One of the most beautiful cabins in the Kenai area by far. 8 fully remodeled marble bathrooms, with 4 bathtubs and 4 showers. New game/office room. New walk-in freezer. New professional vacuum sealer. New commercial kitchen with walk-in fridge. New Marble kitchen doubles as the bar at night. The best addition was the very large deck. Campfire every night if desired with unlimited firewood. Location couldn't be better. We are centrally located, offering the best of Alaska to our guests and the best accommodations right on the river. Its just a 5 minute drive from the grocery store and pharmacies, and hardware stores, and plenty of great restaurants. A very comfortable cozy cabin to rent for large groups. About jennifer Hedley

I begged my husband buy a fishing lodge for years. I went and found this beautiful log lodge on my own (well, with the help of my sisters). It didn't take too much to convince my husband, Tony Hedley, MD, a die-hard fly fisherman, to buy the log cabin/lodge after showing him pictures.

Growing up in Alaska is the greatest childhood you could give your kids. Born and raised in Alaska, and having a dad who was a pioneer in the high end resort fishing lodges of Alaska-even thought it was a ton of work, you miss the lodge atmosphere when its gone. Though my husband and I own the properties on the river, my sisters and I have opened up a new high end fishing lodge that sits on one of the greatest fishing holes on the Kenai River. The remodel took twice as long and twice the cost of our plans, but it now stands alone as one of the highest end fishing lodges in all of the Kenai Peninsula. Our dad's lodge was in Bristol Bay and was called "Mike Cusack's King Salmon Lodge." We decided to continue on with that Alaskan family tradition and name it after our dad, but brought it into our new location on the Kenai Penninsula, and called it "Cusack's on the Kenai." Kelly Cusack Millen, my oldest sister, and I, Jenny Cusack Hedley manage the inside operations. Kim Cusack Tolan, second oldest, is in charge of entertainment, that's outside lodge operations at night, usually around the fire pit. She is the hostess with the mostess and truly live entertainment. Brooke Cusack, is the cook, and possibly a tie with Kim for the top live entertainment at night, and Katelyn is Sadie the Cleaning Lady...(NOT), is becoming CAMP COUNSELOR who knows everything at age 20.

jennifer Hedley purchased this lodge in 2013

Why jennifer Hedley chose Soldotna

MOST BEAUTIFUL cabin I could find on the river with platform docks on a sloped bank (vs the typical bank drop off). I envisioned sitting by the campfire staring out at the river (of course, with a Budweiser in your hand). I will say this..... I was not aware, when i purchased this place, of the INSANE FISHING HOLE this lodge has from the natural curve of the river bank on our river front. The previous owners never disclosed this secret. The proof is in the pudding, I mean the catching (not the fishing).

What makes this lodge unique

SAFETY- I would have to say was the most unique benefit to buying this property.....The sloped land as you head down to the river bank was probably my deciding factor in buying this property. The Kenai River typically has a drop off and stairs are needed to access the river's edge. We can view the water directly from the windows inside the lodge. This is an added safety aspect that meant a lot to me as we have a very large family and many CHILDREN around. To be able to see if a child walks down towards the bank without a life vest is important. OR....to view the DRUNK FISHERMEN is very important as well....Water safety is very important! Living on the river with children and drinkers- your visual view of the water's edge is a bonus. This place is perfect for the clientele we aim for.....family and people wanting to relax and have a good time!

FUN, NOT YOUR BORING TYPICAL FISHING LODGE-The Kenai River is surrounded by lots of fun things to do. You wont be bored like the remote fishing lodges of many places in the world because we have many local business, grocery stores, restaurants, bars, salons, TOOTHLESS strip bars, and many more exciting Alaskan adventures.

Fantastic stay

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing gem of a property. Great house, great hosts, great set-up. Highly recommended. Plenty of beds, well maintained and clean. Fishing off of the back dock was awesome. Even in September, just casually fishing after dinner, we caught a few gorgeous silver/Coho salmon.

