Description

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday villa in Carboneras - Finca los Tigres

Romantic self-catering Finca, secluded, all year round rental, largeprivate pool

Your accommodation is in a new but traditional Andalusian cortijo (farm house) named EL CAZADOR (The Hunter), set high upon a promontory within the eleven acres of Finca Los Tigres, a stone’s throw away from Hípica Aguamarga’s stables. It is a stunning, spacious and luxurious villa, with an enticing mix of the modern and the traditional. It has a solar heated pool of 13x3.5 m and terraces on 3 sides of the house.

El Cazador (The Hunter), a 4-bedroom, 2- bathroom whitewashed cortijo, can comfortably accommodate 6 people in its 144m2 . It is an enticing mix of the traditional and the modern, with terra cotta tiles on the floors, slate terraces and underfloor solar/gas heating. Every effort has been made to render the house ecologically friendly, using double glazing and double walls with insulation to keep out the heat in summer and lock it in during the winter. We even placed the windows in accordance with the angle of the sun rays to allow more light in in winter and less in summer.

Extra Information: Surrounding the farmhouse are terraces made of traditional natural stone, leading at the front down to a large, solar heated swimming pool measuring 12.75m x 3.5m (approximately 42 x 11.5 feet). The pool itself is located on an ancient Moorish terrace created hundreds of years ago for viticulture, and is made of honey-coloured stone, in keeping with the ecological requirements of the Nature Reserve, and invisible from the countryside surrounding it. There are terraced areas by the pool. The view from the pool is an unobstructed 240-degree landscape for all to enjoy.

At the rear of the property is a gravel driveway leading up to a large space behind the farmhouse. There are no fences surrounding El Cazador, allowing uninterrupted views all around the property. The stables are only a stones’ throw from the front door, with an immense fenced area for riders to enjoy, a short way down the hill directly in front of the accommodation.

Things you may want to know: There is no telephone line available in El Cazador however mobile phone coverage is very good. Internet via satellite is available but please bring your own laptop/printer

Two baby cots with blankets etc and two high chairs can be provided upon request.

The farmhouse is fitted with smoke detectors and has a fire extinguisher.

The supply of water, gas and electricity is all included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that all water at the farmhouse comes from a 140 metre deep well and is suitable for all bathing, washing and other such purposes but is not certified ‘potable’. Large containers of mineral water are widely available and inexpensive.

Sailing: Sailing opportunities abound for visitors of all experience, whether just for fun or if you are looking for something more ‘intense’. It is possible to hire out motor boats, catamarans and small pedal boats in Agua Amarga. Yacht Club San Andres is under construction at Carboneras and the Club de Mar Almería yacht club is extremely welcoming to experts and novices alike, with excellent facilities for visiting yachts. The club offers superb dining facilities with views of the harbour and the comings and goings of the ferries linking the city with Morocco. Further afield to the west of Almería lies the Almerimar Yacht Club, a vast complex ready to receive, service and repair any size of visiting vessel

Skiing is close: 2 hours away is the Sierra Nevada Olympic Ski resort.

Golf is equally accessible: Turre Golf Club is about 30 minutes' drive and several famous golf clubs in Murcia (La Manga) and Almeria are about 2 hours' drive

About Dr Antonia Riley

My name is Dr Antonia Riley and I am a Lecturer of American Studies. I was born in Holland, emigrated to the USA when I was 24 and in a very roundabout way I came back t Europe 13 years later to meet my English husband, a former RAF Fighter Pilot. His Squadron gave Finca los Tigres its name: The Tigers. We live in Hamble, Hampshire and when we are not at the Finca we sail our boat in the Solent and beyond or we are riding polo ponies, trying to learn to play!.

Dr Antonia Riley purchased this villa in 2000

Why Dr Antonia Riley chose Mojacar area

I found Agua Amarga in 1992 and fell in love with the place. In 1998 I took my husband too the the place and he fell in love with it, too. Then we looked around for a property and, due to the most serendipitous of circumstances, we found this Finca. And that was love at first sight!

What makes this villa unique

The Finca is situated in a unique corner of the Cabo de Gata National Park. You can hear the silence while you look out and see the Med shimmer in the dsatnce (2.5km) Below you see grazing horses and roaming goats and the many terraces make you feel part of an ancient Moorish landscape. You are not overlooked by anybody and the view from the pool does not include buildings or people, only hills and some animals.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Antonia,

Just a few words to tell you that we really enjoyed.

Agua Amarga is incredible, as usual. We have been going over 12 years, we have always gone to Hotel "concept", we know a lot, but it was the first time we've gone to a house, and the truth that experience for our family has been very positive. We felt like in our home. So I told to Wolfgang. His caretaker service and hospitality was very good.

A Finca to suirt all

  • 5 of 5

An extremely well presented and comfortable finca with very good factilies and very well equiped. The finca has wonderful views out and down towards Agua Amarga and offers complete relaxation. For walkers a 20 minutes steady walk to Agua Amarga -longer walks can take you to secluded beaches west of Agua Amarga. Not wanting to walk or ride horseback from the Hipica which is situated almost next door? A 10 minute drive to Carboneras, which has a wonderful market on Thursdays and a very large beach, or 5 minutes in the car will take you to Agua Amarga with beach bars in which to pass a wonderful lunch time with drinks and tapas. Or just relax poolside at the finca. Finca Los Tigres is addictive, you will want to return.

Fabulous

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday in May 2009. The house is gorgeous, so tastefully designed and it feels really homely. The location was good only a short drive to the beach. The views over the hills were stunning. The only thing I'd say is having a 1 year old around the Finca was a challenge as there are lots of big drops and jaggedy rocks around. This was only a minor issue, the rest was fabulous. We'd 100% go back.

Walkingon the Costa de Almeria

  • 5 of 5

The finca was beautifylly and generously appointed and very easy to reach from Almeria airport and owners and caretaker very helpful and accommodating. Late spring is a great time to go; not too hot for walking (although windy) and the flowers were beautiful. The coastline/coastal walk is stunning. Good quality maps and guide books are hard to find for this area. We'll certainly return if we can only find another 2 or 3 more spectacular walks. Di et al

Falta de limpieza general

  • 1 of 5

Owner's Response: This client is unhappy with us. He did not take care to protect the property, yet he requested another holiday in our Finca. When we declined his request for security reasons, he became very angry and wrote this review. He is correct in that the hot water failed, but our Caretaker fixed that for him immediately. I cannot imagine why the client wanted to come back if everything was a dreadful as he describes. Meanwhile, I have asked other clients who stayed with us during the summer of 2015 about these issues and they were very surprised to hear his comments. Several of these guests return year after year. Antonia Riley, Director, Finca los Tigres

There are four fantastic beaches within easy reach of Finca Los Tigres: Agua Amarga, Cala Enmedio, Cala de Plomo and the naturist beach of Playa de los Muertos, each with their own individual characteristics.

The Cabo de Gata Nature Reserve extends some 3km (1.9 miles) out into the Mediterranean Sea and diving, both for fun and for scientific research, is a major pursuit along this stretch of coastline. There is a diving school in Agua Amarga itself, Centro de Buceo, that caters for individuals of all abilities, from novices to expert divers. A few minutes north in Carboneras is another diving school, El Club de Buceo Carboneras.

Sailing opportunities abound for visitors of all experience, whether just for fun or if you are looking for something more ‘intense’. It is possible to hire out motor boats, catamarans and small pedal boats in Agua Amarga.

Other Activities: The Finca is extremely suited to Honeymoon couples due to its privacy.
