About Julie Harris
Bom Dia! I love the beach! I grew up on the New Jersey shore in the United States and have been living for the last 22 years outside of Madrid, Spain, far from my beloved Atlantic Ocean! I currently give private English lessons, but I leave my schedule flexible so that I can travel, another love!, and spend as much time as I can in Carrapateira! I love taking long walks on the beach with my dog, Uba and my partner, Javier, followed by a swim in the exhilarating water. To me, the sea is not the sea without waves! I love playing in the waves and listening to the sound of them as the ocean inhales and exhales over the rocks. This spring I plan on exploring the many hiking trails in the area so that I can share with you my experience and give you some tips and routes. Since I cannot always be there when my guests arrive, I have a highly-trusted and friendly Senhora Filomena (speaks English, Portugese, French and Spanish) who is there to greet you and make sure that any problems that may arrive are taken care of. She lives in Carrapateira, a phone call away, and can be helpful for ideas about places to go in the area. She will treat you like a guest in her own home.
Julie Harris purchased this House in 2016
Why Julie Harris chose Carrapateira
I bought this house this year after going to Carrapateira for several years and falling in love with the area. I loved the house because, though it is only a 2-minute walk to town and a short walk to the Praia do Bodeira, it is located on a quiet, dead-end street on a hilltop offering privacy and serenity. I loved the sense of getting away from it all, yet at the same time, being able to walk anywhere I need to go. I have put much work into renovating and furnishing the house so that renters will be comfortable and feel at home. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
What makes this House unique
From the front patio and any window or door in the front of the house, you can overlook the valley and the Praia do Bordeira. You can sit there quietly watching the waves or the sun go down behind the cliffs of the beach below you. The enclosed back garden, with its flowering shrubs and fruit trees, is a perfect place to relax, read a book, catch up on your emails, take a nap, or cook up a bbq! The location in a Natural Park has left the area unspoilt by development and offers many hiking trails, including the famous Rota Vicentina, to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The area cries out to be explored and admired. From the rugged cliff tops, to the rustic forest interlaced with fully functioning farms, you will feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The enchanting inner Algarve boasts pretty castle towns and historic villages, cork tree– and flower-covered hillsides, and birdlife. If that isn't enough for you , you can always try your hand at surfing , wind-surfing, and body boarding, sports for which the waves coming in off the Atlantic Ocean are perfect for. But 'sun, surf and sand' is far from the end of the story; there's no shortage of other attractions – activities, beach bars (and discos), castles (both sand and real), diving, entertainment, fun… Carrapateira, itself, offers many cafes and restaurants many on the main plaza where you can relax and enjoy some refreshments, a meal, or some wonderful desserts! If you are looking for more excitement, Lagos is about 40 minutes away and there are many site-seeing, dining, night-life and sports opportunities in El Algarve. The Parque de Floresta Golf & Leisure Resort where one can hit a few golf balls, use the gym or utilise the sports facilities is only a 20-minute drive in Vale do Poco, Budens. For off-time at the house, there is a wood-burning stove, WIFI, a WIFI-friendly satellite TV, a DVD and music stereo.

Great location for walking and surfing
Charming and simple set up yet all utensils you need for selfcatering.
Lovely aspect. Nice table outside for view of sea and shetered little garden in back. Filomena the contact was very helpful during stay and answered all our queries. owner sent lots of good information prior to trip too.
Would love to return again
I am very pleased that you had an enjoyable stay at La Casa da Onda. We would love to have you again! Cheers!
Private yet conveniently located. Perfect base to explore the area.
My partner and I stayed here the end of February, and although the weather was not summer-like, we were able to enjoy the beach and even had one day where we could bathe in the ocean. On the other days, we explored the region, took walks on the beach and did the 10 km. hiking trail of the Circuit of the Pontal, watched the sunset on Amadoo Beach, ate lots of good food , and visited Lagos and Monchique, a quaint town in the upper forests with a beautiful drive leading you there. When we arrived back at camp, we could relax in the private back garden or watch a movie. The trip was very relaxing and I recommend it. We will certainly be returning. Javier and Julia
Charmante maison.
It as a pleasure having you at La Casa da Onda and I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and the back garden! It is a very relaxing and quiet place! Yes the Atlantic Ocean can be quite cold and the area can be windy... But there is always something to do and somewhere to go. Carrapateira is a quiet town and the surrounding area diverse and beautiful! I would love you to come back and visit us again!!
Thank you for your nice review. I am translating it into English for those who do not speak German. I am very happy that you enjoyed the house and the village of Carrrapateira. It is a beautiful area and the house provides beautiful views and privacy and comfort for an enjoyable vacation. I hope you will come visit us again!
"Cozy accommodation with a view of the distant sea
The house is located in a very quiet cul-de-sac in a row of three / four other houses with a sitting area facing forward with unobstructed view of the sea (air line about 2km) and a small cozy, protected garden to the rear. Depending on the wind / weather situation you can change between these two places very well.
The rental worked flawlessly and very uncomplicated. If on the spot something to regulate could be the manager always call, she responded immediately and very competently.
Carrapateira has a small town center, where there is everything you need (small food, vegetable and fish market, restaurants, cafes) and in its village place in the evening always a lot going on."
There is a wide variety of beaches--long sandy beaches or small coves embedded between cliffs and rocks. The two closest beaches, Praia do Bordeira and Praia do Amado, offer exhilarating experiences of surfing (Amado has major surf and body-boarding championships), wind-surfing, or kite surfing. However, the three kilometers of uninterrupted sand and the privacy and relaxation that Praia do Bordeira offers is what attracts me. There are surprisingly few people on the beach making it perfect for those who want to get away from it all. Other activities include hiking through the National Park of St. Vincent, where besides the views of the "spectacular and dramatic coastline--still unspoiled...there is a rich variety of landscape--from the mountains of the Serra to rolling foothills interspersed with dramatic limestone escarpments. With the changes in scenery come variations in the local flora and fauna, which combine to make walking here so very interesting." (Walking in The Algarve, by Julie Statham) Other activities include horseback riding, mountain biking, kayaking, cave exploring, and bird-watching. Carrapateira officially is part of El Algarve which offers plenty of tourist attractions, shopping, dining, night-life, golf, and other sports.