Incredible family reunion spot

  • 5 of 5

We had a recent family reunion with 21 people -- ages 80 to 1 years old to celebrate mom's 80th birthday. This was the perfect site. We wanted to go somewhere that none of the family had been -- and Alaska it was. There were enough rooms and beds for all the various family members to sleep (and the beds were wonderful). And bathrooms in each room was very helpful! The views from the house are breathtakingly beautiful. We had fires in the fireplace on the deck and near the river every single night. The kitchen was fabulous for meals for that many people. The walk-in frig and large freezer in the kitchen were so helpful for all the food.

The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. They even adding a nice surprise toy, age appropriate, for the one year old! She spotting it the moment she walked in the door and played on it the entire stay.

The multiple washer/dryer units was also very helpful with 21 people! And, the driveway easily handled the 8 cars we had, and there was room for more!

Kody, the fishing guide, was super with such a large group! Although we were too

early for salmon catching, we had fun "fishing" vs "catching". He was able to also suggest things to see and do for the young adults. He answered our 101 questions about Alaska and the wilderness. He also helped us cook up the halibut from the charter boat fishing he set-up for some of us in Deep Creek.

We also received great ideas on places to see and things to experience from Jenny and Kody. We went down to Homer to fish and explore, Whitter for a boat cruise to see glaciers, and Seward to see Exit Glacier first hand. We also went into historic Kenai for a step back in time (check out the Cabin Park). But we also just kicked back and played games at the house, enjoyed the view and enjoyed our time together. There are many places for various groups to hang out together. And the HUGE DVD collection entertained the kids for more quiet down time.

There were many fun moments of family bike trips (bike and helmets provided), and tons of laughter moments as we share watermelon by the river side. There were tons of benches so everyone could sit and enjoy the sites and family time near the river.

We were blessed with a few sightings of caribou and moose in the riverside yard, and the street in the front of the house. We also had many visits from bald eagles. It was a treat for all!

Bottom line -- mom said she can't wait to come back again!

Owner's Response: That is the sweetest thing to read! I'm a tiny bit teary eyed. It means a lot that you all enjoyed it that much! I am so glad you guy had such a good time making family memories like our family has in the past. That is what I aim for-good memories and showing off the Beauty and Amazement of Alaska to others. There is no better way to compliment someone than to say you want to return in our business! You guy were so fun for me! It was exciting knowing a huge family like mine was there spending time together....Thank you for the wonderful review. And I look forward to your return!

Best stay, great staff and amazing fishing!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting Alaska and staying at the Sprucewood Log Cabin on the Kenai River this summer, it was such an amazing experience. The lodge is located right on the Kenai river, which gave us the opportunity to gather our things and walk right out to the docks for fishing. There were several different docks to fish off of, all of which provided the ABSOLUTE BEST spot for fishing!! The owner and employees were very friendly and did everything the could to make sure we had the best stay possible. The rooms were gorgeously remodeled with marble showers, beautiful handmade log decor and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on!! They handled our bookings and fishing licenses for a halibut charter in Homer and made sure everything was set up and ready to go so our fishing excursion went as smooth as possible. This lodge was everything we hoped for and beyond. We will definitely be staying here again!!!

Best Family Vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

My Husband and I took our 3 young children ages 3, 4, and 7 to Alaska over the summer and had the most amazing time! We stayed at the Cusack's on the Kenai Lodge and I would definitely stay again. The owner was extremely helpful with all the travel details and getting us there. When we arrived it literally took our breath away the views alone from the lodge are breathtaking of the Kenai river. Then you walk in to this beautifully designed log house and we felt at home with all the amenities that they had for us such as a Large Kitchen with commercial fridge and freezers, wifi, smart tvs but to be honest we didnt watch a minute of tv the whole week we were there the kids played outside on the property and fished off the private docks every day! We also were greeted with s'more baskets for the kids to make by the fire pit which was a huge hit. One thing I have to say the BEDS they were amazing, we travel a lot as a family and the one thing we always miss is a comfy bed well not this time these beds were the best. My husband wanted to Halibut fish with our son while they were there and the owner Jennifer Hedley set up an amazing half day excursion for them! We were able to bring home all the fish we caught not only from the Halibut but also the salmon we caught right off the dock from the lodge they have a commercial sealer for guest use. I would highly recommend making this your next family vacation we plan on making it an annual visit for our family!
