About Kermit Graf
In 2011 I retired from 31 years as an engineer with Schlumberger. My wife and I own and manage three vacation rental properties. We enjoy providing relaxing and safe properties for our guests and their families. We are both originally from Houston, then moved to Austin in the late 1960s when attending, then graduating from, the University of Texas, where we met each other in the Longhorn Band. Hook-em Horns!
Kermit Graf purchased this Estate in 1853
Why Kermit Graf chose Bellville
Bellheim is 104 acres of land owned by the Grafs, a family of German immigrants who settled here in 1853. Johann Graf immigrated from Posen, Prussia (currently, East Germany), in 1853, landed in Galveston, then settled in this area and called it the “Piney Community.” Bellheim includes ½ mile of a clear, sandy-bottomed creek called Piney. During the 1800s, the Grafs originally had approximately 700 acres of land in the Piney Community. Cotton, and then watermelons, were agricultural crops, and many Graf descendants lived and farmed in the area. In the 1930s, during the Great Depression, our grandparents had a bumper watermelon crop. They shipped a full train carload to Kansas for sale and got a good price for them. The second carload they got a bill because the melons were sold at such a low price it did not cover the cost of freight. Life was difficult. The land is mostly ranch land now as families have either died off or moved to the big city (Houston) where life was easier. Bellheim is the only remaining land owned by the Grafs in what was called the Piney Community. We opened it up for all to enjoy and is great for the young and young-at-heart to explore the creek, its bottom-land and ponds, and miles of trails along the creek and pasture land. The Bellheim house was built in 1978 by Ralph Frank, Otis Graf’s first cousin and son of Olga Graf Frank. Like Otis (our father), Ralph grew up in the Piney Community. Ralph was a master homebuilder in the area, much in demand, and had a colorful character. One of his helpers would always hold a hammer halfway up the handle. Ralph sawed off half the handle and gave it back to him.
What makes this Estate unique
We've built a large cabin down at Piney creek. Included is an old-time outhouse! The camphouse will sleep 8 when furnished in 2016. Bring your sleeping bags now and try it out! Mom tells Dad and the kids: “Does everyone want to stay at Hog Heaven tonight?” Then, she can have the house all to herself in peace and quiet!

My family enjoyed everything about the property. We were a group of 12 ages ranging from 2- 69, as well as our 2 dogs. Check in was very easy, and Mr.Graff the owner was always very informative and quick to answer any questions we may have had. We spent most of our time playing in the pond with our paddle boards as well as the paddle boat on the property. My father in law caught a nice size bass so he was thrilled, he spent most of his time fishing. The kids enjoyed running around, feeding the turtles, playing in the pond, playing in the creek at hog cabin, and we all partook in horseshoes and ping pong.
We took turns staying the night at hog heaven and that was very enjoyable, although the outhouse took some getting used to lol. We saw deer, owls, hogs, wild rabbits, and fire flies while at the cabin. Very nice and peaceful.
Everything was close in town, the grocery store, meat market, bakery, and local feed store, all run by extremely nice people. We even took a day to check out Newman’s castle, that was a really fun experience.
I would highly recommend this property looking to get away from it all and enjoy some wide open spaces. Thank you to the Graffs for a wonderful vacation, we enjoyed every minute of it.
Wonderful vacation spot
Wonderful scenic view. Property owner responsive to our requests. Would stay here again!!
Great country getaway!!
Great property with plenty of things to do for families with children. We all had a fantastic time and enjoyed exploring the property. The owner labeled everything which was really helpful. The home had everything and more of what we could have possibly needed during our stay. Thanks!!
Great weekend. We all had a wonderful time. The grandkids had fun fishing, using the paddle boat, going to Hog Heaven, playing in the playhouse. This is a great place to stay.
Good getaway from the city!
Amazing views and well equipped home. Everything has been thought of.
Peaceful, relaxing and wholesome fun is how I would sum up our visit. Everyone enjoyed the Comforts of the home as well as the beauty of the property. We were also very impressed with how well the host had everything organized.
I only wish the water was a bit higher in the creek to actually swim in. But dangling our feet off the dock was enjoyable enough. We particularly loved the history about the family posted at the front door.. what a nice touch!
I do recommend you bring all your groceries. The local store is a bit expensive. Also the iOS store appears to be permanently closed. So bring your own bait.
Note: a couple of us fell in the garage because of the small drop and it just wasn't very noticeable. I'd recommend the owner put some anti-slip or reflective tape.
