
I actually love sitting on the front stoop while having a coffee or a glass of wine. I love seeing the relaxed street life going by, and being a part of it. Since my block is dominated by private brownstones, rather than apartment buildings, it has a friendlier, small town feeling than most other neighborhoods.
We enjoyed NY, for an important part due to your charming, comfortable and quiet apartment (and its friendly and helpful landlord).
We certainly will advice friends who plan to go to The Big Apple to see whether you have plavce for them.
And may be one day we will be back in your city.
The apartment was perfect for us! I couldn't have asked for anything better. The area is great, and everyone in the neighborhood was friendly! I highly recommend staying here!
When researching places to stay for our New York holiday in January, we wanted an apartment that was just like what you see in the movies and on television. Harlem Hideaway studio provided exactly this. We arrived and we were instantly amazed by the lovely street and steps leading up to the apartment building. Dennis was highly accommodating and well informed with plenty of suggestions for local cafes, restaurants and things to do.
The apartment was clean with plenty of fresh linen, towels and amenities in which we used daily.
The location in Harlem is great as you are walking distance to local supermarkets, cafes and parks. A favourite market we found is called 'Best Market Harlem.' It is also just a quick walk to the subway, where you can easily make your way to downtown Manhattan.

Perfect little area, close to the subway but still away from the super touristy and busy area. Harlem has its own little personality that I loved! Dennis is an amazing host, the apartment was perfect for two, it had everything we needed. And if there was any questions he replied instantly. There's brochures to check out from other guests and is in perfect walking distance to grab a bite to eat and drink. Can't wait for our next NY trip cause this is definitely where we'll be staying!

You really do feel at home there.We travel a lot and make it a point to change places we stay in.With one exception - in NY this is our home.
Yes,we alternate beetween several apartments there, but these are just like different rooms at your house.Dennis is an excellent host,the place has everything you can possibly need and this rare,unique ,magical atmosphere as an added bonus.And the neiboughrhood is fascinating.This should definitely be your place of choice when in NY.On Sunday - go to the gospel mass in a church nearby, then explore the less known north part of the Central Park /within walking distance/.And if feel like Soho or new WTC - these are just less than half an hour on express metro line.Wholeheartedly recommended.Piotr&Kasia.
The Harlem Hideaway is on West 119th Street in Harlem, New York City. Marcus Garvey Park is just over a block away, with a public swimming pool, and the famed Central Park is only 9 blocks south of this rental. There is a grocery store and laundromat within 2 blocks, and the nearby Lenox Avenue offers a variety of restaurants and convenience stores. Also on Lenox Avenue, you will find the Lenox Lounge where you can enjoy jazz music, and the Red Rooster Restaurant, staples of Harlem. The West 125th Street shopping corridor includes major stores, such as H & M and Marshall’s, and on Frederick Douglass Avenue you will find restaurant row.
Public transportation is convenient with the 2/3 subway station just over 3 blocks away, offering both express and local train service. The A/B/C line is also nearby, about 4 blocks away.
